I attended this camp from 2005-2018. The athletic staff, director of specialists and the counselors and group leaders were the best staff ever last summer. However, some of the Green Shirts were extremely rude and ignored issues of staff members. The Green Shirt that ran athletics and adventure last year was the man. As for some of the other green shirts, they need to learn basic people skills if they expect to run a camp. I will not be returning this summer. I have said it in past summers, but this time I am definitely not returning. This is my first summer without returning to West Hills since 2004 when I was not attending.

This is the most unorganized camp Ive ever seen. My child has gone there for 2 years. Every year it gets worse. This is his last year. Prices go up every year and the value goes down. No one returns calls. Sloppy and unorganized are the best words to describe West Hills Day Camp!

I went to this camp for 11 summers and I loved it at first! The camp is truly going downhill. I heard from a campers mom that her kid used to be so happy to now coming home complaining about it everyday. The new management sucks, the food is terrible and the activities there are just ok. You're lucky if you get very nice counselors, the staff is terrible. They sit around doing nothing, not getting involved. I can tell you one thing that there travel program is amazing! I had the time of my life doing the travel there but besides that I hate it. They are so grumpy and treat the staff like they're in prison. If you're looking for a camp on LI, I would personally stay away from this one.

I attended West Hills Day Camp for a total of six summers, but broken up due to four summers at sleepaway camp. I am glad to say that I grew up at West Hills and that this place surely shaped me into who I am. Everything is so organized, the grounds are gorgeous and they truly have some amazing staff members. The kids' needs get catered to, which I saw first hand being a camper as well as a CIT. I'm super excited to be a counselor this upcoming summer so I can reciprocate to kids the summer I received when I was their age.

It's going downhill fast. Placing greed above experience and staff that have been many years. Google the new owners name, see what comes up.

I went to West Hills a couple of years ago, and it was a horrible experience. The girls were extremely obnoxious and snobbish and teased me everyday. The campers think very highly of themselves, the counselors too. I had heard one of my counselors making fun of me, and when I confronted her about it, she denied the entire thing. My advice, if looking for a day camp in Long Island, try to steer clear of West Hills

I have always been very impressed by West Hills Day Camp. Even though it is a large camp every child's needs are met.I feel that they cater to the athlete and the non- athlete. They have a well rounded program that gives every child a taste of a wide variety of activities . Every year they add some new and exciting activities or programs to change things up a bit. The staff works hard to make everyone happy. My kids have gone from Nursery to Teens and loved every summer. The facilities are well maintained and spruced up each year. I'v come there with other parents and they say "just add cabins and this could be a sleepaway camp". The camp is spread out over many acres and there are many shaded areas. Groups are kept to about 20 kids with 3 and 4 staff members, thats a pretty good ratio. Overall West Hills has been a great experience for me and for my kids. I wouldn't send them anywhere else.

My son was not a happy camper last year! He normally makes friends very easily, however at this camp it seemed very 'clicky'. The counselors were not interested in activities and were not nice to the kids. Everything seemed rushed and not relaxed. Sorry, my boy is going elsewhere!

I've been going to west hills as a camper for 8 years (9 counting this up coming summer) and this is my first year as a staff member. I can tell you all that after reading through these posts that some people are upset that children compete at camp. Well thats what children do. I know every last memory of my time at west hills was an amazing one. I spent 3 years in the day camp, which my parents couldnt keep me away from, because i loved it there and couldn't stay away. i then spent 5 years in travel, and those were some of the BEST times of my life. yea, maybe our groups were a little big, but it was more kids for us to be friends with. the staff is some of the best around, we all truely care about the kids at this camp. i know that i felt i got enough attention and never felt left out, and i was one of the shy quiet kids (untill now). honestly i can say that west hills is one of the most amazing camps around.

YOU MEET COUNSLERS, WHO BASICALLY TURN OUT TO BE YOUR SUMMER MOM AND DAD. FRIENDS YOU MAKE, WHO TURN OUT TO BE NOT ONLY FRIENDS, BUT BROTHERS AND SISTERS. WESTHILLSDAYCAMP IS THE PLACE TO BE DURING THE SUMMER. i love west hills! <3! nothing will ever change.!

