1/17/14   5     5     5     5     5   I used to go her for camp when I was little and this year I'm coming back as a CIT. I'm very excited to be coming back to my second home. I know a lot of girls aren't fond of the rules, but, the thing is, they're there for a reason. Short showers conserve water and let everyone get a chance to clean up, Meal seating helps create a friendly atmosphere where everyone from different camp programs get to know each other.Yes it may be hard not sitting with your friends or not being able to take long showers but this is camp. Enjoy meeting new people and enjoy the dirt on your skin. Enjoy swimming in the lake, riding the horses, the arts and crafts, enjoy the BIFFY Balls (Do they still do those?) Enjoy your summer because, believe me, these memories will stay with you for years to come. RID: 46597
Click to report rating    10/12/12   5     5     5     5     5   I love Menzies so so so much!! It's my favorite place in the world and my true home :) I was a camper for 5 years, a CIT for 3, and this upcoming summer will be my second on staff :) camp is a fantastic place for girls to learn more about themselves and make friends for life! I recommend the CIT program for older girls it helps you learn lots of valuable leadership skills and how to deal with children. I would be a different personif not for camp and I hope many other girls find the magic I did there :) - Aster RID: 42870
Click to report rating    8/19/12   5     4     5     5     5   I was a CIT, nd there are so many rules becuase the camp is in the middle of nowhere, the nearest hospital is like an hour away. Not everyone agrees with the rules, but we try to include everyone, not everyone came with friends, many years I didn't. So that is why the dining hall is set up like that. And the showers are short so the campers don't take three hours to do showers, it take one or two hours of unit time already! The counsulars and CITs are super nice and always willing to lend an ear. Click to report rating    8/12/12   2     5     2     1     1   One campfire the cunselors skits went way over the heads of the young children in attendance. The counselors lacked energy and failed to do any group bonding experience or even introduce campers within our Unit. Hoped to spend quality time with my daughter but also hoped to see her branch out, make some friends and have some great experiences. Horse time, Zumba, naturalist all GREAT. Lifeguards very unprofessional--watched them watch each other rather than the water-failed to do a final buddy check when capers exited the water. Staff spent time making lanyards, rather than taking time to do activites with the kids. The craft director put out tubs on the tables and told girls to make a frame, then sat 20 feet away and worked on something else. She never got up to help them even if they asked for something. When concerns brought to attention of director excuses were made-The camp COULD be GREAT-with closer supervision of staff. RID: 42338

Click to report rating    3/21/11   5     4     5     5     5   I love Menzies! Ive been there since second grade! This year im doing BXtreme. I would rather sleep in a tent then a cabin because of this. People who rate Menzies as a bad camp is because they havent been there before. And im staying there for eight days this year! RID: 35387

Click to report rating    6/12/10   5     5     5     5     5   This is the best camp ever!I'm going 4 times this year cuz it rocks! I think people who give this camp a bad rating were probably in a bad mood cuz they are wrong! Staff are nice and activities are endless fun! RID: 32971
Click to report rating    6/9/10   5     5     5     5     5   Awesome.. My Troop of 15 and 6 adults went to help open camp .. We had a blast even though we had to hike up the hill and sleep in tents.. we still had an absolute blast and my girls didn't want to come home. RID: 32954
Click to report rating    3/3/10   4     4     5     5     5   I was a camper here as a child, I liked it so much I went back for all three years of the CIT program. I really enjoy the tripping programs that Camp Menzie offers! The location is beautiful and it has canoeing on site. It also offers a horseback ride to all campers, regaurdless of program. I would recomend it for first time campers, girls looking for adventurous trips, and for CITs. RID: 32271
Click to report rating    2/5/10   2     3     3     2     4   My first year was great, I did the dance session. My second year I did the horse one and it was horrible. 1. The Counselors are selfish (Or the ones I had)Always complained, and it got annoying after a long time (And I'm only ten!). 2. There are a lot of rules and sometimes its just "Role My eyes",Like when you eat you can't be by your friends (Well I did half the time), and when your in your cabin, no talking! I mean come ON! I read some of the other comments about the asthma, and they do let you bring it, but only in the "Patch N Go", (Camps Little Hospital". I got homesick, and cried myself to sleep at least 4 out of 6 days. There was drama too. But the most thing that irritated me was, that we didn't even do much, 1 time we were suppost to go swimming, but another group went, and for a horse one, THEY ONLY LET YOU RIDE FOR 2 HOURS! Ok, so my overall rate is a 6 out of 10. RID: 32094
