My daughter has had a possitive experience at Brookwood Camps from day 1. She looks forward to going back each summer and the memories and friendships she has made will last a lifetime. The directors know each child by name and really try to make their summers a possitive learning experience. Yes the facilities were a little run down when we began there, but over the last 5 years there have been major improvements. The grounds the camp is located on can not be matched by any camp I have ever seen. My daughter can not wait to go back again this summer and I know that I can rest easy knowing that she is well cared for during her time away.

This is in rebuttal for the review a few down from this. The person who wrote this is most likely the staff/parent who was asked to leave camp. She was unable to adapt to staff policies. She followed her kids around daily. I am a Staff/Parent who has witnessed her lack of boundaries. Brookwood is not corp owned and the owners are on hand 24/7. There is clear leadership demonstrated. The head counselors have been there for almost 30 years combined. There is a large repeat staff. New improvements include the indoor facility/dance studio, beautiful pool with water slides, the Health Ctr which is fully staffed with Dr/Nurses at all times. Brookwood emphasizes sports, other activities are offered based on the expertise of current staff. The kitchen prepares well balanced, tasty meals. Fresh fruits are provided. There are vending machines stocked with water, gatorade and soda. The Red Cross visited this summer and was extremely impressed with the level of safety and waterfront faciliti

My family had a wonderful experience at Brookwood camp! As a parent working at camp, I saw first hand the guiding force of the directors, Kenny and Scotty who provided a fun, safe and enriching environment while setting clear limits for campers and staff. Brookwood camp is not a bells and whistles type of camp; instead it is family run with definable values and capitalizes on its beautiful natural settings with a healthy concentration on sports and outdoor play. Participation regardless of skills is highly encouraged and individual growth, social skills and acceptance are targeted. The head counselors are veteran and seasoned educators who are dedicated to the well being of the campers 24/7. We found the staff to be talented, educated, wonderful people, who have become close friends. Brookwood does not try to be all things to all people but is does succeed in being a wonderful place for a child to spend the summer growing and taking healthy risks to become a well-rounded individual.

I was a JC at Brookwood in the '80's. It was the best summer of my life. When I finally got the chance to work at camp the only one I could think about spending the summer was Brookwood. My kids moved to this camp and it exceeded their expectations. The sports was amazing, the care and attention given to my children was incredible. The food was wonderful. The staff loving. I myself met wonderful friends who I speak with daily and miss hourly. Kenny, Donna and Scott run this camp as a camp should be run. It is run by family and every person staff or camper is treated as such. It may not be as fancy as other camps but it has more in ways that cannot be priced. When my children get older they will remember the friends they made, the great times they shared and the memories that will never been forgotten. That is the true meaning of summer camp. Thank you to the Fiedlers for all the lives they have touched and enriched.

What struck me most about our families camp experience was seeing my 13 year old son hugging his fellow campers while saying goodbye to the summer of 09. Without being there at camp on a day to day basis I can only imagine that my son and his 2 brothers were well cared for, challenged and given the opportunity, through Brookwood's resources, to grow. We look forward to many more summers at Brookwood, thanks Uncle Kenny!

There is nothing appealing about this camp to be honest, the staff is cruel to the counselors and campers, the facilities like the cafeteria are worn down and broken and probably infected with germs, the activities are pretty damn boring, there is NO personal attention given to counselors or campers, and lastly of course this camp is very expensive and believe me if your gonna work there your better off working at your local burger king. The food there is probably healthier there anyway. LOL

As a parent, I had seen Brookwood before. This time I must commend them for having the experience and expertise to "fix" what a "corporate" camp couldn't address in my child. Family owned camps deliver the attention that parents demand. Brookwood in NY has brand new health center with private exam rooms, the best new outdoor pool that I have ever seen at a NY camp, an incredible hardball field that was clear amid the year's worst rainstorms and the sparkling new dance hall. Thumbs up for all.