I went to/worked at West Hills for a total of 11 years... I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences of my life. The swim program is renowned as one of the best/most efficient on Long Island and the director of the swim program Eileen works extremely hard to make sure that each and every child at West Hills reaches his or her potential in the water. One on one attention is often given on a daily basis and parents who call about their children's progress are always given the time of day. I hope that I raise my family near West Hills so that one day I can send them there too!!!

The most amazing camp ever. My older daughter started going to West Hills after 3rd grade. I was concerned that she would be left out from the girls who had been together for years. My concerns were unfounded. She has made friends for a lifetime. She particulary likes the day trips they offer. My younger daughter is extremely quiet and shy with a particular fear of the water - would not even get her face wet in the shower. The swim staff gave her the attention she needed and the confidence to overcome her fears and conquer the water. She loves to swim and has become a great swimmer. Her goal is to be a lifeguard and swim instructor at West Hills. The staff loves what they do, love children, and it shows in every aspect of the camp!!

if you want your child to feel badly about themselves and become interested in materialistic things, then this is the camp for you. no one knows who my child is and i was not treated nicely when i was there. it attracts a certain type of family (the one who is superficial and self-important) This is how the staff behaves also.

My 2 kids have been going to West Hills for 5 years now. They love this camp more than I could have imagined! The staff has always been incredibly courteous to myself and my children. Any concerns or problems I had were immediately taken care of with what seemed like genuine concern. Both of my children were swimming on their own after 1 season at WH. Now that they have air conditioned buses, I have absolutely no complaints!

Although our child was only there for one summer, it is all she talks about. She hears songs on the radio and knows that they are camp songs. Thanks to their swim program, she is one of the best swimmers in her pre-school class. Our only regret is that we can't go there with her. I wish that we had camps like this when we were kids.

I love West Hills Day Camp!! My children have made wonderful friends and terrific memories over the years. The staff is attentive to both my needs as a parent and those of my children. They have both had fabulous counselors that provided excellent role models for my children. Supervision is great and whenever I visit the staff is actively participating with the groups. The swim program is first rate! What a great feeling for a parent to know that your children are happy and safe! We can't wait for summer of 2007.

My kids were there as CITs & with teen travel. First off: the camp is drop dead gorgeous. Their experiences there were nothing less than stellar. Personal attention couldn't have been more thorough and the comfort level my wife and I felt had to be the highest a parent could have. The breadth of activities is enormous. Did I mention how beautiful the camp is? If there's a better place to send kids for an unforgettable summer, I can't imagine where you can find it.

West Hills is a place that my 3 children look forward to the day after camp ends. The staff treats every camper with respect and tries to make them feel good about themselves. Supervision is easy to spot by the staff shirts they wear. They seem to add different activities every few years so that camp doesn't get stale for the boys and girls. The swim program follows the Red Cross criteria for instruction and camper/instructor ratio. My children all learned how to swimm very well there. A fantasy place for children.

I started my camping experience at west hills at the age of 5. I went through all the age groups and into junior and teen travel. I then became a counselor and was at the camp for an overall of 15 years. It is a wonderful place. As a counselor I was able to work with many great people as well as having many great campers that I still see day to day. Its always a great feeling to see campers that still remember you after a few years of having them in your group, because the head staff of the camp really doesn't have any interest in getting to know their staff members below them. But other then that, I think the supervision is great! as far as competition goes, I think that would be more for the boys, and as staff we are taught to eliminate that feeling of competition and we are taught how to in the orientations before camp starts. I think people need to realize how amazing this camp is and how many great memories your kids will have.

I have worked at West Hills for many years. It is the best camp ever. The camp is beautiful, and the staff is very dedicated. I think they do a wonderful job accomodating the parents. Safety is a top priority. I think the "Green Shirts" are very caring, and do their best to make sure everyone is happy. They are quick to fix any problems that are brought to their attention. It is NOT a competitive camp. The emphasis is on having fun, not winning or losing. Their camper return rate is excellent. Most campers attend for years..from tots to teens, and then choose to become a staff member. It really is a wonderful place!
