Click to report rating    6/22/24   5     5     5     5     5   This camp was one of the most important experiences of my childhood. It was an amazing opportunity to learn sailing in one of the most inspiring settings in the country- all while sleeping aboard a historic ship and doing activities like a steamboat ride and rigging climb. Most staff are skilled alums of the camp and it's easy to see why. This place promotes avid followers for life. RID: 54025

Click to report rating    2/28/19   5     5     5     5     5   My triplet girls have attended this camp for four years now and it has the high point of their summer each time. I'm not sure that the sailing is the focal point for them. They have made friendships with other campers that have prevailed, after camp was done. The staff are supportive and thoughtful. I have actually been called at home to discuss programming changes that the staff felt needed to be made. Mystic is a wonderful backdrop to this camp, allowing the kids to become in many more things that just sail and with nothing left to do. My girls have now become age appropriate for moving on to time on the Brilliant for continued contact with the sailing program and Mystic. As noted by others time spent in a vintage sailing ship is part of the experience. These wonderful years will stay with my girls thru their lifetime. RID: 52489
Click to report rating    2/6/19   5     5     5     5     5   I have attended this camp for three years and have never found a better camp. It was at Conrad camp where I got my first sailing instruction, and it sparked a passion that I have taken much further than I could ever imagine, all started at Mystic Seaport. The counselors are great, and connect very easily with the kids. The facilities are perfect, and while a sensitive person might complain, the bunks are part of the immersive experience, and give you something to remember. The activities never get old, and they create fun games that help to foster sailing passions in kids. The instruction is wonderful, and the lessons learned, both in sailing and for life, stay with you forever. If you need help on a specific aspect of sailing, or on really anything, the counselors will be sure to help you. Truly, this camp is among the best, and provides campers with unique experiences, such as climbing the rigging, exploring the seaport, and exiting sailing, that create memories to last a lifetime. Click to report rating    2/5/19   5     5     5     5     5   Our son has attended Conrad Camp for the last 2 summers and thoroughly enjoyed it! He made friends with whom he stays in touch, even after 2 yrs. In my opinon, fostering these kinds of relationships is a small miracle in today's world. He can tie knots and climb rigging like a pro. He learned to sail and well! I am so proud of his on-water abilities. At drop off and pick up each term we met and spent time with the staff, all of whom are certified in First Aid, US Sailing and various other Safety and Sailing aspects. It was tough leaving my 10yr old that first year. But he came back so happy and confident and ready to go again that Conrad Camp has become a summer tradition. He still talks about the the fantastic counselors-quite a compliment from a 12yo! My only critique is the ship on which they sleep gets pretty warm-but it was also one of my son's favorite parts of camp. The cost is fair given the skills, experiences and full accomodation provided. He will attend Conrad Camp again! RID: 52448
Click to report rating    8/11/17   1     1     3     1     1   This camp is disorganized and appears to be run by children. The "medical director" has no medical training. Our kids were on a sailboat that was run over by counselors who lost control of their motorboat. One of them sustained a concussion and landed in the ER. No phone call to a parent until many hours later. One child with a food allergy was fed food he was allergic to. Again, no phone call to parent when he had a reaction. RID: 51218
Click to report rating    1/14/17   1     1     2     1     2   After going to this camp myself with my brother and I, we experienced many issues with the faculties attitudes. They were stuck up and did not at all pay attention or care about us. The sleeping arrangement was makeshift at best and caused lots of clutter and crowds especially in 80 degree weather. The Conrad was like a sauna 24/7, we found it hard to sleep at night because of the overwhelming heat. On nights two and three we were terrorized by a screeching alarm that sounded at 4 am!!! ON BOTH NIGHTS!!! One other camper threw up because of the alarm on the second night. In terms of the sailing, we were very limited with space and time. The same routine became boring after the second or third day. When we asked for a different sleeping arrangement for the remaining three nights we were shunned and yelled at which only caused more anxiety and misery. DO NOT send your child to this camp.
