Our Son will not be returning next summer. He enjoyed the activities and the general atmosphere. However, the social experience was terrible. He felt bullied and demeaned and that the bullies suffered few consequences while he was often singled out disproportionally. He felt that no one had "his back" or respected his version of the events. This was especially true in the case of the bunk counsellors whom he felt always took the other side. We were very surprised to hear this because we had a positive vibe and experience from the camp. If your child is not a "go along get along" type of kid, this is not a good fit.

I love this camp so much. This summer is going to be my 3rd summer. It's a little more than just a sleep away camp though, its ur home. They're r 2 sides of camp. Poyntelle & Lewis VIllage. Poyntelle is 2nd-7th grade & Lewis is 8th-11th. I recommend starting at the youngest age possible bc when it's ur last year on poyntelle you get first choice for colorwar. In some bunks the girls r a little jappy but not that much. & it isn't bad jappy, no one brags or compete's over boys. And common, its a jewish sleep away camp, there isn't going to b one jewish camp where there not any jappy girls. The friends u make r incredible and will last a lifetime. It is a small camp, so if u to send ur kids to a really jappy camp and a big one this camp isn't for u. Everything is so amazing & the staff really pay attention to u. This summer there is a new director so I can't say much about him, & the only reason theres a new one bc the old one had her 3rd kid so she retired. ILY CPLV OLDEST INTERS '15 !!!

I have worked for and supervised many camps across the US and I have to say that I was very disappointed in the staff here. Many liked to smoke weed, drink under age, use inappropriate behaviors and language and were never given consequences. Supervisors often played favorites with staff and campers, allowing behaviors that were inappropriate to continue. I often heard of bullying and teasing from kid to kid and even staff to kid. The activities in some of the areas are very good and engaging, and campers can learn and experience a lot. Unfortunately, the turn over is quite high that you can not expect consistancy summer to summer. In short, find a camp that will take priority in caring for your child's mind, body, and soul. One that will help them grow into the people they can and want to be. And that will give them the tools to succeed in anything and all that they choose to do.

My daughter has been a camper for three years and has always enjoyed the companionship of several girls and staff members during her summers. There is structure, fun activities and a dedicated staff who make the experience stimulating and worth the wait for the following season. Nevertheless, from discussions with my daughter, observations during visiting day and while waiting at the bus drop-off/pick-up on Long Island, the negative comments concerning bullies, brats and nasty kids may be quantifiable. I anticipate that the Directors will make every effort to train the staff to properly identify, intervene and resolve negative behavior by some of the campers and impose a Zero Tolerance concerning bulling. Overall, the camp experience seems to be positive and recommended. My daughter enjoys the daily structured activities, arts and crafts, free time, friendships and freedom to be on her own.

camp poyntelle is amazing, and lewis village is even better. cplv has had so many renovations, and really, if you're one of those people that are complaining that the kids are mean...MAYBE YOU'RE JUST WEIRD. i keep getting closer and closer with my camp friends, and i can't wait to be an LIT.

Our son attended this camp for three years. He went the first year not knowing a single person and had a great time. The counselors were nice, but they were immature and not responsible. I actually got a letter about a medical condition and had to call the camp about it (letters can take a week to get home!). Nobody had noticed the problem, and even after my call nothing was done. My son is independent and just loves being at camp, so his experience was overall good. However, there were too many arguments among the kids adn he didn't want to go back again. I also think the activities are a bit lacking. He did not get to water ski even once in the three sessions that he was there. I think this is a nice, basic camp. We liked that it was small and not too overwhelming for a young first-timer. He is trying a new camp this summer and I am hoping for that "AMAZING" experience.

As a parent I think this is a wonderful and amazing camp. I went to quite a few crummy Federation camps as a child and this camp definitely blows them away. The staff has been very nurturing and caring to both of my children. I refer to Poyntelle as my son's "Happy Place." Debby has been nothing but a great director, she's strict when need be and loving and motherly all of the time. She has taken extremely great care of my daughter when she becomes homesick. The camp has handled some sticky situations in a wonderful way. One example is the lice outbreak two years ago. I was extremely impressed. For the people who are disappointed about the staff having favorites, you should know that this happens everywhere. It is a part of life and a part of human nature. I will continue to send my children until they are either too old or just don't want to go anymore. If I envy my children this summer!!!

I've been going to this camp for a while.... and it was okay. First of all the staff played favorites all the time if u were favored by atleast one counsler then consider yourself lucky. Also my age group had alot of drama and it wasnt caused by one person just everyone!!! The director was reallystrict and so was the head of our division who was horrible!!! THEY MADE US HAVE GROUP MEETING ALL THE TIME AND WOULDT LEAVE US ALONE!! BTW THEY DIDNT EVEN WORK!!! When you think about all the positive and negative thngs the negative totally over rides your whole experience. Well atleast for my friendsand I. Also ocassionally it can get boring same rooutine. Lice eww charging you sucks!! Some girls are really snobby and totally rude to you but thas the problem alot of things these days. food is OK too. ohhh and unlike the somment b4 this camp is materialistic. Really it is ...no im dead serious. I would reccomend this camp only if you are under the age of 9 so theres no drama when u start!!

