Click to report rating    3/19/19   5     5     5     5     5   Going to Camp Mohawk was the best decision I ever made. There is an expansive choice of activities and you're always doing something fun, I spend my whole rest of the year planning and looking forward to it. I have gone to camp for 5 years and I enjoy it more than anything else in the world. The theme nights where you dress up every night is super fun and the competition between messiest and cleanest cabin is totally enjoyable. Each counselor pays attention to every camper and you even get 10 minutes every day to talk to them about your day and any problems you had. Although the showers and bathrooms could be a little nicer, if you're going to camp, that's what you should expect, it isn't a princess palace. The staff is also extremely nice and supportive, and they made my time so much better, I love the food so much and the cafeteria staff is so good with my nut allergy. If you are thinking about going to Camp Mohawk, you should, I made so many friends and had the best experience ever. RID: 52511

6/19/18   5     5     5     5     5   Going to Camp Mohawk was the best choice that my parents ever made for me. I was a camper there from the ages of 9 until 15, and I learned more and grew more there than anywhere else. Not only did my confidence and self esteem grow to new levels that before I wasn't sure were reachable, but I made friends that I know will truly last me a lifetime. The counselors truly care about the girls and their development into young leaders and strong young women. Almost every person working at camp is not only qualified, but has some kind of personal connection to it, whether they went here for a year or ten. The counselors are often here because they had counselors who made an impact on their lives when they were young, and they want to do the same. About the facilities, those reviews are outdated. The lighthouse/bathroom and showers were redone years ago, along with a new secondary rec center and stables and, this year, an office. COME TO CAMP MOHAWK! RID: 51901

11/11/17   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp for my first year last year. Everyone is so friendly and it is my favorite place on earth. Everyone is so friendly. I was in cabin 6 and I had the early morning showers. But the thing was, everyone was up because they were so excited for the day to begin. On of the girls in my cabin got very homesick. My counselors gave her paper to draw pictures of her family and help her get through it. My counselors were Sophia Hastings and Ally. Some things they didn't add to the packing list are: duct tape (to hang things on the wall), stuffed animal (if you get homesick), watch or mini alarm clock (incase you wake up in the middle of the night and need to know the time), crocs (trust me, everyone has them.) Finally bring shower shoes because the floor can be dirty but just flip flops will do. Have fun at camp! RID: 51472
Click to report rating    11/6/17   5     5     5     5     5   An outstanding experience -- everything a summer camp should be. The Marchand family does an extraordinary job of making camp feel like a warm, nurturing community that still provides plenty of opportunities for growth and development. RID: 51465

8/4/17   5     4     5     5     5   Im about to be attending my 4th year of camp mohawk. (I'm leaving in 2 days) I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Im going to be 13 at camp this year and I'm sure i will love it. Sometimes there IS some bug in the showers but it really doesn't matter bc you are only showering for 10 mins. The girls in my cabin have always been VERY NICE! The counselors are so nice to everyone and have fun activities. The food is actually great and the activities are fun. Patrick (the director) is very nice and funny and knows almost everyones name by the end of one week. I WOULD RECCOMEND THIS CAMP TO ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE!!!! I LOVE IT RID: 51169

7/31/17   5     5     5     5     5   This was my daughters second resident camp this summer. The first was a very upscale camp in NC rated a level 5. When we arrived at Mohawk, I was pleasantly surprised. The grounds were beautiful and felt more like "camp" than a resort! The staff and girls welcomed my 13 yr old daughter with opened arms and she was instantly made to feel welcome! We travelled a long way from Ohio and it was such a peace of mind to drive away knowing that my daughter was in good hands. The activities are excellent and the Cape Cod Option is incredible! I'm not sure of what Mahawk's pas has been and I don't care. Mohawk in 2017 is an excellent choice for girls! I am very particular about my schools and camps and I give Mohawk a mark of excellence! Traditional camping, builds confidence, small enough for your daughter to build lifetime frienships. The daily updates, newsletters and photos on line are so wonderful and allows parents to see what their daughters are doing day to day. Wonderful Camp! RID: 51144

8/23/15   1     3     3     1     2   My 8 year old attended this summer. I am SHOCKED at what she experienced. The counselors put the girls to bed at night, and then went to their own sleeping area where they drew privacy curtains. There was a little girl in the cabin who cried ALL NIGHT every single night they were there. She would get out of bed over and over again and poke my daughter relentlessly UNTIL SHE WOKE UP, and she would cry and cry and tell my daughter how she hated camp and wanted to go home. The would happen over and over again, AT BEDTIME, in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, and in the WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING. My daughter was NOT ALLOWED TO SLEEP by this girl. She asked her counselors (who slept and never woke up to help) for help in dealing with this, bc she was exhausted and could never sleep. The counselor's response: SORRY, THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THAT. I sent my little girls to camp to be a CAMPER, and instead, she was left to do the job of her counselors. I am disgusted and sad. RID: 49118

