Do not choose this camp. Joe Greitzer has kept thousands of dollars from parents since 2020 and still owes most of it now. We actually sent our daughter during the covid year. We signed up for the next summer but ended up choosing another camp in New England and canceled well within the time frame for a full refund. We are still waiting on most of that refund from 2020. We went through the bankruptcy process and have a payment schedule, but he is not adhering to it. He doesn't respond to emails or phone calls and is a year late on our latest payment installment.

Working here in 2021 was great! I really enjoyed my coworkers and we got paid on time throughout the summer. The directors were open about the 2020 struggles they faced and seemed to have improve on them this past summer. The directors were very supportive to counselors from what I saw. I really enjoyed my time at Camp Rim Rock, and grew a lot as a person, rider, and instructor over the summer.

There are always two sides to every story and then the truth. Please look at the reviews and comments prior to the COVID summer to get a more realistic view of camp. Email us at info@camprimrock.com to arrange a time to talk about what happened in 2020. The 2020 campers had the wonderful experience our campers have always had. The uncertainties of COVID caused many families to cancel or not sign up just prior to the beginning of camp. This severely strained our finances.
We are emerging from bankruptcy in a strong financial position. Our families from last summer are returning as are those who canceled last year.
Almost every counselor was paid in full. Some were unclear about bonuses, taxes and time not worked. Those few who are owed money will be paid in full. We had specific issues with some of the counselors who have probably posted the comments. We are happy to address those issues to anybody that would like to reach out.
We will not give specifics online.

I worked here as a counselor this past summer and I along with every other staff member has NOT BEEN FULLY COMPENSATED the money promised in our contracts that we worked incredibly hard for. The camp owner Joe Greitzer has certainly played a role in the financial problems the camp is having and has refused to pay us what we are owed for months now, even after filing a claim with the state of West Virginia. I and a number of other counselors faced mistreatment and were incredibly overworked and underpaid in our time there. Additionally, the camp has just filed for bankruptcy, further indicating that they do not know how to properly manage their money and fairly pay their workers. Do not send your daughters to this camp, and do not work here! There are so many other camps to choose that value their staff and campers more than this one.

Utterly disappointed with Camps mismanagement of financials in 2020. We pre-registered our daughter (and were charged 100% of $4995.95 in Sep 2019) As COVID pandemic rolled in in 2020, we no longer felt safe to send her to the overnight camp and requested a refund. Camp has given us October 2020 as expected refund timeline. In October, they sent an update that the refund date has moved to Dec 31. Now on Dec 10, a new email came advising us that they will be filing for Chapter 11, while still taking registrations for next year. I sympathize with the difficulties that the camp is going through due to Covid, however shifting financial burden to the camper's parents is unacceptable. Bad business practice.
The camp held our money for over 1 year now.

This has to be the worst camp possible. The activities are not fun at all, they don't even have a real lake, so if you like water activities yo will not be getting any. The staff is extremely rude and not very nice to any of the kids. The owners are nothing but disrespectful and abusive. I can not tell you how much we really hate this camp.

I just completed my 2nd year at CRR and it was amazing. I’ve made so many great friends there. The staff are kind and fun, the food is AWESOME, and the cabins are clean (if you keep them that way) and nice. Activities are fun and engaging, and the evening activities are always awesome (especially Singdown!). I wouldn’t trade this camp for anything. Catawba 3 and Cherokee 3 FTW!!

Child attended Camp Rim Rock for 4 years straight. After 4 years the camp knew no more about her then it did on the first day that she attended. In fact, my straight A, all honor class daughter who works part-time as a tutor, referee and student teacher for religious school was described by the camp owner as being "immature and ditzy".

I went to rim rock for 10 years and loved it more each year I went. Each member of the staff was extremely kind and truely cared about each camper. There was never a day I was bored or home sick because there was always a fun activity to do. Their riding program is amazing but be careful your daughter may become addicted to it cause camp rim rock is were my riding addiction started! Some of my most fond memories are from rim rock, I was truely lucky I was able to spend 10 summers there. You will definitely not regret sending your daughter to Camp Rim Rock. Also the food is absolutely amazing!

