Click to report rating    9/13/23   5     4     3     5     4   My rating is not current. I went here for 4 years 84-87. All these years later not a summer goes by I don't think about it or pull out the box of letters from camp and girlfriends I had then. Was In yellows twice and finished as a CIT. What can you say there was fun there was drama. First love was there first kiss was there. Overall I had great experiences with staff most of them are nothing more then high-school or collage students you have to be for what they paid. Back then CITs paid them 500 Jr counselors were non paid and senior counselors made like 600 for the entire summer. When I was In BY3 I was 16 and there was beautiful girl on the kitchen staff that would talk with and flirt with me every meal. I was completely crazy about her. Last day of camp I'm wreck I can't accept I'll never see her again so I can't hide my tears. My counselor sees my state and asks whats up I tell him and he says do not get on that bus. 5 mins later he has her come give me a hug and proper good bye. RID: 53878

10/9/17   4     2     2     4     3   tbh this camp isn't that great. ive been coming here for a few years and liked it less every year. this camp is NOT built for two weeks, stay for one week. you can only write letters to your parents. no laundry. religious stuff is weird. archery was boring and the same girl followed me around everywhere. my cabin was nicer but some of them are pretty disgusting. when you are older you have to stay in a tent. ew. staff is good tho. its rly religious so watch out. there are some cliques. if you dont come the same wks every year people make fun of u. i had a nice group of friends tho. a lot of the buildings are rly old and you cant go in them. not awesome. Click to report rating    8/7/17   5     5     5     5     5   I've been to a lot of camps but this one is by far my favorite. Everyone is open and accepting and it automatically feels like home. Even people I know who don't usually go to church still enjoy their time here and don't feel out of place. We have endless games and activities and songs and it truly is an amazing, unforgettable experience. RID: 51186

5/3/16   5     4     4     5     5   Calumet is so fun! I went last summer and am going again this summer. The staff are super funny and nice, and give you a lot of personal attention. The activities are pretty good- I did the weekly play and got the lead role. Pottery was sort of lame, but it was fun. I don't like how they make you do swim lessons when you are in Junior End. I am a super strong swimmer, and they put me in the second to lowest group. It was so annoying, but at least I got to swim. I made friends with everyone in my cabin. It doesn't really matter that it is religious, because the fun really makes up for it. I <3 Calumet! RID: 49572
Click to report rating    2/4/11   5     5     5     5     5   I've been going to Camp Calumet for four years now. This year is going to be my 5th year. I have made so many friends at Calumet. I always have fun singing and hanging with my friends. Not all of my friends are Lutherans either. Food is great, especially the grilled cheese. Overall best camp ever. RID: 35018

8/31/10   5     4     5     5     5   I have been going to camp for 4 years now I was In yellows this year (unit 5) and I had the best year of my life, it has change who i am inside and out, for the better of course. The food is okay I guess It's not horrible, the people there are amazing, and anyone who says they don't like it at Calumet you shouldn't go plan and simple no one likes a person who doesn't enjoy themselves. Of course the bathrooms are not that clean. Another great part is the songs we all sing. The activites are always somewhat the same but you will have endless fun. Also how you can be anyone you want to be goofy, weird, or just yourself and no one judges you. You make friend's that last a lifetime weither they be boys, girls, or staff, plus you always have someone to talk to if you ever need them for any reason. Calumet is my home away from home next year I'm going to be a C.I.T, I hope everyone comes to enjoy themselves at our beautiful camp calumet. ~Courtney~ weeks 7 + 8 (since '06) RID: 33935

7/11/10   5     5     5     5     5   My son just returned from his first week as a camper at Calumet. He had an amazing time. When we went to pick him up, he did not want to leave. He loved his counselors, the activiites, the wide games, the food, snack bar, and even rest hour. He had so many stories of fun things he had done. He could not come up with one thing he did not like about being there. He like most of the kids in his cabin. He talked about ways the counselors had appropriately and effectively dealt with issues that came up in the cabin. He learned so many things about himself and other. His excitment about his week is still evident when he talks about being there. He is counting down the days until he can go again next year! As a parent, it feels great to pick your child up and see how happy they are and hear what a great week they just had! RID: 33301

6/7/10   1     1     1     1     1   I went to this camp last year and the year before. The scenery is very beautiful, but everything else is terrible. There were rotten kids in my cabin who made fun of me and the director was completely oblivious to everything and kept giving kids multiple chances. The counselors were mean-spirited, rotten people who didn't care about what was going on. The activities got boring after a while. We did the same thing every day. The selection was so limited. The food was okay, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. I dreaded going to church twice everyday. It was so boring. Another thing they made us do was clean the bathrooms twice a week. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. The toilets were usually clogged beyond repair, and being at Calumet for two weeks was like living in a prison. I strongly advise against attending here. Don't waste your time, money or summer going there until they invest in competent leadership. I can't wait to go to a different camp this summer! RID: 32940

