I have been going to this camp since what was supposed to be 2020 but ended up being 2021. when camp got canceled in 2020, I was very sad(even though I had never been before).the minute I got home in 2021, ten year old me told my parents I wanted to go to 5 week the next year. after going in 2022 to main camp, I made friends in my cabin that I am still friends with and probably will be for a long time and request to be with them every year. the trips that they do at this camp are SO FUN! i went on a 4 day, 3 night trip and I loved it. also activities that are special activities were really fun. i look forward to tajar day, various evening activities, and camp Christmas(which is supposedly just a dream) the minute I get to camp. i love this camp so much I wish I could keep going forever

I loved my experience at Green Cove. I went for 10 years until I aged out and never came home with a single regret. The staff are amazing and truly become people you can rely on as well at all times and as I got older many also became my friends. I did many of the activities and have become such a well rounded person because of it. Green Cove provided me with some of my best friends and best memories and I wish I could go back again!

The staff is caring, nurturing and fun. Thank you Bell family for all that you do for young girls (and boys at camp Mondamin)!

Last summer was my daughter's first time at sleep away camp. Her first letter home was a request to please sign her up for next year. She absolutely loved it. I appreciated all the personal support I received from Green Cove. It was my first time to send my daughter away I was a nervous mom. They couldn't have made it easier on me! Great feedback during her stay and my daughter had the time of her life! We will be a Green Cove family for many years to come. If you are considering Green Cove, I definitely recommend it. It's a very special place.

Green Cove has been life-changing for our daughter. The confidence that she has gained through the experiences she has at camp allow her to approach her school and her activities outside camp in a more pro-active and positive way. Thank you to the Bell Family for your years of raising confident young women!

My 12 year old Natalie had the time of her life at Camp Greencove this summer. She developed existing outdoor skills of horse riding, climbing, tennis and swimming. She loved her new experiences of sailing and overnight hiking and camping. She made long lasting friendships with girls from all over the US and came home, happy, confident and self assured having had so much fun and freedom in a safe environment. I highly recommend Camp Greencove as a wonderful experience to boost confidence, learn new skills and to blossom.

What an amazing place. The activities, such as whitewater canoeing and kayaking, sailing, climbing, and horseback riding, are fantastic. The counselors clearly are well-trained and excellent teachers. But the most important part is their emphasis on helping campers grow as young girls and women. My 11 year old daughter has spent two summers there and her transformation has been amazing. She returned with so much more confidence and independence. And I've never heard her so excited - all she talks about is what she will do next year. I could not recommend Green Cove more enthusiastically.

My sisters were campers/counselors at Green Cove in the 80's, and it is truly a special place. It's a safe environment in which to grow personally, socially and in outdoor skills. The staff is professional, supportive, and has the expertise to teach kids how to thrive in outdoor pursuits, even if they have zero skill base to start. The co-eds with Mondamin (the brother camp) are well supervised and a safe venue to learn about how to deal with 'boys' in a respectful and honest way. Cliques and bullying are not tolerated, and the camp and activities are non-competitive; the focus is trying to improve your skills. Kids also have the freedom to focus on those activities that most interest them, which leads to invitations/qualifications to go on the many multi-day out-of-camp trips kayaking/canoeing white water rivers, backpacking/camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and sailing. We now send our kids to Green Cove, which is the best endorsement.

My kids have gone to Mondamin and Green Cove for the past 4 years. It is their "happy place" and a place that they grow each year. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the scenery and weather can't be beat. The staff, from the Bell Family to the individual counselors are experienced, caring and energetic. The counselors are experts in their areas from kayaking to mountain biking to rock climbing and more. Best of all, the non-competitive nature of the camp brings out the best in each camper. Campers set their own goals and counselors guide, support, encourage and teach. This set up leaves the group cheering for each other and gives kids unbelievable independence and confidence.

