Is this camp still open. This camp looks like a Hoverville from the 1930's. Shanty town. This camp is stuck in the 1980's. If the economy was good they would sell the camp and build condos.

The best camp! If you want your child to attend a camp where every child is given personal attention by the most professional counselors, group leaders, and specialists, then Shibley Day Camp should be your camp of choice. Children develop life-long friendships and are given personalized instruction in sports, tailored to their individual needs and strengths/weaknesses.

This will be my 5th summer at shibley. I am going to be a CIT:) It truly is an amazing camp. The counselors are amazing, the group leaders are amazing, and the staff is so nice(: I've made so many friends here, and I have had fun each and every summer. I definitely recommend this camp. If you are considering going here, please do! There is so much to do. You get to pick which activities you want to do every day. The swim program is amazing, and the lifeguards teach you very well. They have the most amazing food, too! Everyone knows each other and if someone is new to the group, we always make them feel welcome and talk to them(: I went to sleepaway week last year, and had the time of my life! I really don't know what the other people were talking about who rated it bad, because it isnt!

Shibley gives your children such amazing personal attention - you cant ask for more! My daughter's best friends are from camp and in school, she is so painfully shy that she has difficulty making friends. Here, the counselor got that right away and paired her with girls that would get her out of her shell -where else can you get that?

My boys went to camp for the past three years and loved it. Although the camp facilities could be fixed up a bit more (given what you pay per summer), there is a lot to be said about the "camp" feeling of the facilities. The activities are varied and based on the children's age level. Their swim program is excellent. If you have concerns, you can always call the heads of the pool (i.e., Linda) and they have always been responsive. Billy keeps any and all promises. If anything concerns you, call the camp and they will take care of it right away. I have never had any problems with transportation and have always had great drivers and bus counselors. Regular counselors seem to vary from year to year, but overall we have had some wonderful counselors. Again, if you have any concerns, always call and your concerns will be addressed. Group leaders are excellent and have been there for years.

Shibley is the true definition of camp. It is rustic with a warm, caring staff. Both of my sons have been going there for years, and have always had a wonderful time. The staff is great!

As much as I am pained to say it, Shibley was a real disappointment. Shibley's #1 asset is Billy the assistant director who truly loves the camp, loves the kids, and is a true mensch. While there are certainly staff members there that care, there are more than a few staff members that are "calling it in" and just don't care. Some of the group leaders are there so that they can send their kids to camp for free. The facilities are old, tired, and just plain broken down. The camp bus driver forgot to pick up my son 3x and forgot to drop him off 2x (very upsetting for a five year old child). They pack the facilities with as many kids as they can -- my son was injured (dental injuries) twice in one week when he collided with another child in an outdoor maze/climbing gym overflowing with kids. While generally speaking my son came home reasonably happy every day (and his sports and swimming skills improved), I expect much more than what Shibley offers at $7,000 for the summer.

I sent my kids to a beautiful looking camp (Pierce). I thought my son would have a great summer but instead it was a nightmare. The group leader and counselors were unprofessional and incompetent. The owner is a wind-bag and a pant load. I transferred my son the next year to Shibley. He comes home the first day and says my Group Leader is the Golden boy. I thought who the hell is this fool. How wrong I was. He was amazing! My boy had the greatest summer of his life. He learned sport skills and sportsmanship. He had fun and made many new friends. He ran on the bus everyday and woke up early for camp. So they say, "you can't judge a book by its cover", and you can't judge a camp by its facilities. Shibley vs Pierce, not even close. My son and I love Shibley .

This is my 6/7th yr of going to this camp. i was in nursery at the beginning and now im in my secon to last yr of senior camp before i become a CIT. This camp is one of the best camps u will ever see in ur entire life. The staff is VERY nice. they talk to you and help you in sports. they pay attention to you and they make you feel comfortable. the bunks could be cleaner (broken floorboards, some bugs, ect.) but you only spend 10 mins a day in your bunk. the activities are very fun and there a variety of them. this camp is well worth your money. your child will have tons of fun and will want to come back for years to come. PARENTS: SEND YOUR CHILD TO SHIBLEY DAY CAMP. HE/SHE WILL HAVE THE TIME OF HIS/HER LIFE!!

STAFF, BUNKS, FOOD absaloutly sucks. bunks are modly and rotten. Counselors is a bunch of college students just going to get payed and do not give a crap about the campers. BUT the group leaders are amzing- always donng their jobs perfectly. HARVEY- director- amazing : ) Billy- well thats another story. CITS are the bombbb and they are so much nicer to the campers than the counselors. just payy them and let them go on trips god dammit

We are thrilled to be back at Shibley. Their methods of sports instruction are all inclusive. The swimming program and instructors are excellent, and, most importantly, the staff loves children. My son is 6 years old. It is truly a wonderful summer haven. My son comes home, happy, hungry and tired. The camp has given him a great sense of adventure and confidence. I would recommend it highly.

The staff is nice. The bunks are not that good to be in. They need to be newer. When it rains they get flooded and start to smell. I enjoy the activites, but they don't have many things for the older kids. The counselors in the Senior camp they just hang out, and not really care about the campers. It would be much better if we had teenage things to do. It can be really boring. The arcade games could be newer, and work.

I am now a counselor who has been going to this camp since I was four years old. Shibley teaches children to learn all sports that they may not have participated in before. Pierce mainly encourages children who have already developed skills in sports. This may intimidate some kids because they aren't as good as the pierce kids. Shibley is a great camp to send your child to learn the basics in sports and swimming and make great friends. The atmosphere is very relaxed and enjoyable. The staff there is like your family, as they are very personal and want to know your child. Next summer will be my 12th year there!! I can't wait to go back to camp as I look forward to it every year. The price is well worth it a great summer experience for your child!

In Shibley they don't give u the camp experience. It's more like going to a mini amusement park! It's all about the gocarts and the air bungee. Everyone also is mad at Pierce b/c they think Pierce coopied everything that they have. But reallly Shibley coopied everything from Pierce because Pierce is America's first camp. Shibley is all about fighting. Parents don't send ur kids there.

This camp is bad for children 11 and up. THe camp is at times too strict and some of the rules are rediculus for example, the camp is split up into 2 part. One is for little kids, one is for older kids. CITs that work in the little kid part of the camp can't go up to the other part of the camp while the CITs that work on the other part of the camp can go to both parts as they please. The camp has a very limited number of activities and is for older kids, a very boring time. Though,it is great for most little kids.

I recommend this camp to people who have young kids, but if you have a kid over 11 then its probably going to be too "babyish" for them. Besides that the food is okay, the counselors are nice and the activities are fun.

To expensive for what they offer. Camp is not about the aesthetics its about taking care of the children and making sure they are safe and happy.
