Click to report rating    12/31/17   2     5     5     5     4   I love this camp as I have attended CCSC for years and have worked there as well. Now let me tell you of the things that I have witnessed firsthand from both perspectives. First off let me say that this camp is one of the most interesting and unique camps around with lots to do for the kids and pretty awesome facilities. now the bad; the owners of the camp, the martin's, have chosen to brand Cub Creek as a science camp, though when you get a minute to talk to Lori Martin she will bring up her religion in a heart beat which can be alienating for those of us that aren't christian. The Martin's are also extremely conservative and don't respect their workers; the Martins seem to rake in millions each summer but pay their staff measly salaries and have crazy rules about dress code (no cut-offs, short shorts, etc.). It seems to me that this camp is less of a science camp and more of an outlet for the Martins to push their religious agenda. RID: 51556
Click to report rating    11/2/16   5     5     5     5     5   i have been going to this camp with my sister for 4 years and we have met so many people and have had so much fun and we can't wait to go back. the dangerous animals are not able to be interacted with, so no attacks are allowed. the nurse is welcoming and so are the staff. i recommend CCSC for any animal loving boy or girl.  7/4/15   5     5     5     5     5   Love this place! The staff are friendly, educated, and well-trained. The animals are very diverse and beautiful. The activities are a blast, as well as educational. And the facilities are modern and clean. But the best part about it is the culture. After the first campfire you feel like you're part of a unique family. Cub Creek Science Camp is #1. RID: 48809

12/21/14   2     5     5     4     4   I went to this camp for four years. I first went when I was 11 and it was great! It became my summer routine that I cherished every year. The pottery and animal programs were my favorite. The facilities were good, especially for a camp. Despite the amazing activities and facilities, the staffing got way too political. Unfortunately this camp has a major problem with nepotism. My last year I had this awful counselor who is related to the director. She was very immature, constantly using sarcasm, complaining about her campers, glaring at us, etc. I felt really angry most of the time and hurt. In addition, the director hired people who weren't cut for the job but whom she obviously liked better and demoted great people whom I guess she disliked. Overall, it's a fun camp that is very awesome for young kids, but parents need to be aware that counselors can become a problem. I would recommend calling about them before drop off. Too much money to waste on bad counselors that ruin the fun. RID: 48229

12/12/14   5     4     4     4     4   My daughter attended Cub Creek in the summer of 2014 and loved it. The cabins and camp facilities are very nice for a summer camp. It is very organized, and drop off and pick up was very easy and quick. The only negative I can think of is that the animal habitats are unfortunately not as nice or as large as I would have hoped for (more like a bunch of cages versus a true habitat). My daughter is already signed up to go back in 2015. RID: 48204

2/9/14   1     1     1     1     1   Before attending this camp ask the owners to disclose information about the numerous animal attacks. Two children have been attacked by sloths, one spent a week in the intensive care unit. Most of the attacks are not reported because the owner insists that they are "scratches" and not "bites". Ask to see the scar from a "scratch" on the owner's hand and decide for yourself. Here is a link for more information in one animal attack that did make the papers: http://www.bornfreeusa.org/database/e... RID: 46724

1/19/13   4     5     4     4     4   My kids attended Cub Creek last summer for a week. At the time they were 10 and 8 and they absolutely loved it! They did email, but only had great things to say about how much fun they were having. As a parent, it's nice to be able to go online and see pictures of your kids and how much fun they are having. The camp is a bit pricey, but well worth the money. Both kids are excited to go back again this summer. RID: 43431