Our daughter has been a camper at GC for seven summers. She absolutely loves it and considers it her second home! Each summer she reconnects with old friends & meets new friends. She enjoys getting right back into areas of interest such as kayaking, sailing, swimming, mountaineering & horse back riding. The girls are encouraged to pursue whichever activities peak their interest, which may stay the same or change year to year. As parents, we enjoy peace of mind knowing the counselors have the kids best interest at heart. They are highly skilled, excellent at teaching the girls the skills needed for that particular activity & always teach safety first. We have seen our daughter reap the benefits of learning new skills in an encouraging & supportive environment & feeling great about that. Gives her a big boost of confidence! The excellent values, positive attitude & confidence instilled at camp carries through the year at home, school & extracurricular activities. Highly recommend GC!

My daughter has been attending Camp Green Cove for the past 3 years and has signed up again for 2016. She enjoys camp so much and talks about it constantly year round. She loves the independence it provides her and also all of the challenges. She comes back a more mature person every year. She has really bonded with many other girls and counselors each year. The experiences she has had at Camp will be memories that will last her a lifetime.

Our daughter has been a "Green Cove Girl" for the past 5 years, our son was at the "brother camp", Mondamin, from age 9 through being a counselor in college. Both camps are owned by the same wonderful family, The Bells. The staff is fantastic, and we love that there are campers and staff from not only the United States, but other countries- broadening the children's horizons, not to mention the friendships formed through the years. It is a special place for children to spend a wonderful summer full of great experiences, fun, and make memories for a life time.

I was a camper at Green Cove for nine summers and a counselor for an additional five. Green Cove helped me try activities outside my comfort zone, make lasting friendships, and gain strong leadership skills. I entered camp as a shy nine year old and left as a strong woman who was leading girls down rivers and helping them develop their strength and confidence. Green Cove is the perfect environment for both the girl who needs the support of adults to try new things and for the the adventurous girl who is ready to push her limits. I could not recommend it more!

Green Cove is an amazing place! My daughter just finished her 2nd summer and cannot wait to go back again next year. She is once again, counting down the days until she returns to GC. The friendships she has made are authentic and she keeps in touch with many of her camp friends all year long - GC encourages the the campers to develop their own goals and they give them the path to reach them. My daughter has been exposed to so many new things and she has been surprised by what she can accomplish in five weeks. The counselors are like big sisters - all have been wonderful role models. I cannot say enough great things about Green Cove

As a former counselor at Green Cove, I can say that this is a magical place to send your daughter! If you want your daughter to become independent and confident, and to have the ability to set goals and the freedom to achieve those goals, send her to Camp Green Cove. It has a philosophy that is non-competitive, which allows the girls to explore their passions, as they realize what those passions are. They can then thrive and grow to be strong young ladies, all the while building friendships that will last a lifetime! And, on top of that, they get to experience top notch programs in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina! Known for its high quality equestrian program, as well as its canoeing and hiking programs, you can't go wrong at Green Cove.

Our daughter has attending GC for 3 years, the first 2 years at 3 week camp and the summer of 2016 at 5 week camp. She absolutely loves the experience! We like that the camp focuses on skills building - our daughter chose horseback riding and rowing. Sailing, climbing, canoeing, mountain biking and other activities are also available fro the girls to choose. Once skill levels are achieved the girls head out on 3 or 6 night adventures related to the skills they are working to master. My daughter went on a 6 night horseback riding trip that she absolutely loved. Certainly a unique experience for a camp. As a result we've seen her confidence and self esteem grow by leaps and bounds each summer. This confidence in carried through to her school and sports activities at home. She has made friends from all over the country, all of whom keep in touch throughout the year. BONUS: no electronics allowed at camp. Our daughter even commented that she liked being away from her phone.

Camp Green Cove imparts outdoor skills to last a lifetime. The staff are enthusiastic and professional and are hired for their expertise in specific activities. They have it all - competitive sailing, an expert paddling program (whitewater canoes & kayaks), mountain biking, climbing, tennis, even a year-round horse program (no rented, skittish horses here). Campers work to achieve competence in order to earn off-camp trips; they camp out climbing real rocks, paddling a variety of rivers, sailing mtn lakes, mountain-biking & hiking all over. Throughout all of this, campers learn how to do it all on their own and gain confidence in their ability to plan, setup, & enjoy! They also play hard with all the usual camp fun, but with a HUGE zipline out of the trees above the cabins into the lake way below. To top it all off, the food is the bomb! The chefs offer healthy whole foods w/ a lot of variety. We've attended family camp for 6 yrs and even mom learned to roll a kayak!

