The type of camp that acts as if they are open and accepting, yet shame children who do not conform to their ideals.

We've sent our daughter to this camp for three summers now, our fourth coming up in a few weeks. The camp provides a social-media, electronic-free atmosphere and a focus on real activities such as farming, carpentry, kitchen chores and outdoor trips. She hates chores at home but LOVES this camp, with its focus on real relationships and activities that contribute and result in a better camp environment. It is really fantastic!

This place is Looney Tunes! Our kid came home at the end of the summer telling us that we are a family of white supremacists. She had a hand out from camp that explained our white privilege and said that at camp the campers had been divided into two groups: white kids and kids of color. The white kids were lectured for an hour about how to face their white privilege while the kids of color got to "hang out." On visiting day we saw some boys swimming. We said, "That's cool." Our kid said, "No, that's toxic masculinity on display." Okay. This place is like an insane asylum! Steer clear!

This is a camp for LGBT counselors and kids. That is great for those kids but not necessarily for others. The facilities are very poor--the mattresses are old and thin, the cabins incredibly rustic (which is the point and to be fair, the reason why some kids like it here), no sinks, no flush toilets, and not a very nice setting--mediocre waterfront and everything slopped on a hillside without an intimate feeling. You have to be comfortable with kids not brushing their teeth in the morning (because no sinks) and minimal sanitation. When we picked up our son, the cabin was a complete mess. I'm sure there is much personal growth here, but if you want a modicum of sanitation and order (and not a majority LGBT orientation), then this camp may not be for you.
