Click to report rating    7/13/23   1     1     1     1     1   Both of my kids got BULLIED here. The staff are young teens who don't care for the kids at all. Do not make the mistake of sending your kids here. RID: 53764

Click to report rating    5/15/17   1     2     2     1     1   Booked forMothers day weekend. Explained we needed a certain area of camp for various reasons. Was promised this, yet when we arrived at camp this was not so. Turned around and went back home. Sarah the "director" admits it was totally their fault so how come I can't get a refund.? Even suggested the camp keep $100.00 although we didn't stay the night and ate nothing but they still want to keep 80 percent of the money. How this is fair when the admitted the mistake was theirs I just can't understand. RID: 50729
Click to report rating    1/10/17   3     3     2     2     4   This camp is going down, down, down.... during the last 10 years we have been sending kids there and finally we stopped. Just can't bear to see deterioration of the general level of this camp. I absolutely agree that staff has inadequate training. Although I never thougt of it in terms of training. I found that staff acting as if they are afraid to take any responsibility and often they are acting as if they have to do things with which they do not even agree. I had an impression that campers were looking wary as if they were in special program for delinquent children. I mean general atmosphere is not at all comfortable and relaxed. Visiting other children (in other cabins) is not allowed, changing activities is not allowed (once you signed up for one). My kids gave me a list of restrictions that made me wonder if anyone trust their own judgment in this camp. How are they supposed to learn? No, I would not recommend this camp. I am not an insider but something is not right. RID: 50340
Click to report rating    8/14/16   1     1     1     1     1   Camp Wanakita isn't much fun. I went there and I was literally counting down the days until I got to leave. Everyone (staff included)was really rude and they even called me names. The staff there don't care about camper's personal needs. The food there is alright, but it is always the same and it's very unhealthy! Hot dogs, burgers, meat wraps and pizza are alright when you have them once, but after a while everybody starts getting stomach aches. The activities are tiring and most of them are boring. You can only do two activities the whole time you are there. You don't even get to try half of the activities there are! The facilities are usually clean but they are not very comfortable. I never slept at night because my bed felt like torture. There is also a very short canoe trip on the same lake. This canoe trip is not long enough at all. It is honestly no fun. Wanakita is not a good choice of camp. I would choose another camp like Camp Temagami, Glen Bernard camp, or Arrowhead camp. RID: 49947

If your child is interested in going to this camp send them, it will be your best decision. After all Wanakita IS THE PLEACE WHERE YOU HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!! RID: 48253
Click to report rating    7/20/14   3     4     4     3     2   I came into this camp as a new member of he senior staff team. After having worked in various other camps for the past 6 years, this camp is fairly average. It excels in some places, and falls short in others. Wanakita is a great place for the campers, in general the counselling and resource staff do a great job. However, the camp needs to put a much stronger focus on training their staff team to work together as adults, and not revert back into the same dramatic childishness they were used to as campers. Though composed of staff who love camp, many have never worked anywhere else, and haven't developped the conflict resolution skills to effectively work in such close quarters with their peers. The biggest downfall of Wanakita is their lack of staff training in that one vital area. If they improved that, all areas of their program would improve as well. If you are considering coming here as a new staff member... I do not recommend it. Do not expect to be welcomed, or even acknowledged RID: 47648
Click to report rating    1/28/13   5     5     5     5     5   such an unreal camp, couldn't ask for anything better. note that the complaints are things that would pretty much be the same at any other camp. wanakita is the best of the best, going there is the best months of my life RID: 43514

Click to report rating    9/29/10   4     3     3     3     3   It's an okay camp. Went there for two summers. Staff was okay, some seemed to favor some campers over the others. I got stuck in an extremely snobby cliquey cabin, but the other cabins seemed nice so i guess it depends where you are. Food is okay, not great, and there isn't much to do. Go to onondaga! RID: 34162

Click to report rating    1/24/08   4     3     5     3     5   I believe that this camp is a great place to have a traditional camp experience with a couple extra thrills. However, don't expect a 5 star meal or bathrooms. The camp is always expanding and the family camp is very popular. Be sure to register soon cuz spots are full by march. RID: 19369
Click to report rating    1/22/08   5     5     5     5     5   I love camp Wanakita, it's my 6th year as a Wanakita member and am hoping to be a Junior/Intermediate counsellor this summer. I noticed one person gave really poor ratings, and I would just like to say I'm sorry that you had a bad experience and hope that maybe you'll come back and try to have more fun next time. RID: 19307
Click to report rating    12/12/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love Wanakita with my whole heart. Great facilities, the best food you'll find at any camp, and staff is compossed of the most caring and considerate and the greatest people I've ever known. And someone complained about mosquitoes?!?!?!?! There will be mosquitoes anywhere in Ontario.... RID: 17942
Click to report rating    12/4/07   5     5     5     5     5   I'm 30 yrs old now. From age 7-13, every year in August, I attended this camp. I loved (and still love) Camp Wanakita. It is a wonderful experience to have as a child and a great place to develop friendships and independence. I wish I were young again so that I could go back. Really a wonderful, wonderful camp. Oh, and it is also very beautiful! RID: 17694

Click to report rating    2/21/07   4     5     5     5     5   I was a camper and am now on staff. I've always found the previous staff to be caring and considerate. The facilities are always kept in great condition and the variety of programs appeals to hundreds. I admire their contributions to needs of campers with any background. I've found that Wanakita is hard to be what you want it to be; it will just become something wonderfull on its own. Though staff can have ups and downs, very few times are children left with a bad experience the camp has not already dealt with. The staff should get paid more for what they do. To provide all the safety and care into an entire summer deserves at the least, minimum wage. All and all, my favorite place in the world. The things that need changing, can still be fixed. RID: 8006
