I love the camp SO SO SO much! If you are looking for a camp that has, good food, nice campers, nice campgrounds, great activities than this is the place to be. The college league and is amazing, although it can be rough when you lose it is worth the time. I been going to Camp Matoaka for 3 years so this year (2024) will be my 4th year going. In my opinion this is not a good camp if you are not athletic because most of the activities are sports but there are WAY more things to do than sports! If you like meeting life lasting friends then come to Camp Matoaka.

I love matoaka. The thing is my cabin was divided into two, there were cool girls and just really odd girls. I’m not a mean girl, the odd girls litterally imitated animals and would hiss like a snake. Most of my friends were nice, but one girl was especially mean to me. Now, I look at other camps and I can’t help but miss it. The activités were so much fun my counselors were so nice and college league was SO MUCH FUN even if we lost lol. There were fun games, and Sundays got a bit boring but it was okay. Towards the end, I made friends in other cabins and everything turned out all right. I could call my parents once and omg there was these cooking classes and then at the end of the week they would give out awards and I remember getting my first award!!! It was so much fun. I don’t miss the mean girls but thinking about it I do miss the home matoakas given me and I’m sad I can’t return bc my parents don’t want me to.

I attended this one terrible place for a whopping three years. the girls there are mean and the counlsers are no better.the administration is corrupt, and would read our letters before sending them, and if they said bad things, they magicly wouldn't turn up at home. i will say that the facilities are somewhat okay, but they waste all their money on them, rather than finding good counselors. also, when i called the owner before redgursting my first year, i was promised i wouldent have to do anything i did not want to, and i have a severe fear of water skiing, but yet, they made me water ski 5 times a week, which after you factor in the other required classes i was forced to take, left me one period of fun for the day. also, the food was horrid there. lost 18 pounds because i wouldn't eat more than the bare minimum. but did they care? no. instead they went right along with their dumb collage league and color war, wich for the record, i was SCARED of.i could go on, butt here is a limit.

Matoaka has been such an amazing experience for our 9 year old. This year 2017 was her first summer. Her 7 year old sister will go with her this coming summer. Her counselors were so kind and she made so many new friends from around the world. Her favorite activities were water skiing and horse backing riding. She claims the food was great with many choices. Love Matoaka!

matoaka is the best thing that ever happened to me. the fact that people are saying it was the worst place ever honestly confuses me because clearly they have something wrong with them because it is the most amazing place on this planet and nothing will ever change my opinion on that. i made my best friends there and my best memories too. i went for 6 summers and i don't regret one second of it. such an incredible experience and the food is actually the best food i've ever had i crave it all the time. i feel bad for people who didn't get to enjoy matoaka because of all the unbelievable opportunities it provides. matoaka became a part of me and it is my favorite part of me i don't know what i would do without it. i'm grateful for everything i got at matoaka and the unforgettable memories i made with the entire matoaka community. rock the pink and purple.

My daughter will be returning for her 2nd year. She loved this camp and is in constant contact with her camp friends. The grounds are beautiful and my son commented that "this place looks like a country club!" Your daughters will be taken care of very well. My daughter had a minor injury and they took care of her with exceptional care! ( I am a Physician by the way) They not only took care of her medical issue, but the way the counselors and staff responded to her emotional needs was incredible. The other girls were so caring to my daughter, she felt so loved! The girls, counslors, and facilities are top notch and I would highly recommend this camp!

look i'm sure people do not like matoaka and that is your opinion. I love matoaka. This is going to be my fifth year going and i am so excited. For all you haters: you probably don't like matoaka because you didn't even try to have a good time.

I LOVE MATOAKA!!! after you leave matoaka, all you think about is matoaka. People who have left matoaka always love it. and dont listen to the haters(most have probley never gone to this camp, but just want to take their anger out on it) i promise you, if you go you will love it. SO GO TO MATOAKA THE BEST CAMP IN THE LAND!!

WORST CAMP EVER. the grounds are gross and the camp looks old and dirty. I spent two summers here and the girls were rude and the counselors were obnoxious. I then switched to Vega which is so much better and nicer and the counselors are so much more helpful. GO TO VEGA!

The leadership of Matoaka is fabulous. The owners know every single camper by name and are constantly thinking of ways to improve the camp. The assistant director is friendly, outgoing, professional, and passionate. Facilities are great and are being upgraded every year. There is a wide range of activities, the most popular being waterski and tennis. They have a very high camper and counselor return rate, which shows how much people like the camp. No single camp is right for every camper, but Matoaka has a diverse camper community, with campers coming from all over the country and several campers from other countries (including foreign nationals, not just Americans living abroad). Overall, it is a an excellent camp with a dedicated staff, friendly campers, and a beautiful campus.

From someone who worked there and was disgusted by the way they treat your kids: Don't send your children here unless you want your child to be a "mean girl," cared for my a mostly alcohol-obsessed foreign staff.

This was the second summer that i sent my daughter. She loves camp. The camp is beautiful and there are many activities for everyone. The bunks are clean and updated. As far as some of the other reviews, there are mean girls everywhere and at every camp. The girls need to deal with that. Can't wait for another amazing year at Matoaka. The owners are great and take very good care of the girls.

Matoaka is one of the most amazing places ever. Every friend I made there I talk to every day. I live ten months just for those two months of the summer. As soon as camp ends my countdown for the next year begins. I have been going there since I was nine and I never want it to end. The spirit of the camp is amazing. It's always exciting and the friends you make there are your friends for the rest of your life.

This camp is really horrible. As you look at the comments you'll notice a lot of the people mention campers being terribly mean.It is absolutely true. If you don't want to be treated like****, do not go to Matoaka.

I attended matoaka for 8 summers. i went from the earliest age i could go until the summer of 2007 where i was a queen. I have met the most incredible people and the most memorable experiences at matoaka. I loved every second of every summer i went. The fact that I am not aloud to go back is completly heartbreaking. I still talk to my camp friends EVERY DAY, they are honestly like my sisters and i can tell them anything. Matoaka's spirit is the aspect of this camp that kept me coming back. There is so much community and love with everything we do, its really touching. When i was 8 YEARS OLD i first attended camp matoaka. My parents signed me up for the first 4 weeks not knowing how i was going to like the camp. When i got my first phone call i convinced them to sign me up for the 2nd session. Ever since then my summers have been irreplacable.

new ownership -too strict & rigid.My daughter called it boot camp. by end of summer,she said no one was smiling anymore.So-called competitive sports non-existent.Too many hi-fat,hi-carb food choices. My daughter refuses to go back.

no other camp beats this one. it changes you in such an emotional way that its unforgetable. your matoaka friends are different then the ones at home. you can talk to them about anything, and you become summer sisters. the matoaka magic spreads across every girl's smile as soon as she steps off of that greyhound bus. if you think your camp is greater, your wrong cuz MATOAKA IS THE GREATEST!

omg it is HORRIBLE... the worst summer of my life was at Camp Matoaka. theres 20 girls in a bunk, EXTREMELY crowded, expensive, too many girls that are mean, and the counslers are mean too. DON'T GO THERE! YOU'RE REGRET IT!

I spent five summers at Matoaka and plan on going back as a counselor. In fact, I go to Colby College now, which is just down the road. Matoaka truly shaped my character and the person who I grew up to be. The best memories of my adolescence.