Except for one complaint the bad reviews sold me on the camp. Most camps have the counselers unpack for the kids. They also have the counselers load the kids suit case in the car when they leave. YMCA kids arn't rich spoiled kids is why. I don't agree with the policy, that being said, quit whining, one bad and i might add standard policy does not make a whole camp bad. For those who agree with the policy, I think it does undermine building a campers character. That being said, WHATEVER!!!

brookwood is a horrible place to work. they pay much less than most camps and do not treat the staff with any respect. i understand that it's a job and we're not there for our own fun, but there is no excuse for the way they treat their staff. counselors are barely a few years older than some campers and don't deserve to be treated like s**t for a low-paying summer job. a lot of people may think we're just lazy college students, but we're someone's child too and how would like your child to be treated like crap, and be demeaned and degraded on a daily basis?

I H8 BROOKWOOD!!! Horrible!!!!! Worst camp evr!!! How much time you got? I can post this at least once more often than you can delete it. Looks like you have a lot of time, but guess what? I'm on all day long, so I can keep it going. Plus, until they are actually deleted, the rating is affected. You should have just left my original post alone. Now it's worse. Good going.

wow this camp is so bad the female group leader/head person/whatever is soo rude to the counselors one time she berated me in front of my girl campers for no reason. i definitely agree that the owners do not back the counselors like one person said below. i wish they had had all the "i hate brookwood/don't work at brookwood/i survived brookwood camp" facebook groups to warn me when i worked there.if you are a prospective counselor you really need to check the testimonials of the former counselors because they will tell you the truth.most of these ratings are from brookwood ownership.you can tell

This is a great camp. The fields are beautiful and the new pool is amazing. The activities are run very well. The camp participates in many tournaments. All kids are encouraged to play in all sports, no matter their level. The Fiedlers run a great camp!!!!!!!!!!

I worked at Brookwood this past summer and can honestly say that it was the most rewarding experience of my life! The kids are amazing, the staff is great, and overall Brookwood is one of the most open and diverse camps. I still talk to a lot of the counselors and camperes, and I can guarantee these are lasting friendships. Brookwood is a great place, and if you send your children here or decide to work here it will be a great experience.

It is unfortunate that they allow anyone to come on this site and talk trash about a great camp. Referring mostly to the rate below me who complained to worlds end about PREPARING THE CAMP FOR THE KIDS TO COME, the camp is for the kids not for you. Counselors tend to forget that they are there for a JOB and not solely for fun. Unpacking the kids and preparing the equipment before camp makes the transition easier for all the children to just enjoy their first day of camp. The health center does great but your outdoors 24/7 they can't coddle you for every little cut. If they did that they would have 200 kids just hanging out at the infirmary all day. There is many more great things to say but they would all be lost on these simple minded, immature counselors who keep posting bad ratings because they didn't have "fun". Brookwood is great, enough said.

I have attended brookwood as a camper as well as a counselor. I went as a camper for 3 summers and just recently as a couselor. I've had experiences both good and bad, which comes with any camp. But I wouldn't change a thing between the arguments, sometimes tedious night activities and the fun times at night and the amazing friends I made in both campers and counselors. Each summer I attended, I grew as a person, learning about other people and my self. I had a lot of new experiences and grown as an athlete too. I loved the combination of both artistic and physical talent during color compeetitions. All the injuries and hard work during sports competitions was well worth it as well. Like any camp, you either hate it or love it. Though every camp has its downside, I can never forget the friends I've made and the experiences I've shared. As for the camp itself, the Fiedlers have have numerous renovations to the camp in the past years, including a new pool and an all purpose studio.

I would have to say the reason I am giving Brookwood such a bad rating is the way they treat the counselors there, it just isn't right. The pay is bad, but that isnt half of it. They really do treat you like CRAP there unless you are very close to the Fiedlers. Now if you want to send your kid there I would not reccommend it because I hear all types of horror stories about Brookwood, but I can certainly tell you not to work there if you are considering it. You don't have to believe me either, I believe there is even a facebook group about people who survived Brookwood.

Had to finally write after reading all of the ridiculous posts by obviously former disgruntled counselors, even one that waited 20 years supposedly. I have been working for the Fiedler's for 20 years now and they are wonderful people both to campers, parents and staff members who do their jobs. I started as a general counselor and have worked my way up the ranks over the last 20 years. When Scott joined the camp about 10 years ago the warmth and family feeling got even better he treats everyone great. The rest of the Fiedlers have always treated everyone like family and once again there are a million staff members who loved their time working for these wonderful people they just don't write about it like i didn't until now. Also know that several of the bad post were by the same people over and over again. If you want to send your child to a camp or want to work at one and be part of a thing bigger than yourself join the BROOKWOOD FAMILY, you won't regret it.

