It was an excellent experience for her not only with her musical sessions but also interacting with an absolutely wonderful group of campers! The camp staff is simply top notch! Hand picked by the camp directors, this group of adults are very accomplished musicians in their fields of study, and come from some of the best musical institutions in the US. I would highly recommend this musical camp without any reservations. Nestled in the town of Hamilton, NY, the facilities at Colgate University are wonderfully designed to maximize the students participation and allow growth in their various disciplines. You will not be disappointed. RID: 52757

Click to report rating    8/5/14   4     5     5     5     5   Overall I had a great time at EUSMC! My music skills grew tremendously along with my confidence!! I really enjoyed waking up and starting off at a theory class, it really got me ready for the rest of the day. After that I felt like all my classes fit me and what I wanted to do in life. During my 2 weeks here, I had 2 private lessons. The lessons I took helped me out so much with the music we were playing. EUSMC's counselors were also great. They play along with us in the orchestras which is awesome! I felt like I could talk to all of the staff including the director who made me feel great about camp on my first day. The one thing I didn't like was the food. I am a picky eater and I didn't love the food all though it's not exactly in the camps hands. The people were also amazing, I'm still in touch with multiple friends and we still get together and relive our times at camp. Overall EUSMC is an awesome opportunity that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in music! RID: 47784

8/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   I attended EUSMC once as a camper and once as a counselor, and those summers were two of the best experiences of my life. The program offers a good balance of playing in ensembles of different sizes, learning theory, and having both structured and unstructured recreational time. Through each of these experiences I grew more comfortable with myself both socially and as a musician. I developed lasting friendships with campers and counselors from around the world. The Lowerys are both unpretentious mentor figures, and Mr. Lowery, especially, would find a way to drop life advice that I still follow to this day in the middle of band practice or before a performance. As for the walking with counselors rule, while it is inconvenient, it's also an NY state regulation that EUSMC has to follow. And the food is fine--not great, but it's summer camp, so lower the bar a little bit. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to experience EUSMC, and I would encourage anyone to attend.  3/19/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have attended the Eastern US Music camp as a counselor in the past. I can honestly say that it was the best summer of my life. I learned a great deal of musical knowledge while I made friendships that I can't live without. The classes open the eyes of the campers and give them experiences they otherwise wouldn't have. After attending the camp i couldn't wait to go back. I learned so much while having an amazing experience with friends I won't ever forget. The instructors are incredible and change throughout the summer so that the campers can experience different teaching styles. I highly recommend this camp for your child if they have an interest and love for music, they will have an amazing musical experience while having an amazing summer with great friends. RID: 40566

3/3/12   5     4     5     5     4   I first attended EUSMC 3 years ago, not knowing what to expect, and I got more than I bargained for. EUSMC changed my life. It has molded me as a musician and as a person. The campers and staff have become my family and I wouldn't trade my time there for anything. The amount of literature that we are exposed to and the experiences we have with various teacher and conductors are irreplaceable. The EUSMC board make sure that the campers have a memorable musical experience each and every day and night, including renowned musical guests, such as the US Army Woodwind Quintet, and known bassist, Rick Shaw. However, the campers do get time to themselves. Recreational periods are nice to relax during the day, but not so much as to waste our parent's tuition money, and we always get time to relax after dinner. The food is decent considering we are on a college campus, but it is totally worth it for the experience. I don't know what I'd do without EUSMC to come back to each summer. Thanks EUSMC! RID: 40439

Click to report rating    2/28/12   5     5     5     5     5   I was fortunate that my parents approved my attending the Eastern U.S. Music Camp, Colgate University, Hamilton, NY last summer for the four-week session. The staff are very supportive. The campus is beautiful. You can choose from attending two, three or four weeks. I had such a great time, I am looking forward to another fun-filled 37th season in music and so many other activities. RID: 40417

Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     4     5     3   I've been going to this camp for the past two years and those two summers were honestly the best of my life. The friends, memories, and experiences that I had while attending this camp are priceless. This camp gives you a good feeling for what being a musician really is, and the hours of rehearsal really make you grow as a musician over the course of the summer. If I could have rated the personal attention higher than a 5, I would have! The counselors and other staff members really try their hardest to make the campers feel right at home. My first summer here (also my first experience at a sleep away camp) was scary but the staff accommodated my every need and made me wish that the camp was longer! The only drawback of this camp is that it is only four weeks! I wish that I could have stayed longer! Thank you Eastern US Music Camp for all the life lessons, friends, and experiences that you gave me! RID: 40410
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   I first started attending eusmc at 13, and was a quiet, awkward kid who wanted nothing more than to play rock songs on his guitar all day; here I am, four years later, studying jazz guitar, classical piano, and to the shock of everyone around me, the pipe organ. I would never have made the switch to jazz guitar without the encouragement of the director, never taken piano studies seriously without the example set by the awe inspiring piano professor, and never received the opportunity to regularly practice organ studies on a truly diverse and grand instrument (courtesy of Colgate Universtiy). I've had good times and bad times, but I can't think of a single experience that hasn't benefitted me. The camp has truly changed me for the better, and set me up for a satisfying life filled with music. As for the food and freedom issues, the food IS NOT that bad, and, as a councilor last year and this year, I will PERSONALLY ensure that I am available for transport, and that others are as well. Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been a part of EUSMC for quite a number of year, having seen the camp through the lens or camper, counselor, and staff. This is where I truly came to know and embrace who I am as both a person and as a musician. This camp gives young musicians the chance to truly be part of something special. I was here able to spend all day everyday doing what I love with fabulous people. The staff are not only some of the most talented people I have ever met, but also some of the kindest. EUSMC is run by one of the most genuinely caring families I have come in contact with and I wouldn't trade my experiences with these people for the world. If you want to send your child to a place where they can use their talent to its fullest, meet new friends, and enjoy an incredible summer, Easter US Music Camp is a perfect place to do so. Thank you, EUSMC, for everything that you've given me. RID: 40408
Click to report rating    2/27/12   4     4     5     3     2   I've been going to this camp for the best two years, once as a counselor and once as a CIT. Campers do have a lot of restricted freedom, but the program is awesome. You play music for 6/7 hours a day and get to meet kids interested in the same thing as you are. Being a CIT is great, the freedom and the staff are really nice. The food is...camp food (although it has gotten much better). There is hardly any down time, but same goes for the music industry! Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   One of the most incredible camp experiences I have ever had. At this camp I got to do what I loved all day with experienced instruction and make great friends along the way. The counselors were all mature and the instructors were all accomplished professional musicians. RID: 40402
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   This camp really helped me discover my love for music and make great friends at the same time. The conductors were top notch and some of the best I have ever worked with. I still remember our camp performances fondly because everyone gives it the full effort and great things happen as a result. RID: 40401
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   After attending a few music camps, this is the camp that helped me to accelerate my career and passion for life. I am currently finishing my 3rd college degree from Indiana University on it's most prestigious scholarship they have to offer at at a place which is considered to be one of the top music schools in the country. The direction and leadership of the Lowerys is unmatched by any across the country. I truly enjoyed and valued my time at EUSMC when I attended as a student. RID: 40399
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been attending this camp for many years and every year has been an excellent and inspiring experience. The faculty and staff are very experienced and have made me into the musician I am today. I have made friends that I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life. I wouldn't do anything else with my summers. RID: 40396
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     4     5   This camp inspired me to be a better musician. It's only drawback is that it is only 4 weeks! RID: 40395
Click to report rating    2/27/12   4     4     5     4     3   This is a great camp for igniting a lifelong love of music. The staff are as helpful as they can be, the facilities are good, and the food is pretty decent as well. The lessons and ensembles make sure that you play for a considerable part of the day. However, if you're particularly serious about music, you may want to consider another camp. This is good for getting your feet wet, or sharpening chops, but not for any sort of massive musical improvement. RID: 40394
Click to report rating    7/30/11   1     1     1     1     1   Do not send your child to this camp! If you complain about anything they will call you a liar. The classes are boring and you can't play your instrument at all. Recreation time does not exist! You can't move anywhere without a counselor but they keep disappearing, so you are stuck in your dorm room during your "recreation" time. Anything they offer you before you paid the hefty fee does not exist, including swimming, basketball and volleyball. The food is terrible, and causes equally awful diarrhea. This camp will nearly ruin your child's love of music. The director and staff are unpleasant and tense. Think twice before you send your kid there. RID: 36558
Click to report rating    6/29/11   1     1     1     1     1   This place is an absolute waste of money. My child went here, believing that there was a good range of vegetarian foods, but instead, got food poisoning. The staff is only a few years older than the children themselves, and the teacers my child studies with during master classes and private lessons are much better. The dorms are not air conditioned, and the facilities are too far apart. My child actually came to dislike playing her instrument at this camp. Only one recreational period is allowed. While I know that this is a music camp, I believe that they have over done it. RID: 36245
Click to report rating    7/28/10   5     3     5     4     5   Fabulous for talented young musicians. They thrive socially and musically. Good especially for those with one foot in the classical world and the other in jazz or rock. High-caliber faculty. Campers come from Europe and Latin America. Impressive student performances. Well-supervised. Intense days of study and practice. Accommodates students of all skill-levels. About a five-hour drive from NYC. Our daughter, who plays violin and electric guitar, has attended two years and could not stop gushing this year about her fellow-campers talents and her own musical awakening. Colgate dorms are not air conditioned but are clean and bright. RID: 33522
Click to report rating    3/4/10   5     5     5     5     5   My son attended last summer and had a great time. They have a terrific music program-nurturing and supportive staff, and counselors. He felt that he made valuable progress with his music and was truly inspired by the staff and the campers. As a result he has decided to learn how to play the guitar and bass, in addition to his current instruments. The program focuses on music in a non-competitive environment with some down-time, but its mostly about music. His only suggestion was that the food could use some improvement. RID: 32274