Last summer was our first time to send both daughter's to Green Cove and we're absolutely sold on the camp. From a parent's perspective, going thru the registration process was relatively easy & intuitive, the interaction with the staff was superb, and we received feedback almost instantly. Overall, it was the smoothest process I've gone thru in several other camps our girls have attended in the past. The counselors provided us weekly insight to how our girls were doing and it was by far the most comprehensive product about what they were doing and how they were doing I've ever received, this is the standard in my book. Lastly, both my girls came home with really unique experiences and great friends from around the U.S. and internationally...I consider this camp as a definite and committed to sending our girls next summer on the day we picked them up. I'm a big fan and thank Green Cove for the dedication to developing and teaching our nations future.

My daughter attended Green Cove for the first time last summer. She had the most wonderful, incredible time. I didn't grow up going to summer camp, so she's not a legacy and went simply because it was recommended by a family friend. She knew several girls at the camp, but would have been just as great knowing no one. She was exposed to things she would never get to experience at home and she was able to break out of her shell a bit, be different than her school "persona". She came home more confident and more outgoing and cannot WAIT to go back next summer. I rated the monetary value a bit less because to me, the price is outrageous, but it is very comparable to every other summer camp of the same level.

What makes Green Cove unique is that as a camper you can choose what you want to do every day. I know for years I road horses six times a week at camp, and loved it. But a couple years ago I realized that I really wanted to start paddling(canoeing/kayaking). I knew that to be able to paddle down rivers I would have to put in the time and commitment to reach my goals, and it took me three to four summers to finally reach the top levels. Green cove doesn't force girls to do any activity, and because of that girls are free to find what they really love to do. Without green cove I would never have experienced the outdoors like I have been able to, and I would never have met the coolest girls I know. Plus, the counselors are awesome role models. I have gone to the five week session for 5 years and would never trade a second for my camp experience for anything else.

I appreciate the opportunity to "rate" Camp Green Cove but encourage prospective parents and campers to talk to former campers and their families before making this important decision. This rating system is incredibly limited. That said, my daughter has gone to Green Cove for 5 summers and is counting the days until season 6 arrives. I spent 10 summers at GC as a camper and counselor and hoped my daughter would appreciate it as much as I did. There is no doubt that she does. The staff is excellent and the leadership is steady and thoughtful. Girls are empowered here. I would highly recommend taking close look at Green Cove if your daughter is looking for a fun, adventurous, growth experience. They will make lifelong friends and memories here!

I have gone to Green Cove for six years: three at June Camp (three weeks) and three at Main Camp (five weeks). I love it so much and will be very sad once I am too old to come. I have learned many new skills at camp, formed lasting friendships, and gained confidence and self-esteem. The counselors and staff never fail to make everything fun and exciting and are always there to help and encourage. The campers I have met there are also kind, welcoming, and just plain awesome. I highly recommend Green Cove if you love to be outdoors, enjoy meeting new people, and are ready for an adventure like none other!

My daughter has attended Green Cove for the past 5 years, the last 2 for Main Camp, and can't wait to go back (her brothers attend the boys' camp Mondamin). She leaves every summer with an increased sense of independence and sef-confidence as well as with close friends that she keeps in touch with all year. The counselors are supportive and encourage her to try a variety of activities, and I LOVE the fact that the camp is free of electronics!!! They unplug and spend their time enjoying the absolutely beautiful surroundings. It is well worth every penny to see how happy she is when I pick her up!

I loved being a Green Cove camper so much that I couldn't wait to be a counselor during my college summers, and now I'm delighted to be a Green Cove (and Mondamin) mom. My 11 year old has had two great summers at June Camp and is lobbying hard for Main Camp next year. She says her favorite parts of camp have been the new friends she has made and her counselors. I love that she has had the opportunity to be exposed to so many outdoor activities in a safe but challenging environment, and that she has been encouraged to set high goals and work hard towards them. Every few days we received news of an accomishment she was proud of- swimming the mile, conquering her fear of mountain biking, going on a climbing overnight. She can't wait to go back.