This summer will be my seventh summer at Camp Rim Rock and my second in the Junior Staff program. Without the six summers I spent at my second home, I would most definitely not be as mature as I am now. Camp has taught me how to live with others in an environment away from home, how to work with all ages, how to be a teacher, how to be myself, and many other positive lessons. I definitely recommend this camp to anyone who is looking for a new perspective on life in a traditional camp environment.

Fantastic camp. Safe, caring and fun. They were happy to help prepare us for camp with tours and information. My girls loved the activities and their counselors. We felt valued as a family. The staff were attentive and my girls had only great feedback - they cannot wait to return. Give them a call, you will not be disappointed.

ok so i went as a 12 year old with my best friend. We came from new york and felt very left out because 3/4 of the girls were from the same school and would only talk to one another. The riding experience was AWFUL!!! I know how to ride and was in the most advanced group the most we did was trot over cross rails where we all could jump over 3 feet from home. Then i stayed for the riding week and we spent more time watching the councilors ride then we did. Plus the councilors were really rude to us and my friend got sent a package that had a bunch of candy in it that she got taken away from her which we understood but then that night we we went to go to the bathroom they were eating it!!! the schedule was also way to planned and felt like school. The showers were only 2 minutes long then u were forced to get out. I do not recceomend this camp to anyone.

I have enjoyed all of my experiences at Camp Rim Rock. I enjoyed it so much as a camper that I went back and completed the Junior Staff program and became a counselor. Without my CRR experiences, my life would never be the same. I feel as though I grew as a person through camp and met some wonderful people there. There is so much do throughout each day and each day is different. some of the activities that make CRR special are Singdown, Stroll to the Knoll, riding the horses in the river, and the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FOOD! I can't imagine life without my 10 summers spent at Rim Rock.

I was a camper at Rim Rock for many years, am now a part of the junior staff program. From a counselor perspective, the staff really cares about the campers, makes sure having the best time, and this definitely shows through to the campers. One of my favorite parts of camp when I was younger was getting to know the counselors and other campers who are all incredibly nice. I am still blind-sided at the amount of kind people here; at an all girls camp, one might expect a lot of drama, but that is not the case at all. Camp is such a non-competitive environment, so no one feels like they have to be the best at everything, and the set schedule allows campers to try new activities that they may never have done before. Cabins are cozy; your cabin mates become your best friends and sisters. The food is great and there's always something for everyone to eat! Camp has been the best experience and I wish I had more than 1000 characters because I cannot say enough good things about Camp Rim Rock!

I registered my daughter for this camp and she became very ill and was hospitalized before camp started and was in treatment through camp. They asked me for medical documentation which I gave them, but unlike other camps she was registered for they would not refund my money. Unlike other camps they expressed no concern for my daughter either. Management would not even return my phone calls. I called many times. I submitted the medical documentation twice because they could not find it, I was told the owner was too busy to return my calls because they were preparing for camp, then I was told he was too busy but would call me after camp was over, and then I was told his phone was not working. Finally I was told they had a no refund policy--if that was true why did they ask for medical documentation? Draw your own conclusions about their treatment of campers and their parents.

I LOVE CRR! This was my 2nd summer, and it seems to get better and better each year. The only bad part was having to go home after only 2 weeks. The counselors are always very nice, and feel like a second mom after a while.:) I think the food was great- especially Taco Tuesday and the ginger cake! The horses are very gentle, and it's so much fun to ride, especially if it's your first time on a horse. I thinkt that Camp Rim Rock is worth every penny, and more! CHEROKEE 7 FTW!!

This camp was AMAZING better than all of the camps that i have been too! I dont know why some people hate it because they really dont! All the girls I see there when I go are Excited or Happy! I love doing the Dance Routines! One problem if you stay here longer you have a better bond with the counseler! I suggest this camp for you! I did a general session for 4 weeks i go to this camp every summer! Soon i will tryouts to be a counseler! I kinda felt sorry for people who did it for 2 weeks because some of them were crying when they were leaving! One word to describe it SUPERB! I will never stop loving this camp! It is way easier when it's just for girls! My bunkmate and I still text and email beacause our parents met, my cabin mates were awesome no snobby people there, we act like were sisters, we make friends with people all over the world! I suggest this camp for you a million times! I Heart you CRR forever and always!