I have been going to this camp since I was 6, coming back it will be my eight year. Yes the Fielder family can be cheap and stingy, and yes we do watch Lakonda's fireworks on the 4th of July but the kids who come back don't come for the sports, they go for their friends. The counsleurs sometimes are bad like Doerflinger but mostly they are amazing (Willie) If your social then go to Brookwood, if your not NEVER GO

Brookwood is the best camp ever!! I have been going for 3 years now and i wouldn't think of going anywhere else. The Fiedler's treat you like family and most of the counselors are great. I decided to rate because i am tired of seeing the few disgruntled counselors that rate our great camp negatively several times each. We will be on MTV on January 3rd so you can see what Brookwood is all about first hand.

Brookwood is a great camp. I have been a parent for several years and am tired of all of these first time or disgruntled counselors bad mouthing a terrific camp. The firewood pick up is for rope burning during color war which i believe just about every camp in the northeast does. Obviously if these counselors went to camp before they would know that. We send our children to Brookwood because it is well run and the Fiedler's are on top of everything that goes on at camp!!

I have finally decided to write on this because Brookwood doesn't deserve any rating but a 5. Almost all of the negative comments have come from counselors and from experience it was probably the counselors that we look at and wonder why they were there in the first place. All I have to say is that this is a JOB and a very difficult one at that. It is not a vacation or a party and if you think it is i'll tell you right now don't accept the job, the summer can be a great a you want to make it or has bad as you choose to make it. Brookwood is a GREAT camp, every summer the campers come in with smiles on their faces and they leave with tears because they don't want to leave. It has nothing do with the food(which for camp food is not bad at all), and it has nothing do with how much you are getting paid. Camp is for the kids not the counselors but if your a good one brookwood turns into your family. I've been a counselor there for a couple of summers and i can't wait for summer 2009!

Most of the bad reviews seem to come from counselors who are lazy college students just looking to screw off for 2 months. They come and go every summer and all they care about is their nights out and getting over on the Head Counselors. FYI - Camp isn't for you. It is for my kids and all the kids in camp. If you want to be lazy and do nothing... Stay home - PLEASE! There are some great staff members that have been back year after year and do a great job. Every year my kids have been there, the owners have put money into a new upgrade. The pool is one of the nicest in the camping industry. My son is only 10 and has been there 4 years and can't wait to go back. As far as the "canteen money" is concerned... It is not for buying items in the canteen only! It is for the rental of buses for special events and trips. It is for drivers, gas and vehicles to transport the kids to intercamps and tournaments (has anyone checked the price of gas lately?!) and (also) it is for canteen.

Yet another first time counselor who didn't know anything about camp bad mouthing our wonderful camp. I have worked at Brookwood for a couple of years now and cannot have been treated any better than i have been. The counselors are great as well as the leadership and upper staff. There is only confusion if you don't want to work and therefore create it yourself otherwise leadership is pretty straight forward about what the job is and what to expect. I love Brookwood and will work again this summer so future counselors it is a great place to work.

I'm only 14 yrs old & don't know if this is for me but BROOKWOOD is THE BEST !! My parents told me what camp was like when they were kids & this feels like it. When they went to camp there was no mountain biking, lacrosse, hip hop dance, swimming pools and stuff like that. But, they made the best friends of their lives they said. I feel the same way. Except now we text and facebook each other during the winter. I feel it is even better cause Brookwood makes me feel like camp is what parents had but with a 2008 update to it. We had some evening activities and the whole camp was rockin and singing together with arms around each other. My friends at other camps said they felt like it was just like a school day, never a chance to just let loose and have some fun. BROOKWOOD NATION is numero uno ! Mountain Conference Camp Champs again.

What a horrible, horrible experience this camp is. The only people who are writing positive reviews for this are people who've been there since they were 5 so they don't even know how bad this camp is. You have NO FREEDOM TO DO ANYTHING YOU WANT, FOOD SUCKS, ALL THE COUNSELERS ARE DISRECTFUL TO COUNSELORS AND CHILDREN AND ALL CHILDREN ARE DISRESPECTFUL TO CHILDREN AND COUNSELORS, the list goes on believe me. This is an unsatisfied boy who was in the highest boy's division and had one of the worst times of his life. I URGE you not to send your kid their or go their yourself.