7/5/14   5     4     4     5     5   Camp Mohawk was and is my first summer camp. This is my fifth year attending. The staff are phenomenal, the cabins are cozy, the food is great but my only complaint is the lighthouse. By the end of the session, there's so much dirt and water on the floor that it looks like the pond the camp is settled next to. Some of the bathroom stalls have broken locks while the showers occasionally have missing parts- yes MISSING. This means: drains, handles, curtains, roof-grates and sometimes even showerheads. However, there is a new lighthouse this year and I have higher expectations for it than in past years. Every counselor has a drastically different personality to accommodate for all girls of all ages, interests and characters. I wish the horses were treated better there but I suppose it can't be helped with having so many. If you're looking for a camp to send your daughter to, SEND HER HERE!! You won't regret it!  5/11/14   5     4     5     5     5   I had attended Camp Mohawk for 4 summers, and I have loved them all. Sure, the cabin may seem a bit rustic, and the Lighthouse (restroom/showers) aren't Ritz Carlton quality, but none of that took away from my experience. I always found the counselors to be nice, helpful, and fun. They all really know how to make your camp experience the best. The camp owners the Marchands, are so involved with the camp and always can brighten your day. They even each dinner everyday with the camp. Nothing beats trying to beat camp owner, Fran at archery. That brings me to the activities. I always took part in the Equestrian Camp which I highly suggest. The trainers were great and the horses are great. The activities in general vary greatly, there is something for everyone. Basketmaking and photography are really unique fun. The drama production is also super cool. I have truly made so many friends at this camp, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great summer. RID: 47306

5/6/14   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my daughter's 7th at Camp Mohawk, and she absolutely loves it. Mohawk is everything a traditional summer camp should be. It is a rustic but comfortable retreat from our fast-paced, high- pressure, electronics-filled world. At Mohawk my daughter spends time singing in the dining hall, making lanyards, and learning to sail on Mohawk Pond with her best friends - the girls she met at camp and sees every summer. And she comes homes each summer supremely happy and full of confidence! I cannot say enough about this camp - from the camp directors to the counselors to the community of campers, Mohawk is fabulous. RID: 47284

1/16/11   4     1     1     1     1   WHATEVER YOU DO NEVER SEND YOUR KID TO THIS CAMP IF THEY ARE ABOVE 10 (I AM 13)THIS CAMP SUCKED!!!! i WENT FOR ONE WEEK AND WHEN I SAW MY MOM I CRIED BECAUSE I WAS SO HAPPY TO LEAVE. tHE LIGHTHOUSE WAS DISGUSTING AND BUGS WOULD FALL ON YOU WHEN YOU TOOK A SHOWER. MOST OF THE BATHROOM STALLS DIDNT LOCK. I ALSO FOUND MYSLEF DITCHING THE CLASSES BECAUSE WHEN YOU GO TO SIGN UP FOR ACTIVITIES THE LITTLE KID GET THE BEST ONES BECAUSE THEY GOT TO PICK FIRST.I DID STAMPING,FRIENDSHIP BRACELET MAKING, ROPES(NOT BAD) AND SCRAPBOOK MAKING. ALSO WHEN YOU HAD TO PEE AT NIGHT YOU WOULD HAVE TO WAKE UP ANOTHER KID AND WALK A FAR TRIP0 IN THE DARK TO GET TO THE LIGHTHOUSE. NEVER GO TO THIS AAWFUL CAMP YOU WILL REGRET IT!!the only part of this camp i liked was the counselors rachel and flore, they were amazing. RID: 34856

8/5/10   5     5     5     5     5   Campers this is a wilderness camp, not the Hilton Hotel with amenities. You will experience bugs in the Lighthouse, mud, dust, and campers with snoty attitudes. If you experience a counselor with a bad disposition, speak with the director of the camp right away. I do not mean you get a counselor in trouble since things are not going your way. Camp Mohawk (CM) has nothing to do with camper's attitude, campers arrive with their attitudes. Do not allow an unhappy camper (bully) ruin your stay at CM. Empower yourself, if a bully tries to make your stay a nightmare tell the Director. No bully has that much power unless you give them that power. Moving forward,CM has great food, various activities to enjoy, there is alwsays a new experience and do not forget you are learning about yourself daily. If you are looking for a great camp experience, meeting campers from all over the world, Camp Mohawk is the place to be! RID: 33620