My family has gone to Greencove and Mondamin for 3 generations. The skills that I learned as a camper have stayed with me throughout my life. There have been many a challenging situation that I have faced in my adult life where I thought to myself, "if you could get down that river in a Grumman canoe at age 12, then I know I can do this!" My daughters have been campers at Greencove for years, as well. They always come home from camp with a strong sense of accomplishment and a wealth of new friends. Their sense of adventure has been fostered at camp. They usually spend half of camp on overnight rock climbing or mountain biking trips. Camp Greencove allows them a positive place to recharge from the long school year. It also provides a positive atmosphere to escape from the unproductive boredom of summer at home. If your child loves adventure and outdoor challenge, she will learn the necessary skills to grow as an adventurer and gain confidence that will stay with her for a lifetime.

I wouldn't think of sending my girls anywhere else. They cannot wait to return each year! A healthy, happy, balanced environment where they learn new skills and gain independence... What more could a parent ask for? The camp environment is rustic (not a "country club") and the program is traditional. Skills are taught in a progressive manner so that the girls are safe, secure and confident in their abilities. Having attended the mother-daughter hike, I can personally attest to the high level of attention and detail the counselors pay to the proper training and preparedness of the campers. A simply wonderful camp experience.

Green Cove has been an outstanding and life-altering experience for numerous members of my family and now, both of my sons are enjoying the benefits at the brother camp, Mondamin. Our family has been associated with these camps since my father (now 81) was a camper and later a counselor. What is the secret? The camp values are solid and staff works hard to nurture and develop in each child a sense of accomplishment, regardless of athletic ability or inclination. For me personally, the camp experience at Green Cove was one of the top three or four most important things in my life. I would be happy to talk to anyone about our experiences. As a camper, Green Cove is the best summer camp a child could ever ask for. If you enjoy being outdoors, making new friends, and being away from home life, this camp gives you this and more. The girls have changed my life because they teach me self confidence and give me strength as a friend. This camp strives to make sure every camper is happy and will not stop until they are. Being away from home may feel scary at first, but once you're at Green Cove, that fear all goes away because you are sorrounded by people that care about you, who don't care that you're different or where you come from, and who make you feel at home. The activities are also fit for every skill level so campers don't feel that they are not as good as someone else. Being a non competitive camp, Green cove makes sure girls are challenging themselves independently and are doing what they love. This is such a great place to be and located in such an amazing environment. I hope you decide to attend this summer!

As a child I went to Greencove for 7 summers. Going to Green Cove had a major positive impact on my life and I am still in touch with many of the friends I made there. My daughter will be returning for her second summer this year. My husband and I have noticed a difference in her when she comes home from camp including increased independence and confidence.

Our daughter attended this summer for the first time. Loved it, loved it, loved it. She can't wait to go back next year. Three weeks away at overnight camp with its independent format did wonders for her self confidence. Nancy Bell, the director, and her staff did an excellent job. Our daughter is an advanced equestrian for her age (fox hunting since age 7, showing since age 3) and had a great experience with the horses. One of the riding instructors turned out to be the daughter of a neighbor and a fellow fox hunter. Been around horses all her life. I have no doubt the horses were well cared for and the barn well run. My wife checked out the riding program during our camp tour last summer (35+ years riding experience, showing, eventing, college equestrian team, colors with multiple fox hunts). She had only good things to say about the program. It is a very well run camp program and I highly recommend it.

Camp Green Cove is my favorite place in the world. Literally. I have gone to camp there for three years, and I never cease to be impressed with the quality of counselors and the kind, outgoing campers. Campers can do whatever they want to in camp from rock climbing to horseback riding to crafts and can sign up for numerous multi day trips in almost all activities. I highly recommend this camp for any out doorsy person.

