About Camp Barney Medintz

Age-appropriate sequential programming — new experiences every year

We have developed a sequential program so that every year a camper returns to Camp Barney, he/she can look forward to participating in new programs, activities, trips, and artists-in-residence just for their age group. Different trips for each age group range from kayaking on the Chestatee River to tubing down the Chattahoochee to white water rafting down the Ocoee or Nantahala Rivers.

Clues to fit

Lasting impact — camper testimonial on community, friendship, and becoming a better person

"Camp Barney is meaningful because it teaches lessons that can't be taught anywhere else in the world – community, friendship, love, and happiness. I can honestly say that I feel happiest when I am at camp, and that it has shown me how to be a better person in every way possible." — Jayme D., long-time Camp Barney camper and staff member

Cabin life — campers spend the day with their cabin group

At Camp Barney, campers primarily remain with their cabin group and enjoy activities with their cabin mates. Camp Barney places a great emphasis on the group dynamic, supporting and playing together with counselors who provide continuity and the benefit of being aware of each child's needs. Several times a week, campers enjoy a Chugim or elective period.

Setting — 540-acre facility in the North Georgia mountains

Independence, growth & leadership

Parent testimonial — confidence in camp leadership and safety

"I remain truly in awe of all that you do to constantly improve every year, knowing every face, building an amazing Jewish community, fostering a positive Jewish identity, and instilling confidence in us, the parents, that our kids are taken care of so well." — Erin and Lance C., Camp Barney parents

Parent testimonial — staff kept daughter safe while building independence

"Your staff allowed our daughter to be independent and confident with things she ordinarily would be apprehensive to try. They taught her life lessons that she will take with her forever. Thank you all for keeping her safe and happy and giving her experiences she will get nowhere else." — Ami and David E., Camp Barney parents