Friends, we will always be at Brookwood. Yup, ww're the Brookwood Nation. Amazing Blue & Gold ! I'm a former camper, now counselor so I have seen it from both ends. I liked it when my counselors were actively involved during sports when I was a camper, u know, making sure we all hit the ball, the same person didn't get all the passes or take all the shots. Now I see how important they made everyone feel (I am not the greatest athlete but I like to play). Same holds true for tournaments,I see all the effort we put in to make sure anyone who wants to be a part of a team, plays in Mt Camp Conference tourneys. No one feels left out. Always words of encouragement. So,I tried to give my campers back what someone else did for me,& it feels even better to be the giver rather than the recepient. My campers smiles were greater than any homerun or goal I ever scored. Funny, I'm 19 & alot to learn.Other camps had 17 yr olds running things-when you're 10, u don't any better - same for some parents.

this camp is on a nice piece of land and has alot of potential but the owners have a way of saying one thing and doing another in regards to the counselors and the campers (the counselors mainly). they confiscate cell phones, dont allow for much interaction between the male and female counselors, and take away free time depending on how they feel that particular day. the campers are great though and as long as they are paying then they are in the clear of the ownership's wrath. with the advent of the internet it has become more difficult for the ownership to lie to the new batch of counselors each year because there is more of a paper trail as to what the truth is concerning working conditions. and former disgruntled employees who previously had nowhere to complain to now have the pulpit of the internet to alert future employees of what to expect. the lake is very beautiful the bar isnt far from the camp which is good because there is alot to drink about.

The camp is good but the owners are very cheap and then complain about every little thing. If you go to the camp bring alot of your own food because the food at the camp is terrible and gives everyperson stomach aches. The staff are nice but the owners are NOT and they are very cheap so they try evry way to make money off of you. The rooms are small and they are uncomfortable.

Just got home and miss my friends at camp the most. So boring waiting for my parents to drive me here and there. Never a dull moment at Brookwood, kids like to do things rather than sit around. My 5th summer at Brookwood and when I go there at 10 yrs old Kenny, Scott, Ken & their wives really made sure we did things like brush teeth, make beds, put sun screen on, catch, throw, run, hit, sing, dance etc. The reason I say this is that I was a big brother to a new camper this year it made me think back how someone was so nice to me and I got a chance to help someone else out.My friend from back home is going to be 16 next year and she will be a counselor next summer at this camp in PA. She can't even go 5 min without texting someone - glad I can still be a camper at Brookwood ! Kids visit from other camps saying I wish my parents sent me here. They feel like they are at a big day camp where they are at but Brookwood looks like a sleepaway camp.

i was a former camper here for two years and my second year was a completely terorizing visit i slightly mis behaved and the owners feel that they know all so the moved me up in an age devison and gave the older kids promission to beat on me i-e during footbal i would be tackled when not carrying the ball and when i addresed this with the boys head counslour he told me to man up . after being harrased and assulted for over a week i was yet again moved bunks although back to my normal age devision i was moved to a bunk away from my friends. each time someone acts up at this camp the feidlers take it way out of proportion and make the campers either sit out in a feild at night when other campers are at canten or they make campers miss events such as carnival or a disco to pick up trash. the owners are very cheap people they make teens pay to work for them kenny makes a waiter pay multiple thousands of dollars just to work everyday and get a small amount of tips. i'd rather die then visit

Just came back from visiting day, my son is having a GREAT summer and can't wait to go back next year. The counselors are caring and really took the time to get to know the kids. I know they don't have as many extras like zip line and go carts like other camps (it would be nice if they did) but what they do have is a great athletic program and lake activities that all the kids enjoy, not just the best athletes. My son doesn't miss the "other acivities" because he is happy with what this camp has to offer. It seems as though it is alot of money for what they offer based on what other camps offer, but how can you put a price on your childs happiness, my son is happy and having a great camp experience, there is no guarantee that he would have as good of an experience at one of the other camps with more to offer. They must be doing something right.

