8/22/13   5     5     5     5     5   Both of my boys have been attending Sunset Lake for the past 9 summers. This camp has played a huge role in their lives and has shaped them to be the young men they are today. The activities are awesome, the food is incredible, the programming is excellent, but I attribute the affect this camp has had on my children to the quality of the staff that are hired each summer. Over the years the counselors and activity staff have been positive role models for my children. They have shaped them to be strong leaders and to live boldly for Christ. The camp staff work hard to create a safe environment where everyone is valued and respected. I have never had to deal with issues of bullying or inappropriate behavior. I couldn't be happier with the camp experience that my boys have had over the years. Probably the worst day summer for my boys is the day camp is over. If you are looking for a Christian camp that is fun for your kids and provides a safe, caring environment, this is the camp for you! RID: 45794
Click to report rating    8/5/13   1     4     4     2     2   First - my child enjoyed their time at this camp. But this was overshadowed by questionable judgement of a counselor/young adult supervising our 10/11 year olds. This adult/counselor/mentor shared a story about being sexually assaulted. I spoke to Pastor Dave 2 weeks ago and have yet to be called back after he handled this situation. I am empathetic as a human being to something of this degree but very disappointed that our children were subjected to this discussion. Pastor Dave said he'd return our call however, two long weeks have gone by w/out response. I am now questioning the screening process and/or training of those who are held responsible for our greatest gifts, our children for 7 days. Its very disappointing because we really wanted to send our child back but not only is this not a priority but feels like there is something more going on and no other parents were notified that their children were brought into a discussion of sexual nature. What a disappointment. RID: 45508
Click to report rating    6/16/11   5     5     5     5     5   Cheap and fun! The water slides are both fine and fun. The showers are always hot. The beds are comfortable. I LOVE this place! (Except the bacon:)You only get to trot the horses if you are in the horse camp but you get to go on a trail ride no matter what. I don't know WHAT the other rater was talking about but there aren't any cots, they're wood bunk beds with good mattresses. Even the horse campers get a good cabin. RID: 36129
Click to report rating    4/7/10   3     1     2     4     3   The facilities were really bad. there were only hot showers for the councelers. In horse camp, they make you sleep under tarps. They do give you cots to sleep on, but they are old and sharp and rusty. I got a terrible rusty cut. They have a waterslide, but it is newly built and haven't worked out all the kinks like the screws that poke the inside and rip the toenails off unsuspecting (me) campers. The activities are ok, but you have to walk a really long time to get to them. If you're thinking of doing horseriding, be warned. They never let you leave the pen of go faster than a walk RID: 32554
Click to report rating    7/27/06   5     4     4     5     5   I went there for 2 years, and my sister was my counselour for both. It's a friendly place where you can go and have fun, sing songs during worship and go horseback riding if you want to. The beds are pretty comfortable and the staff are very friendly. The good could use some work :):) But other than that everything is wonderful. They have an adventure thing at the end of the week which is a lot of fun. I recommend everyone to go there! There are family camp options, horseback riding options, and swimming. It's an amazing camp to go to. RID: 1623
