Click to report rating    7/17/22   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter’s first year at Merri-Mac was last year as a 10-year-old. She had a wonderful experience, made close friends, and begged to go back again (for a month!). All of the counselors are so down to earth and kind, and supported her wonderfully during her first summer of sleep-away camp. We also like that it is grounded in Christian values, but it is not overly conservative and the emphasis is on modeling those values through friendship, listening, adventure, joy, and love. My daughter is going back this summer (not for a summer yet—mama’s not ready for that!) and is so excited! RID: 53579
Click to report rating    8/15/18   5     5     4     2     4   I’ve loved merri mac ever since I was little!! And now I’m on staff and it’s so fun!! I love the girls and the camp is beautiful and fun!! Thankfully the directors were never really around. They never bothered to learn anyone’s name. Adam I think eventually learned my name, but Anne never did. She would never praise any staff for what they were doing well, but rather always critique. A lot of the staff became scared of her. Don’t get me wrong, constructive criticism is great, but when it’s done nicely and using my name. Their motto is they “develop staff” but how can the directors do that if they don’t even bother to learn counselors names and have most of the staff afraid to approach them. Anne never crisitcized nicely, which became disheartening and felt as though I was doing a not good enough job even though I was really exhausted. But overall being a camper is the absolute best experience but being a counselor can be frustrating but rewarding nonetheless. RID: 52188

11/30/17   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter was a counselor at Merri-Mac, and my son a camper, then later a counselor at Timberlake. Their camp experience is one of the most positive influences they have had in their lives. This camp understands how to integrate a meaningful experience in formative years with fun and a great time. And one of the most important things for us as parents, is the comfort of how the owners are so engaging and place safety as top priority. I would highly recommend this camp. RID: 51514

11/30/17   5     5     4     5     4   I have been a member of the Merri Mac family since the mid '80s. Over the past 30+ years I have watched the camp grow and flourish under the direction of Adam and Ann Boyd. I have two sons who attend Camp Timberlake and I get to see Merri Mac every summer. The counselors are exceptional, the facilities are incomparable, and the safety is outstanding. Some of my dearest friends are from my days at this camp, and they all send their daughters to Merri Mac. I have heard how their girls are growing in independence, spirituality, and confidence. The best people in the world are camp people and Merri Mac sets the standard for excellence. A good camp begins with strong leaders who care greatly about the staff they hire and the experience they are offering to their campers. This is abundantly clear at Camp Merri Mac. Your daughter will have a life-changing experience at this camp. I know I did! RID: 51511

11/30/17   5     5     5     5     5   I adore Camp Merri-Mac. This haven has shaped so much of who I am as an adult. My oldest and dearest friends are all friends I met while there. I know I could travel anywhere in the country and call on a Merri-Mac and will have a friend and place to stay. The activities are astounding and the staff is top notch. I love this place so much, and now my 10 year old daughter loves it so much! I would love for her to be like any of the counselors who work there. They are upstanding women who are amazing examples of women of God. Thank you Boyd family for making such a safe, beautiful, and clean space for my daughter to go every summer. I am jealous she gets to go:) RID: 51508

11/30/17   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Merri Mac is an incredible camp where girls have the opportunity to grow in their faith and leadership and also have incredible experiences and adventures. The staff are professionals at the activities they teach and take excellent care of the campers. The facilities are amazing and the attention to detail sets this camp apart from the rest. RID: 51507
Click to report rating    11/29/17   5     5     5     5     5   This is one of the most amazing places for a girl to spend her summer. My girls have been richly blessed by their experiences at Merri Mac. The friendships made there are life long connections that will continue on through their lives. RID: 51504

