My mother attended Kickapoo shortly after the Fords began operating the kamp in Kerrville. The Fords generously allowed my mother to attend kamp on scholarship. I became a kamper in the 1970’s and a kounselor in the 1980’s. I loved the time I spent at Kickapoo, and I’m glad to see the traditions continue.

I think that Kickapoo is just an outstanding place, where everyone is one big happy family. The counselors are so kind and all the activities are fun. I think it’s just an amazing place.

My girls would talk about kamp all year long and couldn't wait to go back. The started when they were 7 & 8 and went every year until they aged out. They are now counselors at kamp and still look forward to it every year!

Our daughter talks about Kickapoo year-round and can't wait to get back to her happiest place on earth. The counselors here are truly the best of the best. They are hand-picked college girls who genuinely understand the importance of being good role models. They are kind to each and every girl; they are lively and fun; they use clean language and model clean living; they are wholesome and friendly. Basically, the counselors are every good thing you would want in a role model for your child. My daughter loves that Kickapoo offers water skiing--one of the only camps which does. The giant water slide & the water blob are also super-fun! The food is delicious and the meals are served family-style. The 24-hour first aid attendant is a gem! Cabins are clean & comfortable. The girls learn responsibility, leadership, teamwork, & independence in a loving, supportive environment. Everything about Kickapoo exudes warmth & love! We feel so blessed to have found this camp! Five stars in every way

I just dropped off my daughter for her 4th year at Kickapoo Kamp. We keep going back because Kickapoo offers her a very beautiful setting, many activities (no they are not extreme sports) and girl comradery that is second to none. It's a family owned and run kamp that keeps enrollment to around 110 girls per session. This is key. The girls all know each other and are able to teach/learn the wonderful Kickapoo traditions that have been passed down for over 90 years. According to my daughter NOBODY is left out. No there is no AC and granite counters in the bathroom and they require girls keep showers to something like 3 minutes but my daughter has never complained. Most of the counselors attended Kickapoo and all of them attend college. No fancy cabins and facilities but instead a solid staff that focuses on fun, inclusion, food and good old fashion kamp traditions. Excellent job owners!

My daughter had an awesome time! No complaints!!She enjoyed all of the activities especially the horseback riding and water skiing. The counselors were great role models and friends to the younger girls. It really helped to build her self confidence and expose her to different girls from around the country. Truly a welcoming atmosphere with tons of fun. She went to the one week session to get acquainted but this year its a full two week session. The Cherokee/Choctaw competitions were very exciting and brought out her competitive nature. A great experience, for sure!!

My daughter is in her 2nd year at Kickapoo and we have also attended Mother Daughter weekends. MD wkend is a great opportunity to visit the camp and meet the staff up close. When my daughter returned for the summer she already felt at home. I love the small size (110 girls) of the camp as it allows girls of all ages and the counselors to really get to socialize and know one another. The camp traditions and closing ceremony are special and the girls love it. Kickapoo has helped my daughter feel more self assured and independent. Her self esteem always gets a boost from her term at camp. Laura Hodges and her staff are always available to speak with you. The camp facilities are typical of a camp of its age. While not fancy, the girls have everything they need, most importantly a safe and nurturing environment. My other child attended a larger camp this year and while it had newer facilities, the personal attention paled in comparison to Kickapoo.

I went to Kickapoo starting in year 1949. Went every year and my last year was as a counselor in year 1961. I learned life lessons at this camp that I have used all my life even now as old as I am. My granddaughter is now going there and absolutely has loved it for the past 7 years and is going back again this summer- year 2013. I might add that it is the staff and the real camping experience that makes this a fun and learning experience and has through the years.

My daughters have been going to Kickapoo for 7 years since the youngest had just completed 2nd grade. Cannot say enough good things about this camp! The Mother/Daughter weekend allowed us to experience it before the girls went to camp on their own and I knew immediately this was a camp they would attend forever. Many past campers went on to be counselors, send their own daughters to camp and reunite at Mother/Daughter weekends. Only 100 girls means lots of personal attention. Girls choose their own classes and take part in meaningful traditions. Each time I pick them up they beg me to stay for the whole summer. Food is amazing! Counselors are all college aged girls (most were previous campers) with patience and compassion and serve as great role models. I'm a VERY protective mother and researched this camp, called referrals and have been extremely happy. A gem of a camp in Kerrville, TX.

Good camp but the overt pressure to sign up each year (special recognition for multi year attendees, younger sisters, girls whose parents have already signed them up for the following year) is nauseating

I just finished my 8th and last year as a camper. My 4 sisters and I go every year and it has been an amazing experience. We are closer and nicer to each other because of camp. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people at kickapoo. I remember my first year I was really shy but still made amazing friends that I talk to weakly on skype. It truly has been a life changing experience. My friends at home talk about how they cry when they get dropped off at camp but I always cry when I have to leave. Kamp is the first place I ever sang in a talent show and now I am competing with solos! I look back on camp and can't believe how much it has changed me. War Canoe helped me to work as a team and work hard for something you want. I love this camp and can't wait to go back next year. The best thing about the camp is that they mix ages so the young ones have role models and the older ones work hard to be good role models and also have the councilors as role models.

My daughter loved it! Very impressed with the counselors. All counselors attend college and they attend all over the country. They are diverse in their talents and interests. The staff is fantastic. This is a family run camp that has been operating for generations. Campers are not allowed to bring phones or media other than music and my 13 year old didn't miss it one bit! Photos are posted online every day with a summary of all the wonderful things the girls are doing so as a parent, you see that your daughter is having fun and is happy and that is very reassuring. My daughter is already signed up for next year.

No slick marketing here and I really appreciated finding a wholesome camp that doesn't try to put on a dog and pony show to lure campers. I couldn't believe how many families we met whose mothers and grandmothers attended Kickapoo. They're still singing the same songs. We are a conservative Christian family and I cannot tell you how pleased we were with this experience for our daughter. The counselors were smart, kind college girls. My picky daughter even enjoyed the food. By the week's end, she was no longer squeamish about flies and lizards. She grew exponentially. This summer she heads back for a two week session. We highly recommend the horseback riding program. It's one of the best we've seen. Overall, I cannot think of anything I would change. My daughter mentions camp at least weekly. It made an enormous impact on her confidence and independence. Five stars.
