Click to report rating    1/22/24   5     5     5     4     5   The discovery camp is their most popular and is available to kids 9-12. It is 5 days long. They stay in a group dorm with boys and girls separated and shared bathrooms, that are exceptionally clean. Most activities happen outdoors, and are nature oriented. The camp is in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. it is awesome and kids make friends, swim in the swimming hole everyday, play camouflage (go to find out what it is when you go) The campers get to chose between certain activities and either 4 or 8 mile all day hikes. Campers get quite a bit of choice over some of their activities. There are camp songs, games, and all traditional activities, but also some naturalist and other nature research and exploring activities. It is a wonderful camp. You could not do better. RID: 53953
Click to report rating    8/13/10   5     5     5     5     5   Ratings come from campers. This camp is medium size among the Camp Quests in North America. It is held at Tremont in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Conducted as a secular humanist camp for children of non-believers, CQSM accepts children regardless of their beliefs or the beliefs of their parents. CQ promotes free thought, rational inquiry, and a naturalistic view of the world, but does not advance any particular beliefs. Girls and boys, ages 8-17, come for adventure, friendship, leadership and service. A Counselor-in-Training program promoting leadership is available to older campers. Activities include hiking, swimming, nature studies in the park environment, arts & crafts, science studies, board and field games, Socrates Cafe, campfire, night walks, and learning about great Freethinkers and Philosophers. Campers sleep in an air-conditioned dormitory during the week-long camp. Meals are provided by the kitchen staff of the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. RID: 33715