3/10/17   4     4     4     4     3   Counselor point of view: Generally great staff working under oppressive leadership. I worked as a counselor 3 summers mainly bc I loved my friends and adored my campers. Owner doesn't bother to get to know counselors - never even knew my name. All about the bottom line. By the end of the summer, counselors are burned out and many don't return or do just because of their friends. Need to give counselors a break... more respect and perhaps shorter tenures to keep things fresh. Most successful camps do this. I later worked at another renowned camp in the area, friendly and they knew my name ! RID: 50528
Click to report rating    11/20/16   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Merri-Mac provided me with memories for a lifetime. I am still friends with girls I went to camp with and know we will be connected forever. Not only did I have an amazing time at camp for 8 summers but I was instilled with Christian values and my faith only grew stronger each time I went back. Every time I went home from Camp Merri-Mac I found myself a changed girl who had a even greater relationship with God. The pure joy, fun, & happiness that is at Camp Merri-Mac is like NO other!  1/15/14   5     5     5     5     5   As a parent I was thrilled with Camp Merri-Mac and my daughter's development there. The counselors are amazing role models and I fell that my daughter is safe and cared for there. She has discovered a passion for several of the activities that tried at camp that enriches her life all year long. She looks forward to her camp time all year and stays in touch with girls all over the country that she met at camp. This was not the first camp we tried, but it will be the camp we stay with. My younger daughter will be old enough to go to camp next year and she can not wait!! RID: 46584
Click to report rating    1/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   The counselors at Merri-Mac make it their number one priority to love each child and make them feel like a part of the family. Attention to detail is also a top priority. The facilities are well-maintained and very nice. There is a great variety of activities, many of which are unavailable to campers in their hometowns (kayaking, pottery, fencing, etc.) Merri-mac is absolutely a place that you would want your daughters to grow up at. I know mine will. RID: 46447
Click to report rating    1/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is the most amazing place in the world. Camp Merri-Mac is full of incredible staff who really love working there. They pay so much attention to each camper and are very skilled at the activities they teach. The camp ground is so beautiful and so much fun to run around. All the girls at camp were so friendly and nice. This camp was the most amazing experience I have ever had and made me into the person I am today. RID: 46445
Click to report rating    1/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Merri Mac was fun at age 8 all the way through age 16 as a camper. It provides a fun and enriching experience for girls of all ages. It gave me a healthy since of independence and adventure. I was able to try things I never had before such as kayaking and archery. I not only had the opportunity to form relationships with my counselors, college-aged Christians, but I also made some of my best friends at camp and we continue to visit each other 4 years after we stopped going as campers. I have grown so much as a person and as a Christian because of camp Merri-Mac. The staff demonstrates Christ's love in every aspect of camp without shoving the message down people's throats. Proud not only to be a camper of this incredible place but also a member of the staff that is committed to a fun Christian camp experience. Would recommend this place to anyone RID: 46443
Click to report rating    1/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   I attended this blessed place for 7 years, and it has changed me each year I return, even as a staff member now. My memories as a camper expanded my growth in skill and in faith. I learned how to play the guitar here, and it will forever be one of the most valuable activities to me. The staff, especially in horseback riding and on the waterfront, always maintain safety as the priority, but this camp strives for an environment of fun. Send your daughter here, and she will be surrounded by enthusiastic role models in a beautiful setting with countless activities and opportunities for fun. She will learn about Jesus and experience His love in every moment. Send your daughter here, and she will obtain the confidence and joy she needs to grow. RID: 46442
Click to report rating    8/13/12   5     5     5     5     5   I've gone to Merri-Mac for three years, and I have left each time wanting to stay longer! The staff really cares about the campers, and the activities are so much fun, and you don't normally get to do some of the activities at home. Personally, my favorite is archery, but they're all really great! the tribes are one of my favorite parts though! Go Iroquois! RID: 42351

Click to report rating    3/6/11   5     4     5     5     4   How heartbreaking to read negative reviews about this camp!! I was a staff member at the camp and was amazed at how deeply rooted the camp was in faith, comraderie and fun. As a new person it took some time to adjust to the long-standing traditions, but every person there - camper and staff alike - helped to make the transition easier. I have never met a more Christlike group of staff who are 100% committed to making camp a wonderful experience for each and every camper. Almost 15 years later I still keep in touch with many of the staff and campers from my Merri-Mac days and I cannot wait to send my children there! I have spent my entire life at summer camp as both camper and staff and have seen numerous camp programs from both sides. There isn't another camp anywhere in this country that can top what your child will receive spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally at this camp. RID: 35278
Click to report rating    3/4/11   5     5     5     5     5   this camp has got to be the best thing ever! its all i think about and i love it so much, i wish i could live there! i made the bestest friends there, and this camp helped me come out of my shell and make me who i am today. camp merri mac helps you grow mentally and spiritually, and produces girls with great personalities and attitudes towards life. by sending your child here, youd be giving them one of the greatest gifts in the world and the experience of a lifetime! i love camp merri mac! <3 RID: 35264
Click to report rating    7/18/10   4     4     5     5     5   This camp is a good Christian camp with alot of fun things to do. The staff are nice, the buildings are clean, and the kids are friendly. The cabins are really cozy and during rest hour we can read or take a nap. My favorite games at camp are Sock War and Gold Rush. I went for two weeks last year and I want to go back every year! RID: 33378