Camp Rim Rock is like my home away from home! This past summer was my 5th year and I never get tired of it! There is a big focus on horseback riding at camp, but I don't ride at all outside of CRR and if you don't like riding or aren't that good (like me- NOT GOOD at all!), you still have a lot of fun. The campers there are so nice- I mean, of course there might be a girl every once and while you aren't terruble fond of, but for the most part everybody is so nice! I have made so many friends at camp. The activities are fun and the food is AMAZING. I have so much fun here every single summer, and the thing I love most about CRR is the sense of community. The camp spirit is just so incredible but so hard to describe. Everyone at camp is there for you and the campwide activities are so fun! There are lots of cheering and singing involved in camp and you really get a strong sense of pride and connection to your unit/cabin. I would recommend Camp Rim Rock to ANYBODY. ~A Sioux Girl :)

the camp is great, if your a camper. if your a counselor... good luck . one hour off a day and one day off a week. sometimes your "hour" off isnt even an hour. also, when it came to getting paid this year (2011) there was a lot of issues.

Camp Rim Rock is amazing! I went for my first year last year, and had the time of my life. I made so many great friends and the horse back riding was AMAZING. I'm a rider myself, and I loved every single minute of it. I wished maybe we rode a little more, but if we did we wouldn't have had so much time for all the other fun stuff. It was amazing. One of the best experiences of my life!!

CRR is a little pricey, but believe me, it's worth it! This summer will be my sixth and I can't wait, it's like a second home. The counselors are all awesome, the camp owner always (and I do mean always) wears a Life Is Good t-shirt, his daughter Jules hangs out with the rest of the campers, and you just make a lot of friends in general! The activities are great, and they include riding horses down the trails and through the river. There is a "color war," newly introduced, which combines traditional ideas with new ones. Please come to camp because it rocks! -A Seneca 1 Girl ;)

My first year i went when i was like 10 and i loved this camp! It was soo fun. I had to skip a year and the next year i thought it was a horrible camp. I liked a few girls in my cabin, a couple of girls were complete snobs. The counclers were okay but they some were not nice towards us and they always punished us if we wer like a few minutes late and it was just, ugh. Also the activities are horrible. You don't get to chose the activities you want to do. Like for me, i liked swiming but i got so tired of it same with every activity except for arts and crafts. The sports are terrible. I do have to say that the food is EXTREMELY GOOD. The facilities are nice except the showers, its usually ice cold water and your shower is literally 2 minutes long. The camp owners daughter is always around the camp and she acts like a bratty princess. I honeslty wanted her to go away. By the time the first week went by i was tired of the camp and i wanted to go home. I would not recomend this camp for u.

I love Camp Rim Rock so much, and I can't understand some of these reviews. Rim Rock is really my second home. I have to admit that some girls are favored by the staff, mostly the girls who stay for the whole entire summer. But other then that, everybody is soooo nice to you. I loved taking dance and horseback riding, and there is an activity for everyone at CRR. It's an amzing camp that I would recommend for everyone!

This camp is amazing! I have been going for 8 years, and am now 14. I think some people seriously need to realize that you're camping, and that you're not going to be staying in a pristine, air conditioned mansion! Get over it, darlings! I love the horses, and the riding is fun, though I'm always in the highest ring so I can't say much for the more beginning riders. Ya know, the counselors can be a little involved with themselves, but once you get to be about 12< you don't really need the counselors to interact with you a ton. It's kind of fun to just laugh with your friends when they get their knickers in a twist. My advice? Go to the specialty camps. Way less boring. I view the general camp as a little more centered on younger campers. Have fun girlsss! <3

I just picked my daughter up this morning from her first General Session at Camp Rim Rock so I can only speak to her experience. She LOVED it. She said the food was awesome and there was plenty to choose from. In fact, she said the ginger cake (with whipped cream) was so good, she ate 3 pieces (she's 8, 60 pounts and skinny as a rail). We only got one letter in 2 weeks because she said she was so busy. There were 11 girls and 12 counselors in her cabin - who can argue with a 1-1 ratio? Many of her counselors were from England, 1 from Poland, etc. They really seemed to take an interest in the campers and my daughter said they were nice. She showered daily (better than home). There were a ton of activities - riding (rings, trails and river), sports (archery, tennis, soccer, softball, etc.), dance, drama/stagecraft and LOTS of singing. The cabins are exactly that - cabins. They're clean and functional as are the bath houses. A new tradition in our family.

