Click to report rating    4/10/18   2     2     2     2     1   I attended this camp when it was considered a high class summer camp. As an alumni I can say that the camp changed hands between two different owners who are friends and ex campers. Tax advantages in play.. very little money has been spent to upgrade, very poor living space. Bunks are now very overcrowded, on my last visit. When I attended we were 6 campers in a bunk and two councilors.. ask how many campers per bunk. This is a money machine, targeting wealthy parents. Scholarships for needy family's is the latest ploy, with merit but not without a raised brow.. Beware..make sure you visit while the camp in session before you even consider this camp. This is not what it was in the 40s , 50s and 60s. 70's.. etc.. trading on long ago. Be warned. pinball machines and ping pong.. in the game room which used to be a room filled with the history of a great summer place. RID: 51763

2/13/14   5     4     4     5     5   My sons have been attending this camp for 4 summers. After months of evaluating other camps, both on our own and through a camp referral agency who knows the ins and outs of camps, both my wife and I selected this camp and later found Indian Acres to be the "real deal." The owners, directors, administrative staff and counselors know every camper. The community nurtures our boys and they come home feeling like stars. It is disappointing to know that anyone is allowed to rate camps and can, with unfounded criticisms; most likely campers who attend other camps and don't even attend the camp they rate. Shame on the company who operates this site for not having a filter for such trash. RID: 46758

2/11/14   5     5     5     5     5   This is a wonderful camp with amazing staff and endless activities for the campers to do. It is the best place you can send your child for the summer. RID: 46746

2/11/14   5     5     5     5     5   Although I only worked at IA for one summer, the community was so welcoming that only after a few weeks I felt as if I'd been coming there my whole life. It's not a surprise that a 10, 15, or 20+ year stint there as a camper and/or counselor is nothing unusual. The camp is divided into cabins of 5-6 campers each with 2 counselors in every cabin, which creates a really tightly knit "residential" community within each cabin. In fact, I'd say cabin life is more the highlight/focus of camp than sports, although athletics are definitely competitive in a great and super positive way. Additionally, there's great mentorship that goes on between older and younger campers. It's in an idyllic setting, tucked away beside the lazy Saco river and at the foot of the White Mountains. IA is a one-of-a-kind place with a strong sense of history an unique, quirky traditions that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Highly recommended for prospective campers and counselors alike.  2/11/14   5     5     5     5     5   IA has recently added a frisbee golf course, a tree house for our youngest campers, added an addition on to the gym and is constantly looking for new ways to improve camp. The staff is wonderfully thoughtful and caring. I've had the best summers of my life here. RID: 46744

4/19/13   1     1     1     1     1   very poor leadership. i was a camp leader and had many problems convincing leadership that the kids that were not sport all stars were still good kids. to be honest the sports were not that good to start with. the staff that have been there since they were young only cater to those that keep pouring dough into this camp. RID: 44306
8/16/12   5     5     5     5     4   I was disgusted by all the negative reviews on here. Hopefully it's clear to everyone that those are generic reviews that could apply to any camp, and we're written by people who don't understand our summer place. I was a camper for eight summers, so I will counter some of those negative reviews: Too much cursing - this one is simply false. Older kids are constantly dissuaded from cursing in front of the young ones and I have never heard anything worse than the f word at camp even as one of the oldest campers. Too competitive - this one's not true either. Although athletic competitions are an important part of camp life, sportsmanship is emphasized and OA abides by the the limits strictly. Unauthentic kids can thrive as well. For example, a kid who did not play a single sport competitively won the biggest award at camp last summer. IA is an incredible experience and it helped me grow as a person. Don't listen to the fake haters. RID: 42396

2/12/12   5     5     5     5     4   Some of my best friends are my cabinmates from camp. this will be my fifth summer at MY SUMMER PLACE. SOme of these comments are such outright lies I feel like strangling them. I am not athletic, dont care about winning, and couldnt be happier. The food is great, the staff is fun, and the owners are always around trying to get invilved with the kids! RID: 40320

6/26/11   5     5     5     5     5   My 10 year old son is at this camp right now and is loving it! He went for 4 weeks last summer and although he was ready to go home at that time, as we left he said "next summer I'll stay the whole summer!" He counted down the days till camp all spring. Last summer he came home fit and strong. He learned to play basketball and touch football, as well as having a chance to play "his" sport, soccer. He was never forced to do any sport or activity. The kids all have choices of what to do each period of each day. Every camper I've spoken with has said the food is great. The meals we ate during visiting weekend last summer were pretty good for a camp with lots of fresh fruit and variety. It is a lot of money, but the families that go there are all down to earth and the kids all seem to NICE, not at all spoiled seeming - totally worth it. I believe they have trials of a few days or a week so potential new campers can check it out. Management is VERY responsive to parents. Very well-run. RID: 36216

Click to report rating    8/21/10   1     1     1     1     1   I went to this camp for the first time last summer, and i had an absolutely awful experience. I thought i was going to have a great time because i am decently talented athletically but everyone ignored me and excluded me from teams and normal recreations. If i have one piece of advice for a perspective family, do not go to this camp. RID: 33809

