This was my son's first overnight camp and it was exceptional! He has attended day camp before near where we live, but struggled to participate and stay socially engaged. Summer L.I.F.E gave him a completely different perspective on camp - he gained confidence and had fun! In most social situations he will remember faces but not names - after Summer L.I.F.E he came home not only remembering the names and faces of campers and counselors but their individual personalities as well! The counselors were fantastic and really care deeply about what they are doing - they are very inspiring! Thanks so much to the entire staff of Summer L.I.F.E and to the administration of the Vanguard School as well.

This is the second year my son has attended and I really can't say enough about what this camp means to us or what it has done for him. The staff, activities, the personal attention is excellent. I feel completely at ease leaving him here and he looks forward to camp and seeing his friends....it has made a huge impact on his life and has given him some independence....we look forward to trying the off season weekend camps as well!

This was my son's first time attending the day camp Camp Summer L.I.F.E. He loved it! He enjoyed getting to choose what activities he participated in such as swimming, mini-golf, horseback riding and his favorite, cooking! Communication about what happened during camp was provided each day. My son will definitely be back next year!

This was my son's first overnight camp experience. I cannot say enough about the camp and the staff. When you have a child with special needs, you want people who would take care of them like its' their own child. They did exactly this. From the medications to the night time concerns, they covered it all. While my son has limited language, I think he throughly enjoyed the experience and staff. I only sent my son for one week over night and one week day camp. It's my plan to do all overnight next year and pray that Holly will extend the camp for three weeks! ;-) My son doesn't have a lot of playdates and struggles with communication and handling new situations. I cannot believe how wonderful this place was/is. We are blessed to have these angels among us. Thank you.

This was my son's second time with Summer Matters. He could not say enough good things about his experience at the camp this summer. From the activities to the staff to the amount of new friends he made it was all positive. He has maintained contact with a number of new kids and for him expanding his personal network is critical from a social standpoint. I highly recommend the Summer Matters programming to anyone looking for camps for their special needs children.

I thought this camp provided a great, typical day camp experience for my child with special needs. My child enjoyed all of the activities and wants to go again next year.

My son is a good safe swimmer but did not pass the swim test for some reason. This was disappointing to him as well as his parents. He goes independently to our pool club jumping off diving board into deep end almost daily all summer long.

John had a great time! It helped that he knew the staff from school so he felt comfortable and that the staff knew him and all his idiosyncrasies. He also knew some campers from school which also helped. John enjoyed making new friends too. The facilities were beautiful! The activities were numerous. I only wish John had tried more of them, it seemed he found the first one comfortable and kept repeating the same activity. Maybe next year he'll try some new ones. I felt good sending John knowing that the staff had so much experience with kids with special needs, and that some had already worked with John. John wasn't sure he wanted to go but now he can't wait to return next year. Thank you Holly and staff!

Our son has attended this camp for the past 5 years and has enjoyed it. The director and staff are enthusiastic and provide great supervision. It is worth the cost.

Summer Life is an amazing program. My son looks forward to them and so do I. He has a great time and grows from the experience each time. If not for Summer Matters he wouldn't want to go anywhere with someone other than mom. Each time he is more self sufficient and social.

We love the camp and the influence that it has on our son!!! My only wish is that the program started earlier in the summer so that it didn't conflict with mandatory sport camp programs that any child who plays a sport for their school must attend. Please, please, please begin the program the last week or two in July.

This was my daughter's first experience with an overnight camp, and she had an absolutely wonderful time. Holly and her staff could not be more attentive to her needs, and communication via phone and email was terrific! The fact that accommodations for my daughter's dietary issues was an anxiety relief (for both of us), and this set this camp experience above all other social skills camp I researched as many of them would not make any accommodations. This was key - other quality camps would not. Special children (ASD) should absolutely be accommodated in this way! My daughter has remained friends with one of her bunk mates. The flexibility in activities also helped relieve anxiety - if she needed some quiet time, she was understood and she got it. She also made marked social skill improvement from being immersed in the environment that was positive, constructive and focused. The only negative aspect of the camp was that there was no housing that had AC - she is asthmatic.

Summer L.I.F.E. offers campers with social challenges an opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities with high levels of support from experienced staff. Campers learn to take risks and expand their repertoire of activities while making new friends along the way.