It's not perfect, but Brookwood was a great place to work. What most fist year counselor often don't understand is that you are there to make the summer great for the KIDS, not for yourself. It's hard work, but if you concentrate on them you're going to have a great summer. I love my campers and them telling me at the end of the summer that they really liked having me as a counselor was the best tip I could get. I was only able to work one year and was sad I was unable to return. The kids always seem to have a good time and leave at the end of the summer with great memories.

I am parent who has been sending my three children to Brookwood for the past five years. NO CAMP IS PERFECT, but Brookwood comes very close. The owners are there every second of the day, and ontop of the staff and campers, providing a safe, and wonderfull experience.

Hi, former camper here. I did not have a very good expirence at this camp. Most of the kids were unpleasant characters who obviously lacked respect for authority. (This is the only place in the world I've heard a nine year old tell an adult to f*** off without any correction on a regular basis.) The facilitlies were not maintained well and the activities were not as advertised on the Brookwood website. Most of our activities were repetitive. I can also tell you about the staff. Almost all of the staff was miserable and swore that they would never come back to camp. Many of them were home sick and overworked, therefore they could not provide the personal attention that many of us, especially the little kids, needed. The staff in my bunk behaved a lot like children. Parents can call campers (but camper's end of the conversation is monitered by a senior staff member.) Children can not call parents. This is all a shame because if things were a bit different, the camp could be really nice.

This'll be my 3rd year at Brookwood. It is an awesome camp! The directors are kind and friendly. The new pool is amazing. The athletic instruction is very good, and the overall camping expierience is one you'll never forget.

I love camp. i am going on my 5th summer. I love everyone there, all the campers, counselors and of course, Kenny, Donna, Scotty and definitely Ellen considering i see her every day, literally. these bad ratings are all by counselors, who do not know what camp is all about, and only go for the money, its not about money. it about the kids, and having fun. there should be no cell phone because, why would u waste the time you get with all ur great camp friends, by using a stupid cell phone, summer is only once a year, u may not see your camp friends till the next summer, u may not even see them again at all, so why waste your time texting and calling people from home, u may as well stay home and miss the fun. its called SNAILMAIL!!!!! Ever hear of it?. I’m pretty sure u did. And STOP SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT MY CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thank you. xoxoxo Br0oKw0oD cAmPs RoCkS P.s only 32 days till I’m wit my CAMPIES. ilovebwcsooomuch<3333333333333333333333333333

i used to send my kid to brookwood but after looking into other camps in the region,i decided to send my kid elsewhere.the value of what youre child gets for 9000(tuition,canteen)is not very good.brookwood is the only camp in the usa that does not have a major indoor facility to house the whole camp for shows, sports activities and other indoor stuff.when it rains day or night there is nothing to do.you get stuck in the bunk or dining room.for 9000 thats preetty poor.the owners made a big deal about the new pool.hello every camp in the country has a pool.so i dont think its such a big deal.the night trips and outside entertainment stinks.only ron dagon for the millionith time.bowling 2 times and roller skating 3 times and no movie last year.the owners ars cheap .the end of summer trips leave in the afternoon to get the cheap rate after 4.only have 3 hours in park.dont send your child to brookwood.i experieced it.check out other camps.you will see the more value you get for your dollar!

My kids are starting their 3rd summer at Brookwood. If you are not from the Northeast the whole camp scene could be an eye opener. The day camp my children went to is nearly $7K for the summer this year so sleepaway is a bargain for me. I don't have pricing shock about the cost of camp but if you're from elsewhere it appears some of the people rating camps need to understand the culture here. The smart ones get it, the dumb ones complain on the internet. When we travel on vacation the different people and values we encounter is something to appreciate but, this is an adult writing and not the 21 year old who needs to grow up. Why I am on this website ? My neighbor is switching her kids to Brookwood from what they thought was the top camp in our area and she asked me if what she read was true about Brookwood on this campratings. Her previous camp the kids did whatever they wanted (& that meant sitting around alot) and had teenagers running activities and groups. Not the case at Brookwoo

The campers are GREAT and I will miss them horribly but the upper staff treat the counselors like crap. We don't get out on time on our days and nights off and there's just a lot of behind the scenes things that parents and campers don't know about.

