First of all, the staff! The staff is amazing! I love every single one of the counselors, and Liz, Casey, Erin, and Garrett are awesome! They are all full of amazing hearts and I will look up to them for the rest of my life! Next is facilities. Alright, so this camp may not be a resort, so if that's what you are looking for then you shouldn't be going to camp! The cabins are homing and I have been able to bond with my cabin mates in them and make tons of memories! I love every single building there! Activities! They are all awesome! My favorite is mountain biking. Attention, the best it could be! Everyone loves everyone there! With the small amount of people there, you get to know everyone, and it's great! Monetary Value! This place could be the most expensive place ever, and I would still want to be there! I love it so much! This is my favorite place on Earth! I love it! RID: 51839
7/7/17   3     1     3     4     2   I attended this summer camp in 1999. My experience was traumatic. My counselor stole my towel from me when I was in the shower and I was encouraged to "just walk naked" back to my cabin from the restroom (cabins and bath facilities weren't connected back then at least). I had to walk back in a shower curtain, then I was ridiculed when I returned to my cabin with a picture taken of me wrapped in the shower curtain by my counselor, Emily McKee. At one point, I was bullied by the entire cabin, and that included my counselor who favored the other girls. I was lucky to have one friend in my cabin that stood up for me, as she recognized what was going on. I was shamed, ridiculed and humiliated. I had just completed 8th grade, and that's already a difficult time for a teenager. If your child is already a favorite at this camp, then keep shelling out the money, but if she's not...don't waste your time/money/emotional stability. RID: 50936
Click to report rating    10/20/16   5     5     5     5     5   BEST CAMP EVER! Glen Arden provides a wonderful summer opportunity for girls. I loved my time as a camper and I now proudly send my own daughters. They love camp and would go all summer if they could! The traditions are upheld, the clans provide great community between campers of all ages, the activities are endless, the out of camp and in camp overnight trips are amazing, the rock slide inside camp is one of the best features, the POOL!!!, the blob and rope swing on the lake are so fun, the food is fantastic, the barn and riding rings are the best I've ever seen. I could go on and on about how awesome Camp Glen Arden is. It's definitely the camp to choose for your daughter(s)! The directors love what they do and love the girls as their own. I feel comfortable each summer leaving my daughters in the care of Garrett and Erin Graham and the staff they hire to care for the campers. IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN CAMP GLEN ARDEN!!! RID: 50193

8/16/15   5     5     5     5     5   STAFF: They were great! Our 8 year-old daughter was in a cabin group of 3 with 2 counselors, a great ratio for the younger kids. The counselors went above & beyond to create a good time, including spending hours late night helping the "Tajar" play mischievous jokes on the camp. When the counselors sing it's usually in 4-part harmony. I was impressed. The counselors have a blast in an appropriate role model way. Everyone unplugs, bonds and grows together. FACILITIES: The camp is on the national registry of historic places, the buildings have character and are in a gorgeous setting. ACTIVITIES: Not only do the girls learn activities they can choose to master what interests them. I love the depth and breadth. PERSONAL ATTENTION: The camp directors and staff know every child's name and truly care about each one. MONETARY VALUE: You can't put a price on what your child will take away. It's a lot of money for us but worth it many times over. We're hooked and will be back year after year! RID: 49078

9/1/14   3     2     4     1     3   My daughter went in the summer of 2010. It would be the first and last time she will ever go. First off, her counsellor really didn't care about her needs, or when she'd cry. According to my daughter, she would just brush the campers off. The cabins are terrible. There's holes big enough in the floors for a raccoon to get through and some cabins don't even have a light bulb. Activities were relatively good, but she described some as crowded. Reason why personal attention in 1 is because my daughter LOST 16.4 LBS there. She's a picky eater and their "3 bite rule" left her starving, especially with all the hiking up and down the mountain. I didn't even recognize her and I almost broke down in tears. No one said a thing. I found an extremely better camp for her and I can say I'm severely disappointed in this camp and the money didn't equal to the fun it gave my daughter. RID: 47939

Click to report rating    6/12/12   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp as a little girl and now my daughter is attending. Casey, the director, truly loves what she does! There are lots of fabulous activities and traditions! The setting is absolutely beautiful! Campers leave with a strong sense of self and lifetime memories! RID: 41274
Click to report rating    4/27/12   5     4     5     5     5   I started at this camp at 8 years old and went until was 19. I learned so much and met wonderful people who inspired me. I can't wait to send my daughter when she is old enough. They have a wide variety of activities so each child gets to experience something new. The activity progression system allows kids to achieve goals. The kids can do activities for fun as well as earn badges for achieving the goals. Sometimes they get a nice surprise they pass a level in an activity without even realizing it and it encourages them to do more. I will recommend this place to anyone. RID: 40898

Click to report rating    7/8/11   5     5     5     5     5   This is a fabulous all-girls Christian camp with an amazing and caring staff. I attended this camp for 9 years, starting at age 8. I loved the wide variety of activities offered, including day and overnight trips to go kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, and horseback riding. The camp had an overall positive atmosphere, from singing in the dining hall, to morning activies, to afternoon events, and friendly team competitions (Go Reds!). The beautiful mountains made a wonderful backdrop for lots of summer fun. I hope that someday I can go back as a counselor to help other children enjoy the great outdoors and make the wonderful memories that I have of Camp Glen Arden. Your daughter will have the best summer ever if she attends this camp. RID: 36316