4/14/09   3     4     3     2     4   Last year was my first time at Camp Mohawk. It was very cheap for a camp, and it's good if you want to enjoy a true camp experience - no new, modern stuff that you see at some other camps these days. I must say the lighthouse was disgusting, and in the shower you'd sometimes see bugs (among other things other campers left behind when they were showering). Like the staff, the campers are overall pretty nice, I guess, except there are a lot girls who are mean for no reason at all, and care too much about looks. The food was suprisingly good, and there are so many extras in the camp - each day there is a special event, and it gets better in the second week. Talent show, a dance, etc. I recommend going with a friend. It's very tight-knit and if you're not outgoing you're going to be bored when you have free time. RID: 29490

11/3/08   3     1     1     2     3   i went to this camp for 2 yrs, the 1st yr was good b/c i was in the youngest age group and we had bathrooms (no showers) in our cabins. the next yr i went back and the cabins were gross and we had to go 2 the disgusting lighthouse 2 go 2 the bathroom and shower. the activities became rly boring and the girls in my cabin werent very nice. the food was ok. but this past yr i was miserable. the girls were mean, 1 counsellor was weird (the other was pretty nice), the activities got rly boring, and the facilities are horrible and arent many of them. i would recommend this camp to basically no one, unless you only go for one yr or only when you're 7 thru 9 (the yrs in the youngest cabin). also never go w/ a friend. but overall u shouldnt go. also just want 2 make one thing clear...there are NO TENTS but pretty gross cabins but still no tents. also the director ISN'T MEAN AT ALL. he is one of the nicest ppl ever he knows almost every camper's name and he's soooo nice. i dont recommend it RID: 27293

Click to report rating    7/18/08   1     2     1     1     1   i went to camp mohawk this summer ... i am warning u know parents and children DO NOT SEND UR CHILD TO CAMP MOHAWK i got homesick and they dont allow u to call i had to write a letter that took 4 days to get to my parents the director moched me for being homesick other conslors called me selfish and yelled at me i was so homesick i threw up and my counslors exact words were "ok kool" please do not send ur child here it is terible even the nurse would yell at me... it was a terrible experience RID: 24924
Click to report rating    6/23/08   4     3     2     4     3   Last summer was my first at Camp Mohawk. It was a lot of fun but being my first time at camp, I had a hard time. The girls in my cabin were REALLY nice and so were our two counselors, Leah and Emily. Cabin 10 was like a big family!!!! The activities at Camp Mohawk really helped bring all the girls closer together. I got pretty homesick for my family, and it didn't really help that the showers were kind of gross (most broken and they all had bugs and spiders and stuff) and the cabins always felt like they were going to fall apart. The food was pretty good for a camp serving so many girls, and they had a great variety of activities. I recommend going to Camp Mohawk for girls who want a lot of individual attention, and are looking to try new activities. I wouldn't recommend Camp Mohawk to anyone who is really fussy about cleanliness. Be warned that when you have to go to the bathroom at night you walk up a hill that's rocky and dark and sometimes scary... RID: 24156
Click to report rating    4/6/08   5     5     5     5     5   i went there today to have a tour and i really liked it. im looking forward to going. and for all the people who said that the places were you slept were in tents that isnt true. you sleep in cabins. RID: 22027
Click to report rating    1/18/08   5     5     5     5     5   I was a camper for ten years and worked at Mohawk for 2. I plan on going back again this year to work. The saying of Mohawk is "The Spirit Lasts a Lifetime" and it surely does. Everything I have learned at Mohawk has stuck with me through the years. From horseback riding, to making friends, to silly little camp songs, to how to be a independent woman, I grew up with Fran marchand and the crew at Mohawk and every day, evidence of the kindness and compassion they showed me shines through. An amazing camp, amazing staff and so many memories that will truly last me a lifetime. RID: 19111