6/18/09   5     5     5     5     5   I have been attending Calumet since I was 10 years old and am proud to say that it has changed my life in the most positive ways. From attending Calumet for these 5 years I have made some of the best friends in my life. Many people think it is crazy going to a "god" camp for 2 weeks of my summer but I tend to disagree that the whole god camp stereo type is false.Camp Calumet is more then god it is expanding your faith while having fun on the lake or all around camp. Calumet has the best grilled cheese in the whole world and their food beats out all camp food everywhere. The staff is also enthusiastic about what they do and are very passionate. As for activities there is enough to make me happy such as I enjoy boating on the lake or plastics shop. There is nothing bad that I can say about Calumet because I have had nothing but a positive experience. I am looking forward to coming back not this summer but the next as a CIT then a counselor(:. Peace.Love.CALUMET. RID: 30098

5/18/09   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Calumet has an incredible curriculum. This Lutheran Camp (this because an integral part of the camp) allows young people to learn about God in a way that is fun! Singing spiritual songs and providing a connection between religious teachings and games/crafts/activities allows a young person to more easily understand the religion they call their own. The day is structured quite well and goes back and forth between kids camp and Lutheran camp. If you're looking for an over-the-top high class place, this is not the camp for you - this is a KID'S camp in the midst of NH not in the Hamptons, you have to expect to have dirty feet when you leave! The food is camp food, typical kids food...expect taco-eating contests and such! Counselors are there because they love CCL, they want to be a part of it and want your child to feel the same way. The atmosphere is high-energy, accepting and VERY huggy! Calumet will always be a part of you, people, experiences and lessons learned. Enjoy! RID: 29786
Click to report rating    12/3/08   5     4     5     5     5   I have gone to Calumet for 7 years, and, usually i am up at camp for my bday. I love camp so much, and i cant believe that im not going back next year. I miss everyone, because at camp nobody judges you and it is okay to be as crazy and weird as you want. RID: 27816
Click to report rating    11/12/08   5     5     5     5     5   Best Camp Ever. Ive gone to plenty camps throughout my childhood and always cried to come home. This camp, i cried when i had to leave... and the majority of us do. Im not even lutheran, and they dont try to convert me, spent 8wks there this summer as a CIT and my fellow Cits are my real family. RID: 27455
Click to report rating    8/20/08   5     5     5     5     5   I was the first kid from my church to go to Calumet in the summer of 1990. My first day as a camper was my 8th birthday. I stood next to D-Guy and the whole camp sang to me in Luther Hall During orientation. I went back for 7 more years before becoming LnS2 98'. I was on staff untill 2001. We now drop off 30-40 kids from my church and my oldest really cant wait to go in 2 years. I walk through camp now and see very few familiar faces. But now some of the people running the departments and programs were my campers and remember me. The best feeling in the world is when someone comes up to you and says " You were my favorite councelor and the reason I am one today. Thank you" Calumet is state of being and kinda a world of its own. You can be anything you want. You can act crazy and walk around in silly clothes. Have you ever played hide-and-go-seek with 300 people? Or capture the flag? or tag? These are normal at calumet. You cant understand the feeling if you have never been there. So go RID: 25893
Click to report rating    7/23/08   5     5     5     5     5   ive been going to calumet since i was 8 and i love it more than anything. it is my home away from home and every year i dread the last day. I wait all year to come back. the friends ive made there i still hang out with even my best friend that i met in camp. she lives in NY and i live in MA and we still manage to see eachother. the people there are amazing. I cant imagine not being able to come back. I love it there. RID: 25079
Click to report rating    7/21/08   5     5     5     5     5   Oh my gosh. Camp Calumet is amazing in so many ways. I have made the best friends there. I wait all year long to go to CCL. I am never bored and I'm always in a good mood and everyone is so friedly and welcoming.I cant think of another camp that would even come close to Calumet. BOOM CHICKA BOOM <3 RID: 24979
Click to report rating    6/19/08   5     5     5     5     5   Amazing. That's all I can say. I know everyone thinks that their camp is the best, but I've been to other camps as well and Calumet trumps them all. RID: 23991
Click to report rating    6/18/08   5     4     5     5     5   I <3 CAMP CALUMET WITH A HOT, FIERY PASSION. I've been going to summer camp there since I was age-eligible, along with church retreats before that. It's too bad I'm not going this summer....I'm wearing a Camp Calumet sweatshirt right now, actually.... RID: 23970
Click to report rating    6/17/08   5     5     5     5     5   Its amazing there. You can be yourself and you have so many options as of what to do! Everyone is so friendly and nice and welcoming. RID: 23916
