My kids have attended science camp since kindergarten. Next school year they will be in second and fifth grades. Each summer their knowledge and love of science grows which is why we commute in from Queens. They have made great friends who also love science and come back each year. We wish the program would add more grades and not end in 4th grade.

Can't believe I waited on line 14 hours for this. Not nearly enough movement for younger kids and it is really like school and not a camp at all. No swimming, no gym for rainy days or heat waves. Not enough interaction for younger ones either. 4 weeks of plants for K is not that exciting. If they could balance with more fun and less "school" it would be better. I imagine that is why there are openings in higher grades as people drop out. Marymount seems to offer much more.

This 1-month camp is very good for science instruction and activities with high quality counselors who really care. The main problem is that it no longer offers swimming. A whole month of camp for city kids with no swimming is a big problem. The substitute activities (yoga, circus games) do not offer sufficient physical activity levels for young children.

Camp offers excellent science programs for the K-5 set. Hard to get into for the lower grades (line up at 5 a.m. on sign-up day). Slightly easier for higher grades. Well-run camp is super-anal, but academically oriented kids love it. Some swimming, outdoor play, and art, but mostly bridge engineering, or human anatomy for tots, or egg hatching. Extremely well-trained staff. Set at Columbia University at Teachers College; lovely academic setting. Offers aftercare until 5:00 for extra. My kids love the camp and look forward to returning each year. Field trips are cool; visiting shows also great, like a live rescued wolf in conservation program on a leash.