that counselor who keeps writing reviews sounds like my co counselor from last year. Sorry, camp is for the kids & not you. 9 months later she has nothing better to do with her life than write these things, U got this job cause your mom told u to get off your butt and your boyfriend from home was tired of your complaining - I had a great summer, going back, changed majors to education and want to run a camp someday. Owners were fine, tough job to be responsible for hundreds of kids & I understand the pressure for their safety. By the way, like 80% of the college kids who worked last summer are coming back and all the adults. I saw that message about cost of camp and trips. My girlfriend worked at another camp 2 yrs ago & the kids were rude and spoiled & their tuition etc was more than ours, Their campers went nowhere and had to use their own spending money on trips.

As a former camper who now sends my children to Brookwood it is amazing the things that are being said about this wonderful camp. I have known the owners since i am 8 and they are nothing but terrific people who took great care of me and now my children. It seems to me like the same disgruntled counselor keeps writing negative stuff about the camp.

My kids were campers & staff at Brookwood The owners take a special interest in the kids, not locked up in an office all day, really out there & getting a 1st hand knowledge of what is going on. I am happy for the fact that my kids got real instruction in arts, athletics etc from an adult & some 20 yr old was not in charge like the very expensive camp my sister sends her kids to. Yes, my children were told no they can't use a cell phone in camp, they can't tease other kids, can't curse at friends & staff. They never went hungry, they always had sun screen on, their laundry was clean. No camps are inexpensive but I got my monies worth plus some. As far as staff members go, my friends kids are 17 year old counselors at some very high name camps, not what I paid for. Every camp around has dumb counselors & if you read closely many of the disgruntled staff members can't even spell. Enough said. When my kids were counselors at Brookwood they told me that after a bad thunderstorm there was

Brookwood is the most amazing place on earth. I have worked for the Fiedler's for 20 years and they treat me terrifically because i do my job. Obviously alot of sour grapes from either fired or disgruntled employees. The owners have spent alot of money over the last 20 years and the facilities are nice and the swimming pool is amazing. I will continue to work here for years to come as i love both the campers, staff and owners.

BWC is a great place. The website may list activities that don't exist but its not the "olympic size pool" or "rock climbing" that would determine the quality of your summer. My older bro first attended bwc in 97 when it was completely run down and had the time of his life. I attended bwc as a camper for the past 7 years and had loved every minute of it, as I met my best friends there. This is definately not a camp filled with spoiled, rich kids. This camp is filled with genuine, down to earth people that become your friends for a lifetime. I still speak to my friends that i met 7 years ago, almost every day. And i still speak to counselors that i became close to.You'll enjoy it if you can give it a chance, see past the not so amazing facilities and the money hungry owner, and realize that its about the friends you meet and the memories u make there. ur kid wnt remember how many sq feet the pool was but theyll remember how sad it was on the last day saying goodbye to 300 amazing people.

this camp is pocketing all your money. i've seen other $8000 camps in the area and they have much nicer facilities.other camps have real gymastics and exercise equipment, not sad excuse of the tin can.the water tastes like it's filled with chlorine, and the kids refused to drink it because it gave them stomachahes.the only nice things about brookwood is the new pool but believe me, there are many camps in NY that have nice pools and it didn't take them till 2007 to start spending some money to make one. other camps have let the kids try different activities and have many options including rock walls, and rope courses but all my kids did was play nukem and basketball everyday. they never got to try archery, flag football, and they played golf and went waterskiing twice.i've seen some pretty bad camps before, but brookwood is one the cheapest, and most disgusting. SEND YOUR KIDS SOMEWHERE ELSE! if your going to pay the money, you might as well actually get a nice camp out of it

As a counselor for my first time this year, I feel as if I had the best experience! I loved the kids, the camp, and the owners. It really does feel like a second home when you are away from yours for so long. I feel that the owners are great people who always put the CHILDREN first in every circumstance. I am so glad that I got the chance to come here and will be here for a quite a few years after this year. I love the kids so much and they are a big reason i loved camp so much! I would suggest to send your kids here because it is a great place!!!