8/15/12   5     5     5     5     5   Excellent camp. My son went for the first time this year. Flew him 1/2 way across the country just to go to this camp. We were scared to death but the camp staff treated him like he was one of their own right from day one. I really can't say enough about this program. Also, all of the campers are so nice and treat each other so well. No form of bullying exists as it is not tolerated. Great group of diversified children. Great experience for children of all ages!  3/29/12   5     5     5     5     5   As a staff member here in the summer of 2011 I can honestly say this is an awesome and unique camp. I wish I had known about it when I was younger. Kids here get to have experiences with animals that is rare anywhere else as well as enjoy the outdoors and make new friends. As a staff member I enjoyed working with the children and letting them explore and learn different things such as how to care for an macaw and where the hidden treasure chest was in the treasure hunt. Some of the newer things like the zipline are awesome! I also enjoyed how the staff members were structured with 4 to a cabin we were able to give equal attention to the children to ensure they were enjoying their time at camp and helped with any classes they wanted to get into. I would/ and do suggest anyone who has a child that loves the outdoors, science or animals to look into attending Cub Creek Science camp it will be an experience they will not forget RID: 40660

12/15/11   5     5     5     5     5   To the person who said that the staff are not having fun, that is false. This past summer was my first summer at cub creek and it was one of the best experiences of my life. So great that I am coming back again for summer of 2012. The staff is great, made up of a very diverse group of people, that come together to work very well. The facilities are great. Air conditioned cabins, with fully functioning bathrooms and shower rooms in each. The animal area is also great. It allows the kids to get to know the animals very well, and learn so much about all of them. The activities are great, kids could go to camp for 6 weeks and never have a day that is exactly like the other. The food is very kid friendly. Overall, this is a great experience, and I would HIGHLY recommend sending your kids here. RID: 37510

12/3/11   5     5     5     5     5   These folks have made a monumental effort to create a uniquely educational environment where children and adults alike can become familiar with the habits and needs of a wide variety of endangered, exotic animals. RID: 37416

12/3/11   4     5     5     4     5   My 10 year old son spent two weeks, 11 hours from home, at this camp for the first time last summer. Typically one to be homesick, he said he didn't have time to be homesick, and we only heard from him twice because he was "too busy" to write, he said. He can't wait to go back. I loved that they posted pictures every day, and when we picked him up, it was obvious that he had spent a lot of time in the various areas of camp, and with all the different animals. There wasn't anything that stuck out to me as a problem or concern - my son had no complaints. My biggest grip was not related to the camp - it was SO HOT when we were there!! RID: 37415

12/3/11   3     5     4     3     3   The quality of the camp each year depends on who Lori chooses to be her program director that year. Lori is not a people person; she is rude to the staff and doesn't appreciate the work that they do. Therefore she hires someone else to deal with people and staff so she doesn't have to. Some years this works, some years it doesn't. The facilities are awesome and it's really cool to have so much "hands-on" experience with the animals. The food leaves something to be desired. I walked down the frozen food section at Wal-mart and saw the cub creek menu (pizza, poptarts, macaroni, etc.) I worked here the summers of 2006 and 2007 and stay in contact with people who are involved with the camp.  11/29/11   5     5     5     5     5   I have had the pleasure of working at Cub Creek Science Camp the past two seasons and i can say honestly that it was the best experience of my life. Lori is a passionate owner who spares no expense in bringing the campers the experience of a lifetime. the food is great, the staff is amazing, and the activities are fun and rewarding. so, if you want to give your child the best summer they have ever had, send them to Cub Creek!!!! you won't regret it!!! RID: 37383
Click to report rating    10/20/11   1     4     1     1     1   The staff their aren't having fun and just want the summer to end. You don't get as much of the hands on experience as you would think with the animals. It always feels like your being watched. When I was their laurie was very rude and only gave attention to her monkey and two daughters. She thought she was better than everyone else. Not to mention the other kids their are freaks!! RID: 37107
Click to report rating    6/11/11   5     4     5     5     5   This camp is awesome for people interested in science. It allows children to have one on one with exotic animals and gain the knowledge about that animal. A class is offered where they can adopt any animal on camp and take care of it for as long as they are here. RID: 36084

Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing! The staff is helpful and kind, the activities are fun, and everything there peaks my interest!! I have gone for two years (for 6 weeks overall) and have loved both times. I am definitely coming back next year. The animals are very different, something you can't experience anywhere else. What other camp can say they give children the opportunity to take care of monkeys, sloths, snakes, emus, and much more? RID: 34708

Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I have been to Cub Creek for seven years, and I have yet to experience a bad summer at all. The counselors are so nice and they really try to make your camp memories fun and exciting. All of the animals at Cub Creek are so unique and it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to even see some of them, let alone pet them or feed them. Overall this camp floods my brain with so many amazing memories that I will hold onto for the rest of my life! RID: 34706
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I have attended Cub Creek Science Camp for five years. I have always been passionate about animals and science. I had high expectations about this camp and I was not disappointed. Although I was nervous about attending an overnight camp, I quickly made friends and have continued to make new friends each year. The classes, courses, and camp activities are engaging, educational, and fun. The animals as Cub Creek are always interesting and friendly. At Cub Creek, you are able to interact with most of the animals hands on and this is perfect for animal lovers! Each year, the staff at Cub Creek is well chosen. The staff is always kind, caring, and well trained. Each camper is given the perfect amount of personal attention as the camp has a great staff to camper ratio. The facilities are clean and very comfortable. Overall, it is a great camp experience for those interested in science, especially animals. I am registered for this coming summer and I am counting down the days until I arrive! RID: 34705
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   This camp has the best facilities I have seen in any camp in the area (Missouri). I am so impressed by the owners' love for children, learning, science and especially; ANIMALS. The owners are the kindest, generous, most AMAZING people you could ask for. Their rules are strict because they are responsible for such a large number of kids. If you want your children to be safe, have fun AND learn a LOT, send them here, you won't be disappointed!! RID: 34703
Click to report rating    1/5/11   4     5     5     5     5   I have a unique view of this camp as I have been both a camper and a staff member. The owner of the camp is one of the most well-meaning people I know. Since she first founded Cub Creek, she has kept immense enthusiasm for the camp and truly cares about the well being of the campers and staff. The staff aren’t perfect, partially because they change from year to year (no summer camp will have perfect staff). But the staff are trained, and trained well, to handle their jobs. Every summer kids go to Cub Creek for a unique, amazing summer experience, and every year they find something new and marvelous, and get to have new experiences in a clean, well-managed facility with competent and caring staff to guide them. RID: 34702

Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I was part of the staff this past summer. Lori and Scott, the camp owners, care a lot about this camp and all of their animals and were constantly asking staff for suggestions on how they could make the camp even better. The cabins and other buildings on site were all air conditioned and new, which made it very comfortable to live in. The campers were constantly busy every day with classes and activities which they chose daily to fit their personal preferences. I was never told by one of my campers that they were bored. With at least 3 staff in every cabin, campers always were given the personal attention that they required. Cub Creek is totally worth the price. The campers got many opportunities with exotic animals that they may never get to experience again. This camp also offers a camp experience that the children will never forget. I can not wait to return to the camp's staff for summer 2011! RID: 34696
Click to report rating    1/5/11   3     4     2     2     3   I went to the camp 2 summers in a row, the first summer I had a lot of fun! but when I went baack, it was not as much fun, they changed a lot of stuff, and I noticed that I was waiting a LOT more than I had last year, it seemed like every time I went to go somewhere I had to wait. I was a bit dissapointed that I didnt get to interact or ever talk to the other cabins. The food was okay and the facilities were good. The counslors were always looking forward to their break time. The activites sounded like a lot of fun but you could only have 10-12 people in a group so I never got to do any of the fun activities. It seemed like there was too much competition between the cabins. We were always trying to beat the other cabins. The counsolers also forced you to sing the camp songs, personally I dont like singing or cheering, and did not appreciate them forcing me to do that. At first I liked the camp, but when I camp back I didnt like what it had turn into. I was there 2007 and 2008. RID: 34694
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     4   My 8 year old daughter had a wonderful experience at camp. I was hesitant to send her to camp for two weeks (we are 3 hours from camp)at her age, but she loved it and is already signed up for this summer! She is an animal lover and was thrilled with all of the animals there and the interaction she had with them. I found the staff to be kind and helpful. A great experience overall! RID: 34692
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I worked at this camp and thought it very nice. It was certainly not like any camp I ever attended. Air conditioned cabins and top notch facilities. Animals galore. If you want your children to grow and learn and they are into animals and science this is the place to come. Owners take pride in their facility and in your kids having a safe and good time. I worked as a fulltime nurse at the facility. RID: 34691
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I work at cub creek science camp for a year and a half as the camps archery instructor, and lifeguard, also took care of all the animals in the off season, although I later resigned halfway through my second summer due to other oppertunitys, I believe that this is the most amazing camp I have ever seen run, the staff is highly trained for two straight weeks, the first week we live life through a campers eyes doing everything campers would, the swcond is all about typical camp procedures and the course work. I think that every child that enjoys animals and/or science should at least tryout a summer at cub creek. Thankyou cub creek for everything and I hope that this rating will hellp you make up your minds. RID: 34690

