Community and belonging — parent testimonial

"The team at Beaver makes summer what we most hope for our kids, and for that we thank you all for your hard work, careful planning, creativity, tireless positive energy, and commitment to creating a space where kids feel connected." — Beaver Parent

Inclusive community — Beaver's commitment

We take a strengths-based approach with kids; we want to build positive relationships with them and nurture an environment where they can create meaningful friendships with others. Kids need places where they can be their whole selves. And be themselves as a valued and integral part of a group. At Beaver, we are committed to fostering a connected and inclusive community where all feel a sense of belonging.

Themes & shared moments

Food — daily meals included, gluten-free and kosher options

Morning snacks and daily lunches are included in your child's Beaver experience. We offer gluten-free lunch and snack alternatives each day. Beaver Summer Camp does not maintain a kosher certified kitchen, but we do have kosher diet friendly items. Group Counselors serve the meals and dine with campers, providing a relaxed, fun setting where the conversation and laughter flow freely. Friday BBQs are a weekly tradition.

Growing confidence & friendships

Leadership team — director tenure and experience

Sue Leip, Director, is entering her 32nd season at Beaver. Associate Director Tara Paulauskas, LICSW, joined the camp team full-time in 2022 after starting at Beaver Country Day School in 2001. Assistant Director Joe Solof joined the summer team in 2011. Operations Manager Eileen McGurn is celebrating 17 summers at Beaver.

Grades 5-7 — autonomy and program options

Our oldest campers get the most autonomy to tailor their activities to their current interests while still building important social connections within the community. Whether your child is interested in building a summer schedule that includes 1 or 2-week experiences that take deeper dives into particular content areas or they are looking for a diverse General Camp experience full of choice, we've got the program for your camper.

Health staff — nurses on campus daily

Each day, from 8:00am until 5:00pm, we have two staff nurses on campus. Should your child need it, our Health Staff are here to dispense medicine per doctor's orders, treat illnesses, and administer first aid.

For parents & families

Food allergies — nut-safe policy and protocols

Beaver is NUT-SAFE. There are no peanuts or tree nuts served and there are no hidden nut products found in our foods, with the exception of our vegan cheese product which contains coconut oil. Families are able to provide food from home for any camper with a documented dietary restriction or allergy. Our food service staff is trained and certified in ServSafe and allergy management in the kitchen. Our camp staff receives extensive food allergy training and closely supervises all meals with their campers.

Safety protocols and staff supervision training

We've developed a host of safety procedures and protocols at Beaver and routinely review them through practice drills and simulations. Our staff are thoroughly trained in effective supervision skills, so you know your child is being closely monitored in our pools, on our athletic fields, all across our campus, and on all off-campus trips.

Transportation — bus service and safety features

Safe transportation to and from camp is the name of the game. Let your camper start and finish their day by enjoying the ride on the bus with fellow campers and our trained staff bus monitors. Serving the surrounding communities of Brookline, Boston, and Newton, Beaver transportation features buses that are owned, operated and serviced by a professional bus company, equipped with seat belts, and driven by experienced professionals who have Massachusetts School Bus Commercial Driver's Licenses, outstanding driving safety records, and have passed frequent background checks.
