Very disorganized -the aspects I saw were total chaos, with no one knowing who is doing what, who is responsible for each child, etc. There was no back-up venue set up in case of rain. Well, it rained -because, well, it's VANCOUVER! In the lunchroom, staff sat with their backs to the kids. When one child ran around pushing several smaller kids to the ground, a leader watched, did nothing, then caught my observing eye, and only then said lethargically to the child, "Hey, man, maybe don't do that..." After a three hour session, none of the staff were able to identify who any of the kids were, nor which ones they needed to transfer to a subsequent location. A number of young children were left in utter confusion, several to the point of obvious stress (teary eyes, etc) on their faces. When I talked to just one other person about this experience, they replied, "Yeah, my boss almost killed one of the leaders over [a major safety issue imposed on the six year old girl the previous year]."

This camp is pretty bad. You shower in groups, with NO dividers or curtains, so you can see ...ummm... everything. Kids clean toilets, collect the camp's trash with no tongs or gloves, and clean out the gutters. When it is your turn to set the tables, you don't get half as much food as everybody else. Which isn't too bad, because the food is awful too!

My girls were in their summer soccer camp. On one cold rainy day with strong wind (Vancouver can be chilly in August), they were outside playing for 3 hours. By the time they called me, my girls were totally soaked and shivering, their faces were purple. It left my younger daughter (4 yrs old)'s fingers swollen (a sign of frostbite) for hours. Staff told me that they had no rain plan or an indoor facility to accommodate the kids to take part in alternate activity. Most upsetting thing was that while the kids were in the wind blowing tent in the soccer field freezing, those coaches took turns and traveled to nearby Tim Hortons to get themselves hot chocolate! Mind you, this was a summer camp. It was that cold!As you know, UBC Sports Camp are run by mostly student staff. They can be exciting and fun, but they may lack in parental common sense.. . Would you leave your precious kids there? Never again for us!
