I was hired as a staff member here. I don't have children and if I had the money I would definitely send my child to camp here. This is a good camp but it is elite. If you are hired as a counselor you have to REALLY show them that you deserve the job. This camp has great facilities and the swimming program is very important. Campers swim twice a day: instructional and free swim. The schedule is very structured which is a good thing. I have made good interpersonal connections while working there but if you have not been a camper there and it is your first time working you feel a little out of place. I very much enjoyed my experience working with children. The staff orientations were very informative and interesting. However, everyone should remember that camp is not only a place for children to have fun over the summer but it is also a business. If you are an introvert like me you have to work hard and be enthusiastic ALL the time. Good luck if you get hired! :-) It's fun!

I'll go there next summer for my second year and after it was my first year I want to be a deep water swimmer and to be in team green and tops peace happiness love Hillard and green senior camp challenge shirt

Last summer I worked at Hillard and I enjoyed my time. Counselor's are incredibly underpaid but almost all the counselor's loved their job and the children likewise. There are many rules in camp but the kids are sweet and its a very welcoming enviroment!

I have been going to/working at this camp more years than I can possibly count. I can not imagine going anywhere else. It is not true that the camp is overcrowded. The directors are constantly expanding to make room for everyone. Yes, there are a lot of buses but many of them, like the one I ride, are smaller buses that seat only about fifteen kids at most. The counselors are very good, and there are activities for everyone. Facilities are constantly being renevated. So many kids go to the camp becasue it is amazing!

This camp was awesome. I learned to be a great swimmer here. I had a lot of friends. The water slide was awesome. I went there for 4 years. The counselors were great, except for one counselor (who they ended up getting rid of). One year I tried another camp, but came back to good old Hillard!

I HATED IT HERE. AND I WENT FOR LIKE 4 YEARS TOO. each year i would end up 2 swim levels back from where i started and then over the course of the summer i would go up two swim levels and then the next summer i would be DOWN two swim levels again on the first day of camp. the staff was horrible and mean, bunks were weird-forced to change in front of other girls. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.

HATE THIS CAMP! I WENT THERE AND WAS CRYING EVERYDAY! DON'T GO HERE. ALL MY FRIENDS AND I HATE THIS OVERLY CROWDED PLACE.

I attended Camp Hillard and now my kids. Its simple the best All my friends children attend and they love it! Keep up the great work!

Camp Hillard is AMAZING. I have gone there for four years and am going back next summer. Anyone who says it is a bad camp is a stupid becuase when I was a camper there, I loved it. My counselors were AMAZING and they were not strict at all. The reason its such an expensive camp is becuase it is such a great place to be! My bus counselors have been AMAZING and the whole camp is just a very nice camp and place to send your children. The kids are so nice and i love everyone there!

Ok, i went here when i was about 5, and i hated it. The coinclers, they pay attention to you to much, that when you are doing something wrong they always know. and when it was nap time it was outside so you coulnt sleep. golf and houseback riding was really fun. but the swimming, i was small and they put me in really deep water i practicle drowned!

My daughter has gone to Hillard since she was 5 years old and is just turning 14. The camp is crowded because it is good and many people want to send their children there. My daughter has felt safe and welcomed and has looked forward to every summer. Last summer she became a CIT (counselor in training) and enjoyed it very much. The bus trip from NYC is very organized and is always on time despite the fact that my daughter is the last pickup and drop off on her route. The camp is very well run and tons of fun for parents and kids. I agree you can get more space elsewhere, but at a much longer commute.

My daughter went to this camp 5 years ago when she was 5 and I regret every moment. The owners are wonderful when you visit and they sold me on the camp. But they put my 5 year old in a group with 6 & 7 year olds because they had no room in the 5's (something they did not tell me when they took my check). The counselors were not at all trained and there were simply too many children. My daughter complained the she had to sit out during free swim because she didn't have a buddy - these counselors made a 5 year old sit out while all of the other children swam. They didn't even ask her and basically didn't seem to care. I had to call to complain many times. The directors seemed to be responsive and caring but the staff was not capable. I do not know why this camp has such a good reputation.

This camp is VERY overcrowded. There is a reason parents are not allowed on grounds during arrival and dismissal...its because they will count the buses and know the true numbers. Trust me, I was a counselor there this summer. The owners of this camp lie to prospective parents faces. There are over 1000 kids on this small, congested piece of land. Swim is good, facilities are alright. This camp is already extremely overpriced, and you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere without the 1 hour bus ride if you're coming from NYC.

We love Camp Hillard. It is so untrue the camp is not crowded, these people must be talking about a different camp. My kids have been going for the past 5 summers. The Camp is so well run, the staff is fantastic The swim program is phenominal! Its the best camp and all my friends love it too!

A solid, traditional day camp with particularly good swim instruction. The owners are a constant presence at the camp all summer long and are available and responsive to parents concerns.The facilities could be updated a bit, but otherwise,a very down to earth, comfortable environment for kids!
