9/6/13   5     5     5     5     5   This is the most thoughtfully-run supportive summer camp I have ever known. The directors clearly have a vision and it animates the entire experience of the camper. Our son has been attending for 3 straight summers and each year has come home more enthusiastic about his experience as well as more mature, and happier. He has been able to take advantage of unique opportunities to express himself artistically, musically and as a cook, and these experiences reliably become foundations for new independent explorations during the course of the following year. They welcome and respond to individual kids' skills and needs; They don't use a "cookie cutter" approach. (I am the mother of a three-year camper) RID: 45911

8/21/13   5     5     5     5     5   This past summer was our daughter's second year going. We have been impressed with MAC since day 1. The owners know all campers by name and the counselors are well educated, talented and kind. Everyone is warm and friendly and leave the parents at ease when dropping off their child for camp knowing they will be safe and happy. I especially like the e-mails that the dorm counselors send out to parents - one each week. They are personal to your child and always full of positive words. The art projects are made with quality material. The stained glass, the pottery, the portraits, and photography, etc. are beautiful pieces of art. The performance that they hold at the end of the session is amazing, especially after only two weeks! All the kids are happy and hate leaving. I would HIGHLY recommend this camp to anyone!!      8/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter Izzy from Swampscott, Massachusetts has attended this camp for 6 years. In those 6 years attending this camp, Izzy has return home with a big smile on her face. This camp is very nurturing and welcomes all different personality traits from the shyest to the most talkative . It is a terrific sleepover camp ,for children looking to experience leaving the home for the first time. I always ask her if their is any thing she does not like about this camp, and her answer has always been I love it here! RID: 45734
8/16/13   5     4     5     5     5   We have two campers who have had very individually different, yet completely successful and enjoyable summers at Maine Arts Camp. Our daughter was slow to adjust to being away from home and was fully supported by the attentive, caring and responsive staff. They promptly and clearly communicated with us about her progress, and helped her to form friendships and flourish in her chosen activities. Our son hit the ground running and has dabbled in almost every experience offered, including classes in art, music, cooking, drama and outdoor activities. He has been extremely well matched with roommates and has had an entirely positive social experience. I can't tell you how grateful we are (and he is) that, at camp, he's gotten a much needed respite from the social trials of middle school. This is a camp that cares for each individual, provides high quality instruction, and is just a really fun place to be. RID: 45718
Click to report rating    8/16/13   5     5     5     5     4   It's pricy, although maybe not pricier than similar camps; I found this camp 1st, and never looked back. My twins started at Maine Arts Camp when they were 10. This was their 6th year - they love it. The 1st year, another kid had inappropriate behavior; it was immediately dealt with - safety was the 1st concern. The counselors are at least college-aged, but most of them seem to be post-grad students or teachers working the summer. There are only 2 2-week sessions plus a "specialty week," so the counselors don't have time to get tired of the grind. My daughter is very shy, but she just blossoms at camp. My son has learned to work w/stained glass, and now he's doing it at home. My twins think their time here is the best 2 weeks of the year. They've been asking for years to go for 4 weeks -- they're weeding, cleaning, and eBaying to make money so we can afford it! I think the counselors and directors can handle all kinds of kids. My girl has to eat gluten free and they can handle it here. RID: 45717
8/16/13   5     4     5     5     5   My son has been attending Maine Arts Camp since he was nine, and has been going ever since--he is now fifteen. He LOVES the Maine Arts Camp, and he has learned so much, not only about arts, games, cooking and canoeing and kayaking, but about getting along with all different types of people and understanding differences. And we have benefited from incredible recipes that he has brought home--and cooks for us all the time--as well as lovely pottery, paintings and photographs. And he learned enough about metal jewellery to display and sell many items each Christmas and make quite a profit. Next year will be his last year, and he's already sad about it. He wants to be there for the full five weeks to enjoy every minute of the camp. Thank you, Maine Arts Camp! RID: 45716
