About Camp Chen-A-Wanda

Bunk living — counselor ratio and facilities

The Bunk is where campers learn to live together as a group and the process of acceptance, understanding, patience and coping happen here. Bunk living is a central and key component of the sleep-away experience. Our staff ratio of four to five counselors for every ten to twelve campers ensures the highest level of supervision. Each camper is provided with a personal nightstand. There is a spacious cubby room for their clothes and each bunk has its own bathroom and hot water heater.

New camper belonging — campers spontaneously welcome a touring boy (2026 blog)

As we walked around camp talking about all the things that make Chenny so special, something happened that I never could have planned. A group of boys, his age, walked over to us. Without hesitation, one of them looked at the boy and said, 'Do you want to see our bunk?' Before I knew it, they had completely taken over the tour. They weren't trying to sell camp. They were simply sharing something they loved. The parents eventually looked over at me and smiled. 'I think our son just found his camp.' The future camper looked at his parents, smiled, and said, 'I'm so going here.'

Staff testimonial — Dan from Scotland on his first year at Chenny

There is something special about working at Camp Chen-A-Wanda. As a first-year International counselor, I had no idea what to expect, but from the moment I set foot on camp I realized that I was in a magical place where lasting memories and friendships are made. It's a place that I'm proud and honoured to return to, as this unique experience is incomparable to anything I've ever done. — Dan, Jedburgh, Scotland

Traditions & shared moments

Color War — 5-day team competition (Red & Gold)

Our campers look forward to this insanely fun, team building, 5-day competition where the entire camp is divided into two teams (Red & Gold). This event brings out the best in every camper and staff on camp. We push one another to be the best we can be, we encourage camaraderie and dedication and above all we promote sportsmanship and friendship.

Color War — Apache Relay and Sing traditions (2026 blog)

Apache Relay: Everyone matters in Apache. Every single camper plays an important role. Whether you're being wrapped in toilet paper, sprinting around the Quad Track, creating a giant piece of artwork, or heading into the School of Rock for the infamous 'Unknown,' your contribution matters. Apache isn't won by one superstar. It's won by everyone working together. Color War Sing: Each song told a story. Each verse carried meaning. And when both teams stood together to sing their Alma Mater, you could feel the emotion as we all know summer is coming to a close.

Independence, growth & leadership

Color War — sportsmanship and leadership at Evening Line-Up (2026 blog)

One camper was applauded for making three incredible catches during a flag football game. Another was recognized, not for scoring points, but for showing remarkable sportsmanship by congratulating the opposing team after a loss. In the middle of the most competitive week of the summer, one of the biggest cheers of the night came because someone chose kindness. That says everything about what Color War is really about. Watching the expressions on those campers' faces when their names were called was priceless. They stood a little taller. Their teammates erupted. And for this moment, they felt seen.