I must say I was highly surprised to read these horrible ratings.Camp Rim Rock is an incredible place. The cabins, despite what people have said before me, are VERY well cleaned and bug free. There are sliding glass windows behind screens so that on stormy nights you can close the windows.I would like to point out that counselors need to shower, too,so they wait untill the children are/should be asleep, and shower after lights out. There are at least 9 or 10 conselors in a unit. You don't even do the exact same thing every day.You have time slots for each activity, and what you do each day varies. You can do a diffrent sports, swimming activities ,and art projects every day.You participate in diffrent riding activities every day, too.The conselors do rush your showers, but they have 20 minutes to shower 50 girls in 4 showers, so you can't really blame them.I have gone to this camp for 7 years, and have LOVED it each and every time.CRR is worth the cost and then some. GO CRR!!

I must say it saddens me to read all of these negative comments, however, I cannot say I disagree with them. I was a camper at Rim Rock for 6 years and loved it, so I moved on to the Junior Staff program and finally I was a senior counselor for one summer. I will say after the change in management, the camp began to change drastically. Rim Rock didn't have the same atmosphere it once had. As a counselor I will say alot of the counselors couldn't stand to be around the kids, and would rather be with each other, and certain campers did receive better attention based on how well they knew the owners.I loved Camp Rim Rock and looked forward all year to going back, unfortunately I will never return there and have explored other camp options that are wonderful.I am so sorry not everyone could experience the 'old' Camp Rim Rock the way I got to. The best part about this camp, though, is the delicious food, kitchen n maintenance staff, and the kind women at the front office.(filthy facilities)

I've been going to the performing arts specialty camp for five years, this being my last summer. I absolutely loved this camp, every year getting progessively better. This year, however, was a complete waste of my time and I am glad I am not going back next year. The counselors this year were VERY rude and were extremely strict about EVERYTHING, but mainly being on time (we were at least 10 minutes early for every single activity, even though the counselors would yell at us and threaten to punish us because we were being too slow). Normally at this camp, we do an actual fun play that we get to audition for, memorize a script, and make props for (Alice in wonderland, Aladin, Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, etc) but this year we did a 30 minute skit about 'memories' that had no script, and instead of auditioning for parts people who raised their hand first for that part got it. The lack of adequate counselors was a major factor as to why camp was so horrible, but I wouldn't recommend this camp.

This was the best camp ever. I'm sorry for all the bad reviews. I had the best time ever. Everyone here felt like family. The cabins were wonderful, the food was wonderful, all the horses are wonderful. I went for two weeks of the horse specialty camp and completely forgot about my parents in a good way I mean when I had to leave I just about cried I was so sad. All the consolers were so enthusiastic and nice. They all got into all the activties they felt more like friends than they did conselors. I can't wait for thus summers camp and Im looking forward many many more. I know you'll like this camp don't pay any attention to the bad reviews. They don't know what they're talking about. Everything about CRR is absoulutely wonderful. Best place ever. I LOVE CRR.

The horseback camp was fun - but $1300+ (with fees) for only 6 days (after lunch sun thru after breakfast sat) The camp has an attitude of if you love us come back therefore there is no reason to hear feed back from parents/campers (its not like this at other camps) There are some Alpha dog campers which can be neg. The British counselors are more fun. I know of a few families who gone 1 session and then moved onto other camps. I always thought their needs/wants changed but now I realize its the vibe at the camp. If you don't like the camp don't return, because they aren't going to change. Setting and facilities top notch. (except for the hot water problem - and no they don't want to hear about it or fix it).