Click to report rating    2/25/09   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Merri-Mac is the best thing thats ever happened to me. Its my second home and the only place I don't have to worry about my appearance. The staff is caring and kind and the campers are accepting and fun. I aspire to grow up to be like many of the counselors that i've had there. I've made life long friends and grown into who i am today because of Merri-Mac. Its going to be my nineth year as a camper and when the time comes i hope to continue going as a counseler. I reccomend this camp for anyone. RID: 29111
Click to report rating    9/1/08   5     5     5     5     5   I'm personally disapointed to see the few bad reviews because i dont think that these people really must of tried to enjoy merrimac. Merri-mac has changed my life in ways i cant even explain but i'll try all the same. Merri-Mac is the place that picked me up when life was getting hard, when i felt like noone loved me. Once i got to camp and i was just surrounded with love and friendship. God was always near and the staff were always there to talk. I've been going there eight years going on nine and i plan on becomeing staff one day. Camp Merri-Mac is something you dont want to miss out on. (: RID: 26266
Click to report rating    2/8/08   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Merri Mac truly changed my life. I was a camper there for about 8 years and it helped make me the person i am today. I made many life long friends at camp that i still keep in touch with today. There is never a dull moment at camp with all the activities including daily activities, tribal events, cabin events etc. Most important camp helped me grow closer to God. the staff does an amazing job at helping open the campers hearts to the Lord. the staff does a very good job at giving each and every camper the attention they need by being available at any time. Click to report rating    11/26/07   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE MERRI MAC!!! wow i am so happy to find this rating thing because marri mac is one of the best things that ever happened to me!!! i have so much fun every year and i have made some of my best friends there. i have learned how to do alot of stuff to, the activities are great, the only thing i can really think of wrong is how come its only in the summer? ;-) if it were a year round school, i would definatly go!!! i love everyone and everything there and they take such good care of you one year i got really sick and had to be taken to the hospital but i didnt mind because the nurse was so caring and whe i got back everyone was asking me how i was. people honestly care there and i could never find i place where i feel like i belong as well as at merri mac. we have girls going as young as 6 and they even love it. It is a religious camp, but not in a ridiculus nun type way. i honestly feel closer to god there, and its not jst because i am on a mountain. ;-) RID: 17452
Click to report rating    6/3/07   5     5     5     5     5   I have to disagree with the bad ratings. For one this camp is not boring, so what if you do the same activities and games every year, then pick dif activities for the next year. and the games are great! they can't get broing cuz you only do them like once a year. And the other campers are so nice, they are only mean if you are not nice to them! I have made a ton of nice friends here! I like how it is also focused around God. This camp brought me so much closer to him. And i have to agree with the picky eater, The food is great! (especially taco in a bag day) And the reason they won't really let you talk to your parents unless its serious is because then you can't enjoy your camp experience as much! You can't have fun being homesick, and you'll get even more homesick talking to your parents, I invited My best friend to camp and she got super homesick and wanted to go home that first year, but by the end of camp she didn't want to leave! And she's come back every year since!I LOVE IT 2!! RID: 11430
Click to report rating    4/18/07   4     2     1     2     2   The activities are all boring after a year, and none of the counselors take them seriously. They do the same events every year also and it gets incredibly boring. The counselors are mean. And you get no chance of going home or talking to your parents they just try to talk you out of it... I was miserable and wanted to go home and tried to talk to my Mom but none of the counselars would let me. This camp is like a prison! A prison full of catty girls... RID: 9828

Click to report rating    2/13/07   5     5     5     5     5   I, personally, ahve been going to camp merri mac for seven years and i have had a COMPLEATELY diffrent experiace! The staff is the best! I remember very vividly when i was 11 (2 yrs ago) I got scared and i woke my counseler in the night and she talked to me and she made me feel so comforted. The campers there are so sweet. they all are so helpful. We have tribal events and and initiaton. Every morning we have chapel and in the afternoon we have rest hour. We sing mainly, its a big part of the experiance of merri mac. The family thhat owns the camp is so fantastic! they are so helpful! If i had a choice of ANY OTHER CAMP, i would still go to merri mac. Click to report rating    1/23/07   1     2     2     1     1   I hated it it was soooooo expensive and all the girls there were stuck up rich brats! One time I got up and fainted for the first time in my life and a counselour accused me of faking just because I wanted to go home! I went to the infirmary because I didn't feel good, but later the counselour made me leave. I went to go find her to go back later, but she wasn't around, so I just went back and she came and got me again! I wanted to go home and the family that owned the camp tried to talk me out of it! I refused. Oh, and they didn't let me call my parents at all. The food was usually awful and it wasn't very clean anywhere you went. I was overheated and overworked and overtired. I never had fun. Usually I can make friends easilly because I am a nice person (even though I don't sound like it now), but there I didn't because I was not rich! This was the worst experience of my life and I shudder to think about it! Please take my advice. RID: 7111
