Click to report rating    4/17/14   5     4     5     5     5   My children have attended sunshine for the last three years. This is a camp where the staff are always friendly and more importantly interact with the children instead of just watching them. My children's counselors have been school teachers or elementary education majors which gives me a sense of relief because these people have dedicated their lives to children and I know that they care and are in safe hands. Sunshine has received 100% compliant inspection's form the State of Maryland for the last three years. They have also been voted Carroll's Best Summer Camp for as long as we've been there. I have looked at other camps for my children in the past and can tell you that Sunshine is the best value for the money. I recently dropped my registration off for this year and noticed that the facilities are being completely renovated. My children cannot wait to get back there. I would highly recommend this camp.      7/18/13   1     4     2     2     2   I wish we had read these comments prior to sending our son to this camp. Danielle Fleegle, the owner, is very rude and couldn't care less about the parents or children. We signed our child up for a total of 4 weeks. There were issues with registration, the snack shack, and the owner being completely nasty. They couldn't find the money that we had provided for our son to use the snack shack. It wasn't until I went to the office that they discovered the money in their file. When our nanny and my wife inquired about a picnic they were having and what we should bring Danielle got very nasty. To the point that she hung up on my wife. When my wife called back she told my wife that she was wasting her time and that she was going to kick our son out of the camp. We saved her the trouble and removed him ourselves, it wasn't worth the non-fundable money we lost to keep our child in that environment. The counselers are nothing more than babysitters, little interaction with the kids. RID: 45220

Click to report rating    5/15/13   5     5     5     5     5   Love Sunshine! I was saddened to hear about the false comments on this site, I have two foster children that social services recommended this camp to me. The owner and staff welcomed us with open arms. It has been one of the most positive experiences these children have ever had in their lives. This is their fourth year returning. The camp has had such a positive impact on their lives and I have recommended this camp to several family members and friends since we have been attending, and all have been very satisfied. Click to report rating    5/15/13   5     5     5     5     5   I would absolutely recommend this camp to families. Do not go off negative with negative energy. This is a disgruntled parent who did not get their way. This is my children's 3rd summer with Sunshine. the Directors staff and owners go out of their way to make us all feel like family. My kids start talking about returning right after Christmas! So much they offer and so pleased with every aspect! See you in June, Sunshine!! RID: 44483
Click to report rating    5/15/13   5     5     5     5     5   Both of my children went to Sunshine camp last summer and absolutely loved it. When I asked them what their favorite memory was, here is what they had to say: My daughter said she loved Fun Friday's with all the special guest and yummy cheeseburgers. Her favorite Friday was when she got to dunk her mom in the dunk tank! My younger child stated "everything was fun and I want to go back this summer"! :) ~ Jennifer D. / April 2013 RID: 44481
Click to report rating    3/18/13   2     2     3     1     4   I sent my kids there for the full length of their summer vacation last year. Mistake. They started off the summer excited to go, but by the end they were asking me to not send them back there again. There is no effort made by the counselors to bring the kids together to bond. The kids are on their own to find a group, so if your child is shy then they are likely to struggle to make friends. They are outside ALL day- rain, sweltering heat, etc. They have indoor facilities available, but will not allow the older kids to use them, even if it's pouring down rain. When I questioned the staff about this, they said they love being in the rain. Not according to my daughter who came to me at the end of the day drenched and shivering. Not fun. The women who runs the front desk can be quite nasty and unfriendly. The owner was also unfriendly and seems disinterested in pleasing the parents. It's such a shame. High hopes for a great summer experience dashed. RID: 44011
Click to report rating    3/15/13   1     1     1     1     1   When I called to get information I had to leave a message on a machine. No one called back. When I called several days later someone answered and was extremely rude and unprofessional. In fact she was very defensive and told me to go somewhere else for summer camp and she hung up on me. No wonder why there are so many bad reviews. I am a school administrator and that is the worst Custer service I have ever received from a place that is supposed to be caring for children. RID: 43988

