The place will never be the same. Kids are supposed to be able to make mistakes growing up, apparently not at this camp. DOn't bother with them its actually a real shame but the new Director seems totally inefficient and doesn't seem to know anything about running a camp, parents beware. RID: 53973

Click to report rating    9/1/17   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter has gone to camp at Road's End Farm for six summers now. Being that she was a little shy, we where worried about how she'd adjust at first. Our concerns were unwarranted, she loved Road's End Farm from day one and she's developed many lasting friendships in her time there. I think this speaks to the environment the staff creates. It's supportive, nurturing, and really brings out the best in the girls their campers. I'd highly recommend Road's End Farm Horsemanship Camp to any parent looking for a friendly camp that allows their daughter to flourish. RID: 51309

7/31/16   5     5     5     5     5   Road's End Farm is not just the best place on earth, a home away from home but an extended family too. My daughter made friends her first summer that she met up with the next year, and this has continued and grown for 5 years. After two weeks at camp more confident young lady emerges with new friendships counting the days till next summer. She loves the staff, the riding instructors, the director, and each and every horse. We just dropped her off on a rainy day to a squealing bunk of girls and were confident she would be in her "happy place" until we picked her up in two weeks. RID: 49858

7/22/14   5     5     5     5     5   Our daughter considers REF her second home. The director, Tom, and his staff are the most caring, genuinely nice people I know. This is definitely a camp for horse lovers; there are lots and lots of horses for the girls to take care of and ride. But the focus is definitely not on competition of any kind. We can't imagine a better place for our daughter to spend her summer. RID: 47672

5/27/14   5     5     5     5     5   I can't say enough about how great this camp is. I went Road's End as a kid and now my daughter goes in the summer. Beautiful location, great staff, and great food with options for vegetarians as well. This is a working farm -- all the girls pitch in to help with everything -- cleaning and tacking horses to prepping and cleaning up after meals. And the counselors are so great. The girls not only get to ride but they learn how to really take care of the horses as well. If your daughter is interested in riding and having a real camp and country experience -- definitely sign up today. And the Woodman's who own and run the camp are just wonderful. RID: 47344

