They emailed back and said they would refund us (minus deposit). They never did. They refuse to respond to our calls or emails now. They never answer their phone. Reported to Attorney General. They don't respond to the Attorney General either. Terrible management. RUN FROM THIS CAMP. RID: 53937
Click to report rating    8/26/19   5     4     5     5     5   I have been attending Mother Daughter week at Circle R for 16 years. I will keep going as long as I can. The staff works hard and keeps the kids and the mom's happy. RID: 52856
Click to report rating    8/19/19   5     4     5     5     5   Young energetic staff that are dedicated to kids positive experience. Safety first attitude that is translated to kids. Owners and son Jake are incredibly kind and invested in kids having a fun and memorable time at Circle R. We sent our foster child to Circle R one week camp. She has been diagnosed with PTSD. She came home with new friends and an air of calmness. Thank you Jack and all of your wonderful staff. RID: 52836

Click to report rating    7/31/17   4     1     5     1     3   As a parent, I have many concerns with Circle R Ranch. The condition of the buildings is not "rustic", it is unsafe. The counselors are kids themselves (17 year olds watching 17 year olds) and there is a general lack of adult supervision. I think a child go walk away and it would be hours until it was noticed. I would take a real look before sending your child. They have had issues in the past (A little Google search for Circle R Ranch and Todd County). They are good people, but this is not how you run a camp. RID: 51146
Click to report rating    6/5/17   5     5     5     5     5   THIS CAMP IS AMAZING!!! i for one being a camper there have been well cared for and have had great times meeting new friends and riding amazing tempered horses. they have good food that i will eat anytime there have fantastic activities to do when you are not riding and have a hour to rest right after riding so your refreshed for the rest of the day i give this camp a 10/10 because in Minnesota there is nothing else like it and it is unique because they teach you several things about horses and can help your riding i highly suggest sending your kids here it is a rustic environment and a perfect place to get your kids away from electronics and for them to enjoy being outside. all people are welcome at Circle r. I love this camp!!! RID: 50796
Click to report rating    6/20/16   5     5     5     5     5   This was the best summer camp ever. You got to ride horses all day and it was very clean. The horses were not in the best care because they have to many. The camp was fun and cheep too. I would come back here every day of my life. It was a little out dated but now all the horse camps are too childish or millions of dollars. I would send me and my kids here and it was very safe. I would come back here again! RID: 49685
Click to report rating    8/15/15   4     3     5     5     5   I just finished my 3rd summer at circle r. It is the only camp I choose to attend all summer. You should definitely go if you not only enjoy riding horses, but want to learn about them, experience country life, and make great friends. The facilities are only what you can expect from a ranch. The worst complaints you could have would be smelly water and dirty facilities. There is a huge array of horses and an analysis is performed before receiving a horse assignment. There are a ton of afternoon activities ad opportunities to relax, as well as traditions kept for 46 years. The meals and staff are great. All I can say is don't judge a book by it's cover. If you send a kid here, they will have fun. RID: 49074
Click to report rating    10/20/14   5     4     5     5     5   Small town atmosphere - beautiful setting, lots of counselors from all over the country that return year after year. Barn dance to end the week - good fun. RID: 48088
Click to report rating    7/29/14   2     1     3     3     1   Camp is falling apart and has not been cleaned in a very long time. On the day we checked in the floor in the bunk house was disgusting, not swept and sticky from the last campers. The real kicker was it was 90 outside and 89 inside. How are people suppose to sleep? They have an air conditioner, and when I asked when it would be turned on they said it was only turned on when needed. Apparently it needs to hit 100 before that happens. As I put the sheets on my daughters bed sweat dripped from my head. I truly didn't want to leave her, however she insisted. They should also adjust the hours of sleep the camper gets by their age. 11:00 to 6:30 is not enough when you are outside all day long. We will NOT be going back. RID: 47725
Click to report rating    7/20/14   4     3     4     3     3   Sure, it was a little farm-y, a little dirt and there were too many horses for the facility. I didn't mind that. The thing I minded was the fact that, it being my first year, everybody knew each other and even the counselor favored the more popular girls. Because I hadn't been there since the age of seven, I didn't fit in. I had an okay time, but I'm not going back. Just wanted to let people know. RID: 47649
Click to report rating    3/21/14   5     4     5     5     5   This camp is really getting the true camp experience. They have so many awesome horses for all the different age groups and I can say as a mom who has been around horses her whole life some of the previous comments are very invalid. I am proud to send my kid here and hope she will become a counselor one day herself! The staff is top notch. And the kids are always busy or relaxing which is never a bad thing. I reccomend this camp for all parents and can't wait to visit again this summer. RID: 47067