Click to report rating    3/18/08   5     5     5     5     5   Calumet is absoultly the best. I have gone for 7 years now. I always come back. I don't personally feel like it ties you to be Lutheran. I have so many friends who are different religions and we all can go to Calumet and have an easy good time. I love the food. The counslors are great too. Sure they all have their wierd quirks, but it makes them only more likeable. When it comes down to it all, they are always there to talk to. Also the friendships in Calumet are super strong. It's really hard to explain the connection. For instance, on my first day last year I was talking with all the girls in my cabin. We all connected so well. Go girls cabin 12!!! There are cute boys for any girl who is concerned. My favorite week in Calumet (although i've never been to any other one) is week 8 because I like to sing. They offer a Music Camp for anyone who would like to be a part of it. Its great for singers. They do a concert at the end of the week. Week 8 is the last week and also teary for us all RID: 21462
Click to report rating    3/2/08   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing! its wicked fun. Click to report rating    11/18/07   5     5     5     5     5   this camp has saved my life. the people you meet there last a lifetime. a suggestion- start out going when you are younger. the older you get, going for your first time gets harder, bcause everyone that comes back every year knows eachother so well, that its just a very tight group and can be awkward. at this camp, popularity is not even glanced at, and everyone hasa chance to fit in, no matter what race or religion, gender or school-status. less than alf the people that go are really lutheran, and the people that arent, it desnt bother them, and no one wil even know if you arent, because thats not what its really about. the point is to have fun and met new people, and yeah, theres church every once and a while, but that doesnt mean we cant be kids/teenagers and have rebellious fun without parents. to conclude, this camp is where my life began, and i plan to spend my whole life there, and everyone one of my future generations will go there. RID: 17217
Click to report rating    11/12/07   5     5     5     5     5   I thought that this camp was great I went here when I was in the 4th grade with my school. but it would have been better if I did not have a broken ankle but they made me fit in on what I could not do. like I could not go into the water so some of the counslours made sand castles and stuff with me. RID: 17021
Click to report rating    11/7/07   5     5     5     5     5   Calumet has been a place that has allowed me to be myself for years. I started going as a camper in 1998, and since then have been on staff, making sure that other children get a chance to have the same experience I have. I would recommend this camp to anyone, either for attending or for working. RID: 16883
Click to report rating    11/4/07   1     3     3     3     1   It's a really pretty camp, but the some of the councilers are weird, and mean, and all of the people there are like all way too close for my likings, also theres not hot boys there, only ones with pimples and greesey hair, i am going there this year tho, ps: its way better if u bring a friend u kno!! RID: 16774
Click to report rating    10/29/07   2     3     2     3     2   okay wellll, if i WAS lutheran, i might have had fun, but i had no idea that we had to GO to lutheran church and stuff, it was super awkward, only go if you are lutheran. I HATE CLEANING BATHROOMS, haha goodtimes, NOT! jk bathroom cleanings not THAT bad i guess...ehh...the food was good??Not the bessst time of my life, but I LOVE THE PEOPLEE<3333333 AAFF LOVEE YAA GIRRLS..... Click to report rating    5/30/07   5     4     5     5     4   It is fun last year I got funyacking it is like kyyaking but FUNER and i wanted archery but it is always full and i have never got it in the 3 years i have gone there byt all togather it is fun and i sugest for you to go but only if you are luthern becase its a luhtren camp RID: 11282
Click to report rating    5/5/07   5     5     4     5     4   I love Calumet soo much! I've made so many friends there, and it is a total blast! I lovelovelove the chicken pucks, they're my favorite lunch. I agree, the Sunday brunch is theee bessttt. I can't wait to go this year!!!! RID: 10516
Click to report rating    3/21/07   5     5     5     4     4   This is a great camp for all lutren kids and teens when you go you get assighned eather a tent or cabin both are alright but the one dissadvantige is that you have to go to church every day but only fo alittle bit of thime. RID: 8859
Click to report rating    12/20/06   4     5     5     4     4   First off I wanna say to the people afraid of the "rituals" its church camp we go to Church! But its way better we almost never spend over an hour a day talkin bout god unless we're doin sumthin fun. Sumtimes u may get a bad counselor but usually the're pretty good. You can do pretty much what ever you wanna do their, there isnt any real scheduel. I love it! The food there rocks.. especially Sunday Brunch! Ur in a cabin with like 10 other kids who u see as brothers at the end of the week. They make you clean the bathroom once a week but it only takes 10 minutes tops (We have indoor plumbing!) With over a like 2 square miles of camp ground Calumet is the best camp ever! (But the weekly play stinks) Go Boy's Cabin 1! RID: 6157
10/30/06   1     1     1     1     1   Personally, I feared for my life within Calumet. The brain washing and rituals were just too much for me. If I hadn't escaped in the night, I fear I probably would have ended up like the rest of you Stepford Wives. RID: 4468
Click to report rating    9/10/06   5     5     5     4     4   I LOVE CALUMET I WISH I COULD STAY THEIR FOR EVER ITS THE BEST CAMP IN THE WORLD!! I DEFINETETLY WANT TO BE ON STAFF WHEN I GET OLDER!!! RID: 3043