This will be my 6th year at Green Cove. It is my favorite thing in the whole world! The activities are great (not sure if the person talking about the equestrian aspect being bad went to the same camp. The horses are well taken care of. You can ask my horse crazy cousin.)! It's great not having a schedule. (Counselors make sure kids are doing activities) We don't have to choose activities ahead of time. We get to do the activities we want to do! Also its noncompetitve so you dont have to worry about competition or who is better at what. You are only competing with yourself. This is a camp that focuses on learning new skills. You don't just mess around all day. You actually learn something worthwhile. You get to paddle rivers, climb mountains, bike trails, ride horses, etc. There are a variety of fun trips that these activities offer to teach you even more about it. My favorite part is you make so many great friends. Some of my best friends in the whole world I met at Green Cove!

I have always found that the barn and equestrian program to be the tops- from the time I was there in the 70s to current years (my daughter attends- it is her 6th summer. I am also confused by the comment about female and male counselors taking trips out together- in all my years 8 & my child's- I can only think of one trip and that was a higher level paddling 3 day trip. Hands down the best camp philosophy for letting your child grow and develop life skills- wouldn't trade any of that time for me or my child- it is truly life changing and a special place w. long lasting friendships- mine now 30+ years later camp friends still my closest.

Three of my daughters have been to green cove, and they just keep asking to come back! It's an amazing camp experience for you daughter. As I'm very confused about the equestrian review.. But, I believe that all the activities build skill and character. I love this camp!

This year will be my second year at Green Cove! They have amazing staff and astonishing activities! I was so confused by the bad review on the riding program. Everyone there is understanding, welcoming and caring. If your an "outdoorsy", adventure-loving, girl you should definitely consider this amazing camp!

My two independent, adventuress daughters love green cove, and can't wait to go back! What a great opportunity for them to experience new activities, controlled risk-taking, and self-driven accomplishments. There is a camp for every kid, and this is not for everyone, but if your daughter is outdoorsy, and wants a chance to make her own way in a very safe environment, this is a wonderful camp. The camp feels very throw-back or retro in the best of ways, but they have new, high end equipment such as boats and bikes for the girls, and great instruction and staff.

This was a terrible summer camp. My daughter went here and was not given the time from her counselors because the owner of the camp allowed female and male counselors out on trips together and they ignored the children.

this camp would be a very good camp to send children to who feel like they need to be independant. next year will be my third year. plus, if they are independant, the camp has quite small cabins, from 5 to 7 girls. it is non competative, although there is camp olympics. higly reccomendend!!!!:)

I grew up going to Green Cove and loved it so much I went back as a counselor. Now my daughter goes - she loves it so much she starts counting the days until she can return the day she leaves. Food is excellent; campers are welcoming; counselors are outstanding. Best part is no required activities or schedules beyond meals, rest and bedtimes. Instead campers select their own activities allowing them to discover and delve into activities they love. I'm surprised by the negative review of the riding program - I was a riding counselor. GC owns its horses so they know them and they are well treated. Nancy, who runs the whole camp, is a rider and still teaches lessons. Kids generally can take one riding lesson a day - no extra charge. The lesson size is small. GC owns a lot of beautiful property & use it for hiking, climbing, canoing, and biking. Traditional program & facilities - not a country club but a real camp! You will love it if you like making your own choices and trying new things!

I've been at green cove for 5 years and i'm still coming back. It's a great place to just get away from the stress of life and overall, make true friends. I would recommend green cove for all those girls out there who aren't afraid to try new things....and get a little dirty in the process.

The camp is alright except I would never send a child there for the equestrian aspect. The barn manager has little to no experience and no patience. The care of the horses is definitely questionable. The other activities seemed very productive and the food and facilities are remarkable. However, I wouldn't recommend sending your horse crazy daughter unless you're both us for extreme disappointment.

All of the counselors were really kind and interested in the activities that they taught, except for one counselor who I didnt seem to be enjoying herself and was easily aggravated. She didn't seem to have as much tolerance as others. The food tasted good and the infirmary was really nice. However, I thought that the camp gave campers too much independance. I rarely felt like I knew where to be. I know that most people at Camp Greencove absolutely loved their experience and plan to keep going.