Click to report rating    8/25/07   5     5     5     5     5   I loved my time at camp mohawk. this has been my third year. this summer i was a jc. i loved it as a camper, there were so many choices. i always did the horseback riding camp, rachel the riding director is amazing. but my friends did the other stuff and they loved it. as a camper the staff were always so nice to me they go out of their way to make sure you are happy and having fun. The cabins are really nice as well. i use to go to a camp were we stayed in tents and hated it, so mohawk was so much nicer. The younger kids have their own bathrooms and the lighthouse(bathroom) is central to all the units. I really liked the food chef paul was back again this year!!! i am really happy to be a jc this way i can make sure the campers have as much fun as i did. RID: 14464
Click to report rating    7/5/07   5     4     5     5     5   I went to Camp Mohawk for several years and am now a bit removed and more objective. I was wary of sleep-away camp, but found Mohawk to be a very intimate setting where I felt like I recieved great attention and assimilated easily. There is quite a variety of activities for girls to try (I myself was introduced to my favorite hobby at Camp Mohawk). I made many friends with whom I kept in touch and looked forward to seeing year after year. There is a great tradition at this camp, which many of the staff and certainly the director understand. Also on the staff, many are from interesting places, introducing other ways of life to the campers. In addition, I found that the facilities were good- bearing in mind that it is summer camp- intended to be rustic and not a Ritz vacation. If only I had not grown up... RID: 12751
Click to report rating    7/4/07   3     2     2     3     2   camp was fun last year i was a little homesick for the first week but after the dance i loved camp and didnt want to go home all the girls there were soooooo nice i miss you guys so muchh! the showers at camp were really gross though there were spiders on the floor and there was barely any hot water and the toilets were gross too and i didnt like the fact that we couldnt use cell phones but other than that this camp wasnt that bad RID: 12716
Click to report rating    4/22/07   5     4     5     5     5   ok well, for one there aren't tents at camp mohawk, there are cabins, and the director is the nicest person ever, he's the best. it's worth the money, the lessons you learn there stay with you forever, i've been going there for 4 years and they've been the best four summers of my life. i'm still friends with cabinmates from 4 years ago, and whoever doesn't like this camp doesn't allow themselves to really enjoy mohawk and what it has to offer. it's home to me and many others. i can't wait to go back this summer. RID: 9928
Click to report rating    3/14/07   5     5     5     5     5   Whoever says that this was a horrible camp can slap themselves in the face. Camp Mohawk is a summer haven, and if you were smart, you would sign up now! RID: 8601

Click to report rating    3/4/07   5     4     4     5     5   I LOVE mohawk. It makes a big difference if you have good counselors and bunkmates, but that's the same with every place. The food is good, the cabins are pretty nice, and a good 90% of the counselors are excellent. I had an amazing time there and made tons of good friends. I can't wait to go back! RID: 8293
Click to report rating    12/23/06   2     2     5     4     4   i got sick at camp but got over it and had fun. i was the most mature girl in my farm class sso i helped clean the stables, feed them and feed a baby bird.(the counseler didn't trust anyone esle to do it) the counselers weren't that great but i made some great friends. i'm going there next year. Click to report rating    12/20/06   5     4     4     5     5   Mohawk is awesome. I've been going for years and i absolutely love it. The value for the money is great, since some sleepaway camps are ridiculously expensive. This is a real camp experience, and usually everyone loves each other and gets along....howeve, you know, teenage girls will be tennage girls! Also, theres lots of fun things to do if you take advantage of them. I think they key to having fun is deciding to enjoy mohawk....its all there and the staff and camp are awesome, you jsut have to let yourself have fun RID: 6138
Click to report rating    11/25/06   1     1     2     1     1   THSI CAMP WAS SO BAD. i went there and ughhhhhhh. i got homesick and i NEVER get homesick. and i got thrown by a horse there. i couldnt stand up 4 a WEEK. waste of money and time!!! RID: 5296
Click to report rating    11/14/06   3     3     4     5     4   Camp Mohawk is the first sleepaway camp I've been too, and I wouldn't call it perfect but it was nice enough. The food was okay, the activities great, the couunslers were all different. I think that it all depends on your cabinmates and counslers- my counslers both hated me and my cabinmates were all already friends (5 out of seven knew each other, me being one of the all alone 2). It was tough having only one friend (the other girl who didn't know anybody) but I got through. I made friends from other cabins too, but that was different. I know that if I had had nicer people to spend my 2 weeks with I would've liked it better, but oh well. And I didn't shed one single tear when it was time to go home. RID: 4960

10/29/06   5     4     4     5     5   Oh camp mohawk. The love of my life, where i have been spending summers since i was 10. It truly an amazing place..Ive never once gotten home sick, in fact, ive actually gotten camp sick. I dont really know how to describe this place..words wont do justice. Yeah, its just a regular, over night, ymca camp..but its more to the campers. Its home, truthfully; thats how you feel there. The staff, from all over the world, is amazing and the directors are equal. It family oriented and deffinately a place to send all your daughters, i know i will. RID: 4428