4/13/14   5     5     4     5     5   My daughter has attended Road's End for four years now and I cannot say enough positive things about it. Tom, Alicia, Margaret and Harriet are the most wonderful people you will ever meet, and their love for the girls and their commitment to ensuring a true, wholesome (but not sanitized) summer experience is so genuine and so heartfelt that time on the farm becomes so much more than simply "camp." Each summer my daughter came back more mature and more self-assured and, dare I say it, less spoiled and more appreciative of the world around her. And, almost as a bonus, she has become an enthusiastic and confident rider, skills that she puts to good use where ever we go -- the only downside to Road's End is that your daughter will want to plan future vacations around locations where there are ample opportunities to ride! Click to report rating    4/13/14   5     5     5     5     5   I absolutely love this camp. the horses are great (!) and everybody is really nice. It is up on a hillside overlooking the beautiful hills of southern NH. I have met some of my very best friends at this camp. I recommend it to anyone interested in spending their summertime hanging out with friends and horses. I love the "running of the horses" when the horses come back from the pasture after a day off! I love riding on the trails in the surrounding woods. I love lessons with my friends. I LOVE Cadence best of all. (He's one of my REF horse friends.) RID: 47194
Click to report rating    4/13/14   5     5     5     5     5   This was my daughters first camp at age 8 and I couldn't have made a better home away from home for her if I tried. The counselors and staff are passionate about horses, caring towards the girls making them feel like one big family and made her stay really fun. She did not want to leave. She has gone back every year since. It is located in a beautiful setting and is a real farm. Her clothes did not come home clean which is how summer camp should be! RID: 47193
Click to report rating    4/12/14   5     5     5     5     5   This is literally the best summer camp for girls in the entire world. Girls learn responsibility and how to be themselves. The counselors are always wonderful and the camp director is the kindest and wisest man I have ever met. I wish that I could stay the whole summer every summer. RID: 47182
Click to report rating    1/20/14   5     4     5     5     5   I dropped my daughter off for her first camp experience and she could not waite for me to leave, was never homesick and did want to come back home. I wanted her to develope confidence outside her comfort zone and this was definitely the right place to do so. A nurturing, non competitive environment for those looking for a supportive atmosphere. Click to report rating    10/27/13   1     1     1     1     1   This camp is awful. The staff is composed of poorly trained teens. The owner yelled at my daughter when she told him she was scared to ride the horses on trail. The facilities are extremely unsanitary. The dishes and sliverwear are covered in food from the previous meal. The cook does not was her hands, wear goloves or a hairnet, she uses nothing to touch the food. The meal was spagettii one night and she reaches right into the bowl with bare hands and transfers the spagettii onto smaller plates for serving. the girls spend about 2 hours waiting to ride them have lunch then the rest of the day is freetime. the few activites are poorly planned and the girls have no clue when they begin. there were 15 girls to one counsler in my daughter cabin. it was all over a terrible experience for my daughter and it most likley has many health code violations as well as safety violations. DO NOT SEND YOUR DAUGHTER HERE! RID: 46202
Click to report rating    8/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   My 9-year-old daughter attended this camp for the first time this summer and loved it! The older kids are so kind to the younger kids. All the counselors and staff work very hard to make both kid and parent feel comfortable. It's an intimate experience on a gorgeous property. My daughter is absolutely horse crazy and it was hard to peel her away from this camp after two weeks. She wants to got there even longer next summer. RID: 45741
Click to report rating    1/19/13   5     5     5     5     5   I love roads end soooooooo much!! I love the horses and the people are amazing!! The food is awesome and the activities are so much fun! I love climbing Monadnock, paddling down the Connecticut rive and going the the fair is so much fun. Aside fron taking showers 2x a week( you swim every day it's fine) , the cleanliness is amazing. The dorms are awesome and I think all those jerks who say the camp suck are wrong. RID: 43432
8/12/12   5     5     5     5     5   This year I went to Road's End Farm for the first time, and I loved it. I decided to go because a few of my friends went and loved it, so i decided to try it. It was truly a lot of fun, and even though I was with my friends a lot, I met a ton of new people. All of the staff were really nice, and I do feel that my riding got a lot better. The dorms were awesome. They were clean and new, and had no bugs or a lot of dirt. Even though the camp was great, more showers would have been nice. The one thing that did take away from my experience was that I was forced to take swimming lessons. My friends all passed out of the lessons, but since I was new, I had to do them. This made it hard to find them when I got back, and I did feel kind of left out. The staff tested in water that was too shallow, so it was hard for me to swim right, along with other girls. Other then that it was an amazing experience, and I look forward to going back next year. Click to report rating    7/29/12   5     4     5     5     5   Roads End Farm is truly the best summer camp experience available. REF is truly more than just a summer camp. Besides the beautiful herd of 70 gorgeous horses covering the hills of NH surrounding the bulidings, incredible staff, welcoming and fun campers, first hand experience with caring for horses and riding instruction, and sense of family that the camp provides, REF has truly taught me life lessons and values that i hope to incorporate into my own life and has shown me responsible, kind, and caring role models that i hope to become more like as i become older. In addition, the camp has really fostered my confidence and it feels like a second home to me. The camp is truly a great place to be. Any young girl that loves horses, is kind to others, and isn't afraid do a few chores or get her hands dirty, would be lucky to stay here. I have learned so much here about myself and horses but above all that i have had so much fun in my years here. I would highly recommend this camp! RID: 42139

5/25/12   5     5     5     5     5   This place is amazing! It's a slice of heaven; beautiful grounds, amazing horses of all levels the staff is extremely caring, giving and diverse. The riding instruction is perfect with both ring and trail rides. Great environment for campers who are looking to get back in touch with reality. This is not a fancy, pretentious camp for “snitty” kids who can’t stand to get dirty, what it is - an amazing place in the country where we learn to work hard, see life for what it is, appreciate and respect the natural environment around you and each other. None of my friends want to go home at the end of camp, we want it to last forever! It’s our home away from home! RID: 41115
Click to report rating    2/5/12   5     4     5     3     4   i went for three years and i loved it until i saw the real side of the owner. I am a kid myself and i loved that barn but when i learned i would have to bunk with 8 year olds i was not happy. you see there is only one bunk for each age group and at the time i was ten. my mom had come for a visit cause the camp dog died and i was very sad. i told my mom what was happining and she said she would talk to tom because we all had the idea that he was a sweet old man. he yelled at my mom and said that i would just have to deal with it and he did not handle it an appropriate way. dont be fooled hes not as nice as you think so watch out. over all i did enjoy my years at camp and it was not a waist it was a very special experiance and i am happy i went the counselors are very nice and the horses are the best. Click to report rating    1/12/12   5     5     5     5     5   This place is truly special. My daughter had a wonderful time here and will be returning this summer. It is non-competitive, casual, happy, and fun. The director grew up on the farm and wants the girls to feel like they are visiting family -- they have the run of the farm and the freedom to relax, while riding every morning. You do have to get up early to feed the horses! And the accommodations, showers, etc., are clean but not luxurious. So while the place may not be for everyone, the people who like it really love it. Click to report rating    12/27/11   5     5     5     5     5   Hi everyone! I have been going to REF for 9 years! Best place in the world, it is a second home. I have made my best of friends at camp, some from out of the united states! The herd of horses is great, the riding camp is not competitive, you ride at your own level. I have learned so much over the years, words can not describe how much I love this place. The owner Tom Woodman is the most amazing person ever. The staff is different each summer, including old campers, new councelors, even international councelors. I recommend this camp to anyone who has a love horses. Going to Roads End Farm is very much worth it! Come join, meet new friends, ride fun horses, and have the best experience of your life. RID: 37568