Click to report rating    6/7/10   5     5     4     5     4   Cub Creek was an awesome experiance. Being the oldest camper there and my first time I was surprised at how much I loved it. I was a little bummed out not having my cell phone but I quickly got over it. I made friedns fast, the councilors were beyond awesome, and the food was great. I was also disappoited that girls and boys were seperated so often and we hardly had time to talk. Most of the senior activities such as dream catchers were easy but most of the activies you get to choose from dealt with a hands on experiance with animals. If you love animals then this camp is meant for you. From my one week experiance I got to touch/hold and learn about 100 animals. I even witnessed a Alpaca give birth, which was an amazing experiance, the campeers even got to name the newborn. Most of the animals are harmless and as long as you respect their privacy they will stay that way. Cub Creek is a great get away for both Junior and Senior boys and girls, even though the cost is a bit high. RID: 32938

Click to report rating    7/19/09   1     1     1     1     1   After working at this camp, I have an inside opinion. The owner does not care about the children, the staff are under paid, the food is horrible. Not to mention the animals bite, scratch, and deffinatly will harm children. The owner has no interest int he camp, just the money she can make from it. Parent need to be more aware. Staff do what they can but when the are consistently YELLED at by the owner, and she forces the staff to keep the boys and girls separate. This camp is not the place to send your child for a fun summer, or healthy summer. Take it from the employees! We would never go and are never coming back! RID: 30469
Click to report rating    7/13/09   5     5     5     5     4   This camp is amazing. Unfortunately the only review I could find on this camp was one that was not favorable. Luckily through e-mails with the camp director I decided to send my daughter regardless of the previous review. I 100% disagree with the negative feedback. I have a 12 year old daughter who spent two weeks at this camp and loved every second of it. She had continuous interaction with the animals and had very little downtime. There was such a large variety of courses and classes for each camper to choose from that it would be nearly impossible to not find something enjoyable to do. Although the price is a bit high, the experience gained through this camp is priceless. I received e-mails from my daughter on a daily basis and she received my e-mails each day as well. I would highly recommend Bear River Ranch to any parent with a child who loves animals or just wants to have a good time at summer camp! The staff and directors were all very kind. Best camp I've seen yet! RID: 30392

Click to report rating    6/18/06   4     5     1     4     3   I have mixed feelings about this camp. The employees were good to my child, but most were unhappy, and the kids knew. My child said the owner, who lived there, was very meam and grumpy. He set a bad mood and made the employees hate their jobs. The facility was top notch, new buildings with air conditioning. But my childs experience was lacking. Boys and girls can't fraternize. Limited free time, with nothing to do in that time. ***If you send your child, keep it to one week. Younger children have a better time (11 and younger). Not stimulating enough for older kids. Time with animals is very limited, with limited contact. They offer daily e-mails, but they hardly went through, which frustrated my child. At times my child felt trapped there with no contact from me. They are able to read all e-mails. I gave a 4 on personal attention...but that may be a bad thing. Good for young children, bad for the older kids. I am not sure we will be back. RID: 958