I'm currently a counselor at CPLV and love every minute of it. The facilities could certainly use an update as well as some new additions, and the activities need to be reworked a bit with some new additions (besides archery). However the people you meet, the things you learn, and the memories last a lifetime. This place is magical and so much fun which is why I have been going there for what will be a decade. This camp is top notch in my opinion and well worth the money spent. Just a side note, (Not concerning campers) the curfew really must be extended/removed.

Last summer was my childs first year at Poyntelle and I have nothing but positive feedback reguarding the staff, activities and overall atmosphere. On visiting day the counselors were extremely overjoyed and seemed to have a very special bond with the campers. My child made friends with down to earth, respectful kids that she has kept in touch with throughout the year. As for the religous aspects of Poyntelle, I truly believe that my daughter has gained interest in being Jewish and came home knowing several hebrew songs as well as traditions that we don't necessarly keep at home. During the summer my child came down with a fever and was kept in the infirmary overnight. The wonderful staff helped comfort her and made her feel safe. One of her counselors even volenteered to sleep in the infirmary with her so she wouldn't be alone. To me, that is how you would hope for your child to be taken care of when needed. Were already counting down till the summer! Can't wait! Looking forward!

Poyntelle is such a great camp! The atmosphere isn't materialistic, which is a problem at other camps from what I've heard. The campers are encouraged to have their own personalities and the staff give lots of personal attention to the kids. The facilities are well-kept and the lake is beautiful!

CPLV is a fun and exciting place for the summer. The Jewish activities are more about traditions and culture rather than forcing the kids to participate in rituals and prayers. My kids really enjoy being immersed in Judaism without the "Ugh" of Hebrew School. The counselors are attentive and caring. The sports programs are definitely on par with other camps and continue to get better every year. The facilities are great and they are always making appropriate changes and renovations each year. The food is amazing and special attention is given to children with allergies or specific restrictions (like Celiac Disease). The camp director is absolutely wonderful, always handling situations appropriately and fairly, with great communication with the parents. I feel very safe and happy sending my children to CPLV (for the 3rd summer) and I know that they look forward to it too. It is a wonderful vacation from the very hectic lives they lead all year.

Despite what others have said about this camp being so amazing, i would like to say that I attended for quite some time and pretty much know the camp inside and out. Before Debby came, Mark and Bubba (the old directors) had the camp running amazingly, making it not only a summer camp but a vacation gettaway from our hectic lives at home. When the new director came, she brought a lot of misfortune as well. Such as the firing of tons of staff, strict rules for the campers/staff to obide by, a curfew for the staff, and a lot of stress. As a counselor, Ive watched the "favorites-game" be played and saw how other campers/staff members were treated more lenient and much better than others and for those who werent a chosen "favorite" were treated like dirt. The pay certainly isnt worth waking up at 7 am every morning, going to bed past 12 (theres no choice.. unless you choose to stay in when youre not on OD), and being treated like an infant. I dont reccomend this camp at all.

This camp is fantastic. Spent some of hte best times of my life here. The staff is amazing and you are always able to relate to them no matter what problem your facing. The experiences are just tremendous and go on and on and on. I've never had a better time getting away from home. The people at this camp calll it "home" for every reason becuase it is rightfully a home for people to get away and have amazing experiences. I highly reccomend it to any parent who wants there kid to have the time of their life. I will send my kids there when they are old enough because I know the treatment they will recieve will be remarkable. If your looking for a camp worth your money and time, this is the place for you.

The facilities were a little old, there were snakes and slugs in the lake. eww! there were no japs they were all nice. Not only did i like it because of the friends i also did like it because it was fun. when i saw other camps that were the same price but had better offerings i decided to go with that

My daughter went to Poyntelle las summer and LOVED camp. Even though there was a lice breakout the second half, it didn't take away from her fun very much. Lice happens all over, you just don't hear about it. She is back there now and LOVING camp.

I been going to this camp for eight years and its the most amazing place ever. I started all the way back in junior girls and now its already my second year being staff. I have made the best of friends from cplv and i love everything about it from the directors, to the programs, and even the food is really good. Over the years i think the jewish programs have really improved and all the campers and staff get really into it. My favorite program of the summer is probubly the overnight tri[ in lewis or color war, but everything about camp is so much fun! I'm so excited to go back to camp this summer! yay cplv!

I echo the comments about Jewish values...just not there. The kitchen is not really kosher and Shabbat is often an after thought. The directors are not very nice. There is an amazing family atmosphere though and the kids do seem to be happy (although some can be very bratty).

it is supposed to be a religious camp but it isn't at all. Most of the counselors are not Jewish and don't set the best behavior examples. The activities are ok, but if you are looking for a little Judaica, you won't find it here. The head counseler, Yochi, screams at us all the time.

I was bullied. There was nothing to do except going to the waterfront and the field. A week after the second session started there was a lice outbreak and we had lice checks twice a day which took up a large amount of time. the activities were disorganized and repeating.