Click to report rating    9/4/08   5     5     5     5     5   indian acres is the best camp on the planet.....wigwam is jealos of everything IA has. Wigwam Bob is pathetic. Wigwam cheats and Ia beats them fair in square every single time.... RID: 26342
9/1/08   5     5     5     5     5   Its funny because 99% of the criticism on this site is from kids who went to wigwam who are jealous of the facilities at IA (ie Indian Acres having a Gym) and of the fact that IA constantly beats them fairly. Its funny that they mention cheating in sports because one of their staff members played goalie for them in our 15 and under tournament. No other camp in the county have staff members who have been there for 20, 30, 50+ years like Indian Acres does, and for that reason IA has been able to maintain and grow traditions because of long time staff members and campers who have been there 8 plus years. The expensive price is completely justified if you spend just one day inside the totem polls. RID: 26271
Click to report rating    6/15/08   2     3     3     1     1   I went to Indian Acres for two summers (2006-2007), and was disappointed in the way sportsmanship was taught to the young campers. It was very acceptable to talk vulgar trash at other camp players and with a win at all cost mentality border line cheating was encouraged. The price of the camp is $2,500 more than that of other camps in the area but the facilities are constantly getting improved. RID: 23865
Click to report rating    4/11/08   1     1     1     1     1   this camp ****ing sucks i went here for 4 years cause my parents made me they only play the older kids like in a 10 year old tournament they only played 13 year olds do not come here RID: 22199
Click to report rating    9/28/07   5     5     5     5     5   I miss Indian Acres. I have spent 5 summers at this camp and can't wait until summer 2008. There is nothing like the Indian Acres gym during an intercamp basetball game. It Rocks! Best camp in the US! RID: 15657
Click to report rating    9/6/07   4     4     5     5     5   Indian Acres is a great camp! I've been going there for 6 summer and i realized that even though it's not for everyone if your kid comes here and understands the meaning to IA life then they'll never wanna leave again! IA isn't something that can be described it's something that has to be felt personally. From Basketball games against Wigwam to all camp river swims IA's all about spirte and pride which every camper leaves having alot more of for them-selfs and others. I'm not telling you to send you kid to IA because it's the best camp because every camp is "the best camp" but I'm saying that sending you kid to IA is the best thing that you could do for them because no matter what each and ever camper comes back a winner! 6 summers have gone by too quickly and if I could go back for another year as a camper I'd drop everything in the world to do it and any long-time returning camper would tell you the same exact thing! RID: 14983
Click to report rating    8/13/07   1     1     1     1     1   I hate all of you! Color war sucks and I wasn't able to play any sports because we all used kids that were 3 years older than the actual age group. Ridiculous! The waterfront was a joke and so was the assistant director, MOE. I don't want to talk about him but whatever. Just don't send your kids here its a terrible place. RID: 13913
Click to report rating    5/5/07   1     1     1     1     1   I felt like an outcast at this camp it was not what it says that is it. the food is horrible i didnt even eat half of the time.. not the bast camp not much fun... RID: 10513
Click to report rating    3/18/07   5     5     5     5     5   This is the world's greatest camp. If you go here it will change your life. So many of us are drawn back to Fryeburg summer after summer. I can't wait for the summer. This place is magical. RID: 8767
Click to report rating    3/4/07   5     5     5     5     5   IA is the best. The kids are awesome and so are the counselors. I can play all kinds of different sports, but no one is like killing you. Plus you get to see the girls sometimes but they're not always around. I wish camp started tomorrow. I just want to be at IA with my friends. RID: 8312
Click to report rating    3/4/07   5     5     5     5     5   IA is the best camp in the world! I loive all of my friends and my counselors. THe friends i have at Indian Acres i will have for the rest of my life. Totally awesome! I am countin the days until camp starts next summer. RID: 8296
Click to report rating    2/13/07   5     5     5     5     5   I agree Indian Acres is amazing. So much to do, great friends, and great staff. I love this place. I also like that I can help make my schedule. IA is awesome! RID: 7783
Click to report rating    2/12/07   5     5     5     5     5   Indian Acres is our Summer Place. I never want to leave at the end of the summer. So much to do do. Not only sports. Music, Art, mountain biking, too much to name. I have made so many life long friends. Great food as well! RID: 7758
Click to report rating    2/12/07   5     5     5     5     5   Indian Acres has so much to offer. My favorite trip was our trip to Canada. Also I play on the basketball team and baseball team. I was also in the co-ed play last summer (a good way to spend time with the girls). The counselors make the summer great. c u there. RID: 7757
Click to report rating    1/28/07   1     1     1     1     1   So many kids come to this camp just because their dads are sports maniacs and are all uptight. This place ruins peoples summers and it turns everyone into sport zombies. There is never free time and everything is so competitive. I went here for 3 years and now i've seen that i'll never go back. In 20 years I'll be wondering why my parents wasted the money on it and wanting to be able to take back my summers. RID: 7298