Click to report rating    10/5/10   5     4     5     5     5   I loved this camp. I attended in 2007 and I might attend this year too, since it'll be the last year I'll be able to go. The cabins were really rustic, and needed actual windows since it got cold at night, but hey, that's the whole camp experiance right?! The staff was amazing. They helped me through my homesickness. I even got a cold at camp, and the nurse was really nice and I got better in just a few days. The activities were awesome. The only things I didn't like were that we had to walk really far to get to the upper riding ring. Oh well! I had a great time, and even though I was saying to myself that I'd never go back to camp again, once I left I missed it soooo much. Definitely worth your time and money! Oh, and GO BLUE CLAN! (: RID: 34192
Click to report rating    9/7/10   5     4     5     5     5   One of the best summer camps in the southeast for girls, if not THE BEST. While the facilities are definitely not posh the directors and staff are first class. The nurturing environment and freedom given to the girls to explore new activities as well as friendships with girls of all ages is wonderful. While the facilities are rustic, and the roof's may occasionally leak, there is a reason that Glen Arden just celebrated it's 60th reunion- girls go home with lifelong friendship and a love of the outdoors and nature that they carry with them into adulthood. I spent then best summers of my childhood as a camper, and returned to help show that magic to the next generation as a staff member. A truly awesome and wonderful experience for any young girl! Click to report rating    5/6/10   4     3     4     3     4   Rustic camp with wilderness charm. Some cabin are old fashioned log cabins and some are a little newer. All quite comfortable. Bathrooms, called "Egypts", should be replaced. Most are old and get clogged easily--both toilets and showers. Sometimes the water level for entire camp falls short and people can't use facilities or wash. They need a new system Programs are good and staff generally are friendly. Great campfire on Friday nights with lots of memories made. Pool is located in the open sun which heats up the cold mountain water. No real swim lessons anymore. Usually just games. Current staff are mostly lifeguards and not water safety instructors. The lake is really a tiny pond--adequate to teach some basic skills in kayaking or canoeing. The water is very murcky looking and looks uninviting but is harmless. The "blob" and rope swing make swimming more appealing when free-swim takes place there. No sailing anymore even though it shows on brochures. Good horse program. RID: 32716

Click to report rating    6/5/09   5     4     5     5     5   My daughter attended CGA for 10 years. It was worth every penny and she considered it her second home. Each summer she came home a little more mature with wonderful memories and lifelong friends. The staff are wonderful and CGA provides a true traditional camping experience wich we wanted for our child. We didn't want a posh environment with all the technology of today's world, but an environment that fosters the morals of our family. She is returning as a counselor. We have much gratitude for CGA. Click to report rating    5/3/09   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going for 5 years, so does my whole family. It is so magical, the people are what make it an amazing experience. Casey and Liz are wonderful, and the counselors are never dull. Year after year, girls return, which result in long lasting friendships. If I had not attended Glen Arden, I would not be the woman I am today. RID: 29653
Click to report rating    4/24/09   5     4     4     5     4   I attended Glen Arden as a child, and now my daughters attend. The campus is stunningly beautiful, with natural waterfalls and hills. The cabins are rustic, but well-maintained. I found the bathrooms to be close and adequate. My daughters enjoyed all the varied activities, especially horse back riding and drama/musical theater. I love that everyone still dresses for dinner (in navy shorts/shirts) and goes to church on Sundays. I would highly recommend this camp. The director, Casey, is caring and warm, and enjoys camp - it shows! Located high in the mountains, just south of Ashville, it's a beautiful experience for any young girl! I feel confident that my daughters are learning and growing at Glen Arden, not just being "shipped off" for the summer - and that is important to me. I want them to be able to remember their summers at camp with warm memories of friendships and enrichment. I believe Glen Arden provides them with that opportunity. RID: 29572
Click to report rating    3/5/09   5     5     5     5     5   This is the best camp in the world. I learned so much here as a camper and had so much fun. It was such a positive place for me as a kid and it helped me to be independent as well as a team player. It is the most inspiring environment I have ever experienced and I have traveled far and wide. The people are amazing there. Casey, the director, is always friendly and knows everyone's name. Glen Arden teaches you to live comfortably in nature, it's a camp in the woods with beautiful trees and views, it's not a condo! The activities are taught by young women who specialize in their craft and can give professional level guidance, and the food is incredible...Glen Arden is the place to be! RID: 29176
Click to report rating    6/18/08   4     2     5     4     4   The camp was great! The cabins leaked, and the bathrooms were far away. Other than that, the food was wonderful, the staff was extremely nice,we get so much free time and freedom, and at every meal we would get up and sing and dance. RID: 23971
8/18/07   3     2     2     4     2   The staff and personal attention seemed okay, but the facilities were in need of repair (leaks in roofs of more than one cabin, hole in the floor, mice in cabins, needed general painting and sprucing up!) The activities were LIMITED for campers in the special 'first-time' campers' session. The girls in this session ranged from 7-10 years old. There was no woodworking (which is understandable) and no photography (didn't understand that) which WERE explained in the information package. But, there was also NO archery or riflery available which was NOT explained in the information package. This limited the available activities for campers. My daughter did not like that activities were limited to those that 7 year-olds could do regardless of age. That is a BIG spread in age and the older girls did not like being restricted to activities for 7 year olds. We will be looking at other camps that are similar in pricing, but offer more activities. My daughter liked the staff and other campers. RID: 14161