Click to report rating    8/30/13   3     1     1     1     1   DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE! i went once for a week, and it was terrible! The horses are very badly cared for. A few examples are: their hooves are never picked or trimmed. Some horses have to be groomed with a metal curry comb, which is only for winter coats (it hurts them!). Their halters are always on in the field (It could get caught on something, and the metal attracts lightning) Plus, they also have kittens their- in a cage too small for them, plus they are never allowed to get any exercise! In the afternoon you can do bareback riding, but when it is hot, we go to the beach instead of afternoon activities. Still, two or three horses are left in a hot pasture with no water! Another time, the horses were exhausted, and i could barely get my horse to walk, the counselor mad us canter again. The ceiling in the dorms (or at least in South) are slanted, and the person on the top bunk has to be careful when they wake up not to hit their head! Oh, and the food their is very sugary. Click to report rating    8/20/13   3     2     3     2     2   Dropping my 9 year old daughter off at an all girls week and seeing young teenage boys as 'counselors' was the first red flag. Her not being able to take a shower because the water stunk so bad and had to buy her own water all week were just a few things I learned when she came home. The room she picked to stay in had garbage from the week before - and during the week she stayed there, her 'staff member's alarm went off and it was my daughters duty to wake the house up. Keep in mind this was her first year there. The kids all wake up early and are fed well but on the 'dance night' my daughter and her 9 year old roommates asked to go to bed at 10 as they were tired and were told 'no'- not until the dance is done'. They had to stay up until 12am with the 16 year olds. My daughter won this week at camp at school- so my review is a little less harsh then if I would have paid for the week. Needless to say - she came home and does not want to go back. RID: 45782
Click to report rating    6/15/13   5     3     4     4     5   This summer was my 4th year at circle r, and I love it! Words cannot describe how great the atmosphere is. Sure the bathrooms are a little gross but grow a pair. And the showers are fine! Only thing wrong is MAYBE the smell of the well water. But it's very subtle and nothing to whine about. RID: 44777
Click to report rating    4/17/13   3     2     4     4     5   Earthy is an understatement. My daughter attended this camp a couple of years ago and the only word I would use to describe the barracks and bathrooms are filthy and disgusting. She had attended horse camps before, so I was certainly not expecting hotel digs, but this was pretty gross, carpets looked like they had NEVER been vacuumed much less shampooed, and the sinks and showers were broken and caked with crud. She also felt that there were too many horses for the facility and that they were not all well cared for. That being said, the riding was good and the owner and staff very nice. One other mother was so turned off by filth that she asked for her money back and they promptly refunded it. RID: 44287
Click to report rating    3/27/13   5     3     5     5     5   As others have mentioned, the facilities are a little run down but they have been updating over the last couple summers. Last summer there was a new deck around the barn, new paint and they were in the process of re-roofing. My kids had a blast and are going for 2 weeks this year. The staff were great and they actually have already posted mini profiles of all of their staff on their Facebook page this year. Let me tell you - that makes my comfort level go way up especially when I see some of my kids favorite counselors going back again this summer! This is a must for all kids - especially if they absolutely love horses!!! RID: 44103
Click to report rating    7/14/12   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp. I feel like its my home away from home, and having tried many camps this is most deffinatly the best. We spend so much time with the horses, and everyone is a family. RID: 41707
5/10/12   5     4     5     5     5   Was a great value and my daughter and son both had a lot of fun. It is very "farm dirty" as I like to call it, but the kids love it there and the staff, food, and animals are all great. I highly recommend! RID: 41012
Click to report rating    3/19/11   5     3     5     4     4   This camp is true to its description, rustic. The kids who come back year after year do not come back because they want top notch buildings; rather, they come back because it is truly a wonderful experience and chance to get away from the trials and tribulations of teenage life in the city. It is open skies and fresh air, tinged with the smells of a real, working ranch. The horses are wonderful, and are placed very well by level of experience. It is extremely rare that any child is given a horse that is beyond their riding ability. Staff take on the horses who present problems and school them in their bad habits; but no staff member is asked to ride a horse they do not feel comfortable on. The entire ranch's atmosphere is that of a family. RID: 35376
