Parent testimonial — first-timer confidence, independence, and leadership
Thank you again for such a wonderful three weeks. [Our son] has not stopped talking about camp – he LOVED it! His dad and I were just saying that he seems like a new kid – more confident, independent, flexible, and embracing of opportunities to be a leader. It's magical!
Deerwood is a residential camp for boys aged 8-15 on Squam Lake in Holderness, New Hampshire. Our 6,700-acre "backyard" allows for unlimited fun through numerous waterfront activities and frequent adventures to explore Squam's islands and coves. 90 acres of mature forest overlooking the lake provides ample space for dozens of "Hill" activities and landsports. Deerwood's location is ideal for our many trips, both day and overnight, to the nearby White Mountain National Forest and rivers and lakes of northern New England.
Deerwood provides a mix of unique, annual and weekly events, along with spontaneous activities to take advantage of good weather or embrace the rain. Special Events, such as the Water Battle, July 4th Carnival, Camp Relay, Green Beret Capture the Flag, Clinic Nights and Casino Night are camper favorites. Campfire brings the whole camp together for games, songs, stories, trip reports and recognition of top achievers. Sunday includes a non-denominational chapel service by the lake, an old-fashioned turkey lunch with ice cream and an evening gathering of cabin songs and skits. The day concludes with an opportunity for all to reflect during our renowned Tree-Talk.
Free-choice activity philosophy — independence and pride
Unlike many other camps, the boys are free to choose their activities each day and do not travel from activity to activity with their age-group. This Deerwood philosophy helps foster independence and responsibility in the campers, as well as tremendous pride in their accomplishments.
Parent testimonial — "home away from home," kindness, and confidence to include others
We are so thrilled that [son's name] has found a place that he calls his "home away from home" and his "second family". I love that you instill and nurture the best values and I see how he carries them with him throughout the year and hopefully, throughout his life. When I asked our son who he liked hanging out with the most he said, "Everyone. Anyone. It doesn't matter. Everyone is nice." On the first day of school he mentioned he rounded up three new kids and invited them to sit with his friends at lunch. My first thought was "That's Deerwood in action." Camp gives him the confidence to do things like this.
Start date inferred as same as 1st Session (Jun 26); end date as same as 2nd Session (Aug 14). Older campers (14–15) strongly encouraged to attend this session.
