Click to report rating    7/23/19   5     5     5     5     5   Outstanding value for the price; traditional, straightforward co-ed camp experience a short drive from Chicago in a beautiful, rural setting. 4 night and 6 night options, usually also one 11-night (Sunday-Thursday) session each summer. All are welcome at this camp. No agendas other than fun and kindness. Activities are mostly outdoors and the dining hall and cabins and bath houses are very basic. The A/C is your screened, open windows and maybe an electric fan. This is a throwback to what summer camp used to be and no phones or electronics are allowed. So great for kids who need to step away from the computer for a week, though they may not realize how much they love it until they get there. RID: 52760
Click to report rating    8/28/13   5     4     5     5     4   I have been sending my children to camp for the past 4 summers now and this summer, 2013, was the best by far! Camp Shaw has a staff, more so now than ever, that is dedicated to keeping my children safe while making sure they have a summer filled with memories! There are new ideas coming in and I couldn't be happier! Five stars to Camp Shaw! RID: 45894
Click to report rating    5/9/13   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Shaw is a great value for the money and the campers just fall in love with it! My mother went there as a camper, my sisters, cousins, and friends camped there as children and worked as counselors, and my sons camped there and are now on staff. The staff make it a great time for everyone. Campers are totally unplugged from their increasingly electronic worlds and enjoy great interaction with other campers and our staff. Beautiful location along Rock Creek. RID: 44450
Click to report rating    6/18/12   5     4     5     5     5   This is a great camp. Kids feel very welcome here and the staff work extremely hard to make sure everyone is included in activities and the group. I sent both my boys here last summer (13 and 9) and they came home with so much confidence and good feeling about the experience we where amazed! There are no frills here, but then we wanted them to un-plug and rough it for a week. I can not recommend it enough. RID: 41335
Click to report rating    3/24/12   4     4     4     4     4   dont listen to whoever says camp shaw isn't a great camp. I've gone there for years and never want to leave. Although, I do agree that the counsellors are a little more interested in eachother than the campers. Besides that, it is great. Beautiful scenery, great food (personal chef), and fun games. They need to bring back mud volleyball though. There is a dance at the end which is always fun too. I would definately bring my child to shaw. RID: 40609
Click to report rating    7/11/11   4     3     5     4     3   As a staff member of 2011 and seeing all the behind the scenes work and effort put into making the camp better every day, I'd have to say that this camp is extremely great. Being a non-profit camp, it's nearly impossible to update everything at once, but they are slowly but surely trying to accomplish that in my eyes. In the end, camp is for the campers, and I have seen umpteen campers not wanting to leave at the end of the week, which is a great sign and also very rewarding. RID: 36353
Click to report rating    11/16/10   1     2     5     2     2   The staff were preoccupied with staff of the opposite sex and modeled behavior that was innapropriate for the minor children they were left in charge of. The cabins and dinning hall are in great disrepair although they did fix the pool/pool house. Offering horse back rides along with the water activities made for a well rounded experience. I will pay more for better food and better staff. RID: 34441