Beautiful setting in rural WV. My daughter has gone there for two years and loves it. It is a nurturing environment where kids feel (and are) safe. The kids are genuinely nice-no mean girl atmosphere. The facilities are well maintained. No skimping on food, equipment and care of the horses. Cabins are rustic but clean-a real camp experience There are two nurses on site all the time as health issues are taken seriously unlike other camps which are way too haphazard in this area. Owners are on the premises and involved in daily camp life. Some of the counselors are foreign (often from England) and the girls love them. Some girls (and counselors) probably do get homesick and don't have a good experience. Girls who are not too worldly or jaded (very affluent group of kids)will love the activities . The horseback riding program is excellent and the girls get a lesson and either a trail ride or a river ride each day in the riding intensive program. My daughter can't wait to return

My daughter attended Rim Rock twice (as a 7 yr old & 8). The first yr. was her first overnight camp experience & she did not complain or know what to expect. She didn't bring that much info. home to me. I gathered what I could from questions. 1st yr. basically no structured sports. The 2nd yr. she received very little riding time due to rain & storms; yet when the weather would clear riding was not rescheduled. The counselors would hang out in the bathrooms at night after they thought the girls were asleep leaving the children completely unsupervised. As other parents stated, the cabins are poorly lit and dirty. They give the girls less than 5 min to shower, rushing them, my daughter said only the first cabin to shower had hot water. Crafts are also lame as previously stated by other parents. Please send your child someplace else for the same amount of money. My child had the worst 3 weeks of her life at this place . . . she still is pissed over it.

My daughter loved being there in 2006. However, when she had to cancel her visit in 2007, the camp refused to refund, or even discuss the issue, even though a medical crisis caused the canellation and was confirmed by our physician. The director has still refused to respond in writing to my requests, and told me he is running a business and I am not entitled to a refund. Although he and his staff know my daughter from the 2006 camp, they have expressed no concern or compassion for her crisis. I could never recommend this place

I went to this camp three years, but only because it was tradition to go with my best friend who moved away. The programmed activities are boring and too structured. Every day is the same. The only activities arfe horseback-riding, sports, arts and crafts, aquatics, and performing arts. and you do four of those activities (switching off between sports and arts and crafts) EVERY SINGLE DAY. However, the evening after-dinner activities(making smores, singdown, picnics, hoedowns) are EXTREMELY FUN , and the friendships you get are great and last a lifetime. Another bad thing is that there is too much emphasis on being on time and being safe. A couple years ago they even banned FLIP FLOPS because we might "stub our toes." Even though the evening activities and friendships are good, you can have that at any camp. Don't waste your money on this camp.

This camp is amazing, if you are not a serious equestrian there are other opportunities for your talents to shine, but if you are a serious equeatrian this is a great opportunity. It is so much fun.

this was a bad camp in my opinion. the counselors didnt help much at all. i think it was too structured. they had a schedule for every thing. bad riding program. very boring.

Kind and reassuring staff, Excellent facilities, I go without a friend and I leave with the memory of 300 friends. It is so great, the price seems EXTREMELY low. It is a positively life changing expierence. 7 Years (and counting) of an amazing, fantastic, Super, and any other word that means "The best expierence of my life". Even the food is great! A girl's life is incomplete if they haven't gone to camp Rimrock.

I really loved this camp! I went for the concentrated riding session. You don't get as much time in the saddle as you would want, but there are so many other fun activities. The facilities are great, and the staff is pretty good. The price I thought was a bit expensive at first, but I came home and it was worth every cent. I plan to go back to CRR for years to come!

I went there for the intensive riding session, being a serious equestrian and was overall dissappointed in the amount of riding provided for the special session. The counslers in my cabin expressed their distaste for the camp experience several times and often seemed to be 'put out' if we asked for help. The Nursing facilities were supurb however, and the facilities in general were well maintained and breathtaking. The horses were very well taken care of and they were constantly introducing new basketball courts and games for during your free time. One of my favorite spots was the pool where you could sit(or swim)and watch the horses graze a few feet away.I think it was a good experience but for my age group(I was 16) it was a little to slow for me. Younger kids will love it though.

My daughter's been to this camp for 2 years in a row and has loved it both times. They have excellent counsellors, at least for the youngest camps (she was age 7 and 8), and keep the kids busy, from the time you drop them off until you pick them up. The site is beautiful. The cabins are a bit rustic. The highlight for her was the 80 or so horses and the opportunity to learn to ride.