Click to report rating    10/27/09   5     5     5     5     5   I was a CIT at this camp last year and would like to defend it from some of the other reviews. Most of the girls who come to this camp are indeed girl scouts but that does not mean that your daughter will be discriminated against if she is not a member. This camp is designed to show girls what the outdoor life is all about so those who complain about the weather, get over it. your outside, CAMPING. Enjoy the rain. The activities are amazing from horseback riding to canoeing, the idea behind the seating at meals is so the girls who DID come alone have a chance to make new friends. i love this camp and have had some of the best times of my life here. Each session varies, so dont give up. i am not a girl scout anymore but i will indeed be returning. oh and the names? They're for fun, enjoy it. -Pascal :) RID: 31456
Click to report rating    7/17/09   5     4     4     5     5   I was a CIT at Menzies a few years back and it was one of the best summers I've ever had. The staff members were great and I became great friends with the other girls in my unit. Menzies was like a second home to me, I am so glad I went. RID: 30440
Click to report rating    5/27/09   5     4     5     4     5   I went there for as long as I could and loved every minute of it. The staff members were much nicer than those of other camps I had attended previously. I had wanted to be a counselor but other opportunities arose, but I still hold many memories and experiences from there very close to my heart. RID: 29865
Click to report rating    11/15/08   5     5     5     5     5   i am a CIT [counselor in training] at menzies and i LOVE it there. we do try to make sure the girls have a good time and i love love love all the counselors there. we sing songs, some older girls dont care for that but over all i think everybody has a good time. honestly i cried when i had to leave last year because i got to be there for almost a month it is really a reat experience if you WANT it to be. RID: 27522
Click to report rating    4/18/08   3     2     3     1     2   Um, while the staff was friendly and the activities varied greatly... it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Perhaps it was because I was 10 and had never been away from home. But I found that unless you have the "girl scout spirit", you're very unwelcome. I had never been in girl scouts, and the counselors had weird names like "horseshoe" and "gypsy". ok...? I had asthma, wasn't allowed to keep my inhaler with me, so I had to walk ~quarter mile to do my nightly preventative, and by the time I walked back, I couldn't breathe-and the girls were already 1/2 asleep so they yelled at me to shut up. Thank God it was only 4 days because I cried myself to sleep every night. Oh, and we only were allowed a single 2 minute shower in 4 days! Good for some people, definitely horrible for others. Click to report rating    2/29/08   4     4     5     4     3   My daughter and I did a "Two of Us" camp experience. You go with your child and have a camp experience together. The idea is the next year she will feel comfortable going alone. However do be prepared to follow a lot of rules. They do focus on safety and the best way to ensure that your daughter will follow the rules next year when you are not with her is to obey them while you are there together, even if you yourself might be a little more lenient. Overall, we very much enjoyed the variety of activities offered and the encouraging atmosphere. I do agree that you should be prepared to get dirty and get involved if you want to make the most of your adventure. My daughter made new friends, tried new activities, and gained more experience taking care of herself and her surroundings. RID: 20793
Click to report rating    5/11/07   5     4     5     5     5   I love Camp Menzies with all my heart. It's an amazing magical place. The staff really do care about the girls, in my 9 years of being a camper I've only had 1 not-so-great counselor. The other 25 or so were great! I love the food and the fun. The lake is colder than anything at the beginning of summer, but it's hotter than anything out so it doesn't matter. One last note, the atmosphere at camp is fun and friendly, but it's also what you make it. If you insist on not meeting new people or not trying the food or being a princess, you won't have fun. Get dirty, realize you're in a forest, and have a great time. You'll be home in a week if you don't like it anyway. (but you'll probably love it) ^_^ RID: 10734
Click to report rating    2/5/07   1     1     1     1     1   i hate it!!! worst place ever!!! nvr want to go there again!!!! they made me sleep in the rain w/ out a tent and when we got to go back in our tents there was a leek in the roof above my bed (if u want to call it a bed) and the horse through me off!!!! when we eat you cant even eat with your friends they want you to make new friends but were not loners we have friends and DONT NEED TO MAKE NEW ONES!!! i hate it deeply and think anyone who likes it must be on something or someone payed them money but there probobly on somethng cuz i wouldnt even say it is fun for 100 $$ it is that horrable if u go you will waste your time and $$ i would rather die it is that horrible jump off a clif anything as long as i dont have to go back! and that construction thing ... who wants to build houses for other people in a hell hole???? i hate it and if u go u suck! RID: 7555
