In all of my life, I can not remember being as happy as I was (for an entire three weeks) as at Putney. All my friends at home make fun of me because when I came home I wrote poetry and took up the guitar, and pretty much never shut up about the three weeks that changed my life. I have never cried so hard as when I left. The friends I made there I still consider among my favorite people in the entire world. Its the kind of place that just can't be explained in writing- how do you sum up morning sing? Or painting the sun as it set over the mountain? Or sneaking out the last night, sitting on the theater roof and counting shooting stars? If you think you might even maybe want to go, just go. I promise you won't regret it.

I spent two sessions as a student (2009-2010) and two more as a staff-in-training (2011) at the Putney Summer Programs and it was a truly wonderful experience. During the time I spent there, I gained confidence in myself by finding people to relate to and found interest in activities I did not have the opportunity to participate in before. In the twelve weeks total I was in Putney; I was able to write several poems, short stories, and plays. I developed photographs, and even made a two-minute short film. These are things that I don't think I would have had the opportunity to achieve anywhere else. I was able to develop great working relationships with the staff and instructors and most of all, I made friendships that I will always keep dear to me. The program is intense and requires a lot of working energy but if you find that the program is offering workshops based in a medium that you want to pursue, you might just fall in love with it like I did.
