The camp is great for some kids. The directors pick a small number of kids and have them perform in multiple roles for all 5 shows, which does not leave room for other kids to have a chance. If you are just in the company you do a lot of sitting around and you are barely seen in the show at all. They should split the roles over the 5 shows and only have kids in one role each, so other kids have a chance to perform. 5 dress rehearsals that are 5 hours each is too much for the company to be expected to do when they sit around for most of the month watching the leads perform. Kids actually bring arts and crafts and card games to keep themselves from being bored. The directors need to realize it is about giving kids a chance to perform not putting on a professional show. Maybe the middle school kids should do a different show, so they have a chance to get a role. It is hard to compete with high school kids when you are only in 7th grade.

I've loved Summerstock since fifth grade and have only missed one summer of it in the past seven years. It's something I will miss terribly when I go off to college, but it will always be in my memories and my heart.

I absolutely adore going to summerstock. I always have, BUT I must say that some of the staff really needs to find someplace where they're not around kids because they don't realize that 2-12 graders aren't necessarily professionals yet. I mean, come on. And the cast of the shows are ALWAYS the same kids, but other than that, I love it. It is a great way to get theatre experience without joining a professional troupe.