Click to report rating    8/27/10   5     5     5     5     5   I've been going to REF for two years now, and am currently campsick. Meaning, I want to go back. :D The food is the best food that I have ever had at a camp, it's soo good. I have stayed a total of five weeks there, and I haven't been homesick once. Not even the first night, which is pretty amazing because I've been to other camps and been really homesick. It was because all of the girls and counselors that went/go there made me feel especially welcome. I mean, I walked right in the door and one of my now good friends introduced herself and offered to show me around the farm. <3 REF isn't a place where you'll find competitive, lazy girls. This camp attracts a certain personality, and it's great because then we get along well and have the time of our life at camp. The *only* thing that might make poeple uneasy is the two showers a week, but there's swimming everyday. I just wanna say that I love this camp soooo much, it's like a second home to me. I wanna go back <333333 RID: 33880

Click to report rating    1/11/09   5     5     5     5     5   Road's End Farm is actually my second home. I love it there!! It is my 5th year this year and I plan on going until I am a CIT and then a counselor. The riding is perfectly laid-back with horses for every type of rider. The home-made food is really great, and the camp is one big family. All the counselors are amazing and basically you should go. Really. Go. Now. Oh yeah and also its small and Tom and Alicia are two of my favorite people ever. Road's End Farm is not just about riding, which you will probably not be doing for your whole life. REF is about learning how to be a better person and how to live your life once you enter the real world. Only downfalls (for some people, not me) is that it is not a super competitive intensely focused camp. Sometimes (like when it rains) you stay inside your cozy dorm and hang out with your friends with no scheduled activities. Again I see no problem with this but some people need the over-stimulation. I LOVE ROAD'S END FARM! SUMMER 2009! RID: 28525
Click to report rating    11/18/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is my favorite place on earth. It is amazing! The horses are beautiful and so is the farm. It is a down and dirty kind of camp. Not fancy shmancy. I <3 IT!!!! RID: 17220
Click to report rating    7/5/07   5     5     5     5     5   there are no words to describe this place other than simply amazing. i was only a camper there for 5 years, but have kept in touch and still visit frequently. campers enjoy so much freedom, while still being held responsible for taking care of the horses and doing light chores. the staff and especially camp directors, tom and alicia, are so attentive and take the time to get to know each and every camper. the horses are in a herd and there are ones that fit every riding ability. there are four riding rings and soooo many trails through the woods. swimming is also fun at nearby lake spofford. canoe trips on the connecticut and hiking mount monadnock are also some highlights from my time there. there is so much more to write, but i have nothing but good things to say about this wonderful place. Click to report rating    3/18/07   5     5     5     5     5   This is the best camp I hve ever been to. I have been going to sleep away camps for 7 years, and I have never been to a camp that I have enjoyed more. If you are looking for a camp where you will make many lasting friendships, be around horses nonstop, and be respected as a young adult, then this is definatly the camp for you. But, be prepared to have to use an outhouse,be allowed only 3 showers a week, and have to wake up early to take care of the horses. If you are looking for a place where you can lounge around and have a cmpletely realxing camp experience with no work, then look somewhere else. RID: 8778

Click to report rating    8/23/06   5     5     5     5     5   They had the right horse for every camper, and the land was beautiful. Tom and Alicia, the directors, were involved and very friendly. I am still in touch with the numerous friends I made there, and I think it would be very, very difficult to find a better camp. RID: 2313
Click to report rating    8/6/06   5     4     5     5     5   This camp was amazing. The horses were great, Tom is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Instead of focusing on cutthroat competition and showing, the horsebackriding here is more about enjoying being around horses and having fun. The only bad part is the fact that you have to use an out house(which is scary in the middle of the night despite the fact that it is clean and doesn't smell bad) and also the fact that you can only take 3 showers a week (however this is only really a problem if your over 12). Both of these things however are understandible considering the amount of campers they have to cater to. RID: 1850