2/22/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been sending my son to this camp for the last 4 years and have never been anything but completely satisfied with my sons care and supervision. He looks forward each year to returning. There are numerous fun activities for him to do and he is never bored. I have stopped in on occasion (un-announced) to have lunch with him and not only was I greeted by a friendly staff member, I was also asked for my ID! I feel my son is safe and well cared for there and he also has a great time. I would not hesistate to recommend this camp to my many family and friends. Don't let one disgruntled poster sway your opinion. They have been voted the #1 camp in carroll county for over 10 years. HUNDREDS of families return year after year, so how could they all be wrong? I look forward to sending my son again this year and look forward to seeing all the wonderful staff & owners again! RID: 40375

Click to report rating    2/15/12   5     5     5     5     5   Sunshine sponsors many families that are in hardship including mine last summer. My husband and I both lost our jobs right before the summer and the owner gave both my kids a full scholarship for the whole summer full time without expecting any payment in return. My kids love the camp and are always happy and tired at the end of the day! I feel that the owner and staff run a fantastic program. The owner is a strong business women and very fair. My kids will return this year again for their 5th year and cannot wait! RID: 40336

2/14/12   1     3     3     1     1   BEWARE! I agree with all the other previous posts. My child attended during summer of 2011 and no one knew her by name by the end of the summer. They also have an account you can put money in, which they urge you to put $3 a day. If the money isn't used they claim they will reimburse. We missed two weeks because of family emergancies and were due a refund which we requested in writing, not to mention she didn't use even close to $3 a day. We never received any reimbursement, despite MANY attempts to collect. No one returns calls, replies to emails. Pretty sad that you have to steal from families that pay you up front for the whole summer. I refuse to give my hard earned money to a dishonest business. There are a TON of kids here, and teenagers run the camp, and there is no protection from bad weather or heat - except an open sided pavilion. Don't waste your $$! Don't belive me? Just show up in the middle of they day unexpected. RID: 40333
Click to report rating    1/25/12   2     1     2     1     1   Staff during the summer are teenagers. They are very rude. The one that sits right in the front to greet you could care less if you dropped your child or not. They are not very attentive to the children in their care. They let them wander from their care and half the time are unsure where they are at. During the summer - even on the extremely hot days, the kids are outside, the only form of shade is a pavilion. The activities are posted, but they do not follow the schedule. There were times when horseback riding was listed and my daughter brought her gear (long pants and boots) only to find out it was cancelled. They would reschedule it for another day and not tell my daughter or I and --then she would not be able to participate because she was unprepared. There is no such thing as personal attention. I paid for the whole summer ---and there are no refunds. My children were begging me to take them somewhere else. Cost is not worth the headaches involved with this camp. RID: 40193
Click to report rating    11/5/11   1     3     3     1     2   The staff is full of inexperienced kids themselves. Suspect it's cheaper labor. The owner, Danielle Fleegle, is very defensive when questioned. She doesn't respond to emails. The facilities are average, nothing special. Not maintained really. Daily activities are not what you might expect from reading their webpage or reading their literature or taking their open house tour. My kid has been enrolled for 3 years. Quality has gone down dramatically. This was the last year for our child, can't really take it anymore. Personal attention...well, there is none. Monetary value is poor. For a few hundred bucks a week, I guess you get what you pay for. They nickel and dime you for any of the "extra" activities. It's really just a child sitting service disguised as a day camp. My kid is worth more than that. RID: 37218
Click to report rating    8/6/11   2     3     2     1     1   The owner of this camp should be in another type of business. She is hostile towards parents & argumentive. RID: 36626
Click to report rating    2/1/11   1     1     1     1     1   AVOID THIS CAMP!Not enough staff, out of compliance on MANY counts during last unannounced licensing visit as well.An adult can walk onto the grounds and explore the entire place for several minutes without being questioned by ANYONE.Children are free to roam over 2+ acres of land while only one or two young adults supervise from a distance while texting and emailing on their cell phones. In the winter, your child will do nothing but watch tv.They have a clear window that children climb onto shakey chairs to stand on and paint while the "caretaker" sits on the couch watching cartoons with other children. There is little to no individual attention given to the children either. You are charged at flat rate per week whether your child attends everyday or not,but if they attend the full day during the school year, you are charged extra on top of regular tuition which must be paid separately and up front.their parking area isn't paved making conditions for playing children very unsafe as well.