I worked at brookwood for two years and have direct knowledge of the money being spent to improve the camp (as I was hired to work on a 'new' activity) ... I'm also an International counselor - and whilst I can understand a lot of the negative views expressed, I disagree totally with them. First off the counselors, Yes Ken is hard on them - he was hard on me - I even quit once!, but that does one of two things to people it either shows someone how lazy they are, or helps to build a fair understanding of life in University Students who dont understand life yet.. Secondly, the camp/campers... All in all 70% of the campers are great, 20% ok, and 10% wont be back, you get the 70/20/10 everywhere... As to the camp yes it's run down, yes it's not perfect and yes it's expensive - but coming from my view as a counselor (hoping to actually go back after being absent for 3 yrs!) work is being done, money is being spent and rome isn't built in a day... it is something I'd recommend to anyone.

I sent my children to this camp THINKING that they would get to try a variety of activities, but I was told by all of them that they did the same activities everyday. I was told they would have private instructon, which they did not. I was charged about $70 for each of my children to go a trip, that consisted of riding a bus for over an hour, to bowl for an hour, then ride the bus back. My youngest son (7) was kept up until at least 11 p.m. every night. The building looks like they are goping to fall off their supports. The only thing I can say was good about their experience was that my daughter had a group leader who was roughly my age(45), and was very nurturing and attentive to my daughter and the girls in her division. She would sneak food to all the girls, (including counselors who were high school students) when they were starving, which was almost every night. The dining floors were never mopped, and the bathrooms were only cleaned prior to parents day. owners were nasty 2 kids

I personally witnessed a camp counselor belittle a child at a basketball tournament against other camps. He told the kid he was not playing good enough and he would end up being like Adam Sandler in Waterboy. This was so disturbing to see because I think the counselor was one of the parents at the camp. They also supply their own refs for tournament games and the refs make lousy calls and don't keep time well. If they are mainly a sports camp then what they are teaching is how to cheat in a game. Sad, really sad.

This is my son's first year at Brookwood and he is having the time of his life. He made friends easily and loves his counselors. The athletic instruction in all areas are superior to those at other camps. These are professional qualified instructors, not parents working at camp because their kids go to camp for free. There may not be zip line and go carts but what they have is quality supervision and instruction. The lakefront is beautiful and the new pool looks great.

I am shocked to see some of the negative postings. Sour grapes... I guess. The Camp has come a long way since the owners from Lenni-len-a-pe took over a completely delapidated camp. Each year they make more and more improvements. I have know the Fiedlers for a long time and they are very demanding of the counselors and many of them don't like it. However, as a parent, I appreciate the fact that they are in complete and total control of the staff. Being responsible for 300 children is no easy task. The girls side leaders are nuturing and fun. My daughter loved being a camper there for 5 years. My son has been in the boys youngest division since he was 7 and has a great time. The instruction he receives in all sports in unparalled and they camp has dominated athletic intercamp activities since the 80s. The new acquatic center will be one of the greatest facilites amongst all summer camps. I would stronlgy recommend visiting the camp to see how wonderful and scenic it is.

I don't know what the previous posters are talking about, i have been a counselor at this camp for 20 years. I started as a general counselor and have moved up the ranks to be a group leader. The directors even helped me get a full time teaching job with the New York City board of ed. If you do your job and watch the children you will have a blast working here. Being a camp counselor is a job and as long as you understand this and that the children come first you will also have the best summer of your life. Like me there are many staff members that come back year after year at Brookwood and i would recommend working or sending your children to this amazing place.

Brookwood Camps is a great summer camp experience for my children. One is a camper and the other one is on staff. They both love it and think Brookwood is their second home. We do too. Send your kids here and have peace of mind that the directors will know everything that is going on and will do what they say they will do. Can't wait to see the new pool being built for 2007 summer. Great camp, been going for 5 years. It is my second home and the Fiedler's are the best owners in the camping industry, they make it a family and are very concerned about you having fun, making friends and being safe

The best camp ever, the staff really care about the kids and the directors are hands on.

I went to an overnight there with my Day Camp and had a good time. It was the 1st time I swam in a lake and it was cool. This is a sports camp. The camp is very hilly and big.

Both my children go to this camp. I love that it is co-ed and I have a boy and a girl. They have both made great friends and can't wait for the next summer to start. I would highly recommend this camp.
