Click to report rating    5/2/17   5     3     4     5     5   I came to camp at a later age than most people. I started going when I was 13 years old. Now I'm going on my 5th summer. I was afraid people wouldn't let me into their friend groups but as soon as I got there I realized everyone wanted to be friends with everyone. There are no cliquey friend groups. Everyone is welcome and appreciated. The camp is based off of old fashion fun. You will not see any fancy boats or state of the art jett skis like some camps. But you will see kids finding fun in simple things such as catching your first fish or swimming across a lake. You really get the old fashion fun considering the fact that the cabins have no air conditioning in the middle of east Texas where it can reach up to 105 in the afternoon. The morals of camp huawni really teach kids that life isnt all about technology and that playing outside can really be fun. Overall camp huawni is the best summer camp!! RID: 50681

Click to report rating    6/8/13   5     4     5     5     5   My daughter has attended Camp Allen and camp Pinetree and as soon as she went to Huawni she was hooked. She's now been there for nine years and is a counselor. This camp is old fashioned fun and a great family- run place. The difference is in the special attention to each child and the evening camp wide activities such as the talent show and "contests". Lots of silly fun, traditions, and special moments. Especially important is the competition that pits "tribes" against one another for the Golden Pinecone but in fact is a "family" building experience for the youngsters. My son also attended this camp for two years. It wasn't for him but it wasn't for him because he was too timid. But the counselors still were great to him and he left wanting to go back. RID: 44692
Click to report rating    5/29/13   5     5     5     5     5   Its a great camp. It's not close to central Texas, but my kids love it so much that we'll keep making that drive. I think the negative reviewer above must have some kind of other problems going on in his/her life. I've never heard any criticisms about this camp. The staff and directors are on top. The cabins are rustic, but the kids love them and everything else about the place. My daughter would have stayed for a second session if we'd let her. Several kids talked their parents into doing just that. This will be her third year. Her sibling and their cousins are joining along with some classmates. RID: 44611
