I went to this camp 37 years ago! I was 10 and had just immigrated from the Soviet Union as a result of the Soviet Jewry movement. I didn’t speak good English and tthe kids gave me a tough time. I found it particularly disheartening when my own Jewish brethren preferred to refer to me as a “commie” vs treating me like a brother. But these were the early eighties and we were in the midst of the Cold War. What is ironic is much like the rest of California, in the past couple of decades the camp has taken such a progressive/liberal lean (over correcting and stifling natural tendencies of boys and girls), that I instead choose to send my kids to a Jewish camp in upstate NY. But, I still have fond memories of the experience, the increadible nature, overnight backpacking trips, day trips to Cherry Lake, the nice counselors who treated me well and the loving staff.

Long time parent of campers here. Have never seen a camp as focused on the well-being, nurturance, and care of the kids as Camp Tawonga! Highly recommend!

Camp Tawonga is my second home. There's nothing more to it. almost heaven :)I love everything, from the song sessions after meals to backpacking in Yosemite. I've been to other sleepaway camps, and I've never felt more at home anywhere else.

They've held camp fees at the same level for three years, making them affordable, safe, fun and relevant to Jewish children and teens today. Tawonga is the vanguard of modern Jewish camping. Check it out!

This is the best camp I have been to in my life. I am 15 and went for my first time last month, and already miss that amazing and place. The staff are incredible, friendly, funny, caring, and wonderful role models. Although it's a Jewish camp, you don't have to be to go - some of my friends there weren't. The values camp teaches are life values like don't judge, be yourself, enjoy and protect nature, and love and respect yourself and others. People there are loving and friendly and beautiful and hilarious, and I have made friends with people from all over California and Israel, friends I am sure I will keep my whole life. There are great teen programs there, and next year I plan to be a CIT, and hopefully when I'm in college, I'll have the priviledge to work there. This camp is life-changing, eye-opening, and tons and tons of fun. I highly reccomend this!

Great camp! I am now in collge and I was recently looking at photos of when I was a teenager and I saw photos of myself at the camp. The camp gacve me some of the best summers I have ever had in my life. Also the staff at the camp were very responsible and caring. I have learning differences and this camp worked wll for me. They are acpecting of all sorts of different people. They do a great job of giving us more of a Jewish education in a fun way. When I was there the pool was freezing but, that is all I can complain about. I loveed playing gaga or jumping into the river from tall rocks. At the time I went to the camp I thought the food tastsed bad but then I went to a two year collge and I am currently at Loyola Marymount University and the food at these places really sucks, so the food so pretty good in terms of cafeteria style food. The pog is great tasting. I The bsu rides were even fun. I love the camp fires and songs especially friends. I would give the camp 4.5 stars out of 5!!

I LOVE THIS CAMP!! the best time of my life! i ve gone 6 years in a row to session three (for three weeks) and i cant get enough! I love this place and everything about it. everyone is so nice the counselors are kewl and the food is the best ever. Go if you can it may be a jewish camp but you dont even hav to b jewish to go. There are so many activities there a high-element ropes course, a climbing wall, an olympic sized pool, a lake with paddle boats and canoes and kayaks and even a sweathouse. Campers get to choose what their bunk does during the three weeks!!! and you can hang out with whoever you want. you can b urself. guys can hug guys without being called gay. thats totally different from a school. and you can hang with your bunk and act like a total dork and u'll fit right in :)) This camp has its own culture! Come on and be a part of it :) as u can tell i love to talk about this camp so email be borntobug@gmail.com if u hav questions u want a real camper to answer!
