Daily life — a day at Mah-Kee-Nac, from water to creative spaces
There's a certain rhythm to a day at Mah-Kee-Nac. It might begin on the water — the lake still cool, the air just warm enough to promise what's coming. On the field, focus sharpens. Team sports at Mah-Kee-Nac aren't just about competition — they're about learning how to rely on one another. High above the ground, the ropes course offers a different kind of challenge. In our creative spaces, campers slow down and make something that didn't exist before — a song, a project in the woodshop, or a piece of art that reflects the day. Not one big moment, but hundreds of meaningful ones layered together.
On the Stockbridge Bowl (Lake Mahkeenac) in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts. Only camp on the lake; 1.8-mile lakefront with six miles of shoreline.

Belonging — parent testimonial, son found his people and thrived
Mah-Kee-Nac has been an extraordinary experience for Wyatt. He embraces every opportunity to try new things, builds friendships that last well beyond the summer, and grows more confident and independent every year. He is far from home, yet we have complete peace of mind knowing he is surrounded by incredible counselors and exceptional directors who care for him like family. Mah-Kee-Nac has truly become Wyatt's happy place, and we are so grateful for the community and memories it has given him. — Lori P., parent of Wyatt P. (3rd grade), Plano, TX
Community & belonging — camper quote about MKN being "community over everything"
Jake has been profoundly changed by MKN and not just camp – but Mah-Kee-Nac specifically. He has made friends for life that he sees year round even though they are scattered all over the East Coast. He tells us MKN is a family, "community over everything" – that actually means something huge for him. Jake becomes the best version of himself while at camp. When he's stressed with school, he tries to picture himself back at a Friday huddle at the lakefront or in the dining hall for a dance party and that makes him calm and happy. He bleeds green and white. — Allison and Evan B., parents of Jake B. (11th grade), Rydal, PA
Elective-based program — how campers choose activities
During the days at Mah-Kee-Nac, campers enjoy our Elective-Based Program. Campers choose five activities for their GREEN schedule (3 days) and another five activities for their WHITE schedule (3 days) with one activity each day being a daily elective. Green and White schedules last for three days in a row giving campers an opportunity to try, practice, and succeed at an activity. Each week, our boys change their schedules to include new activities as well as keep ones that they loved for the following week. It allows boys to both try new things and focus on familiar interests. They gain confidence from exploration and from mastery of skills.
Mak Adventure — ropes, climbing, zip-lining, Survival Island
The Mak Adventure Program consists of a wide range of activities delivered by fully trained and experienced instructors, including instructional climbing, zip lining, high/low ropes course, nature sessions, survivor training, campus hikes, overnight hikes, and campouts. Survival Training gives our older campers more in-depth survival skill instructions. The campers that attend these sessions have the opportunity to go on a supervised, 24-hour Survival Island trip to an island in the middle of our lake.
Friday night Huddles — weekly community tradition by the lake
Each Friday evening at camp, we meet at our amphitheater over looking The Bowl to Huddle Up in front of a bonfire. Huddles are an important part of our culture and our commitment to community. It's where brotherhood begins, and at camp…never ends. At our Huddles each week we take a moment to just stop time. We reflect on the weeks past and get excited about whats to come. But most importantly, we take the time to talk about our core values and how each and every one, when demonstrated, makes us the strongest community we can be.
Camp Mah-Kee-Nac was founded in 1929 and has been passing on traditions from generation to generation ever since. Every year we welcome sons, nephews, and grandsons of former campers that want to pass down the beloved memories that they created at Camp. You'll take part in camp-wide events like the beloved Green and White, Olympics and Founders Cup, weekly huddles, polar bear plunges, races, day trips, and so much more.
At Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, boys are empowered by our five core values – respect, friendship, shared pride, perseverance and leadership – to discover the power of their true selves, individually and collectively as a part of our camp community.
Lasting impact — confidence and independence parents notice after camp
Parents often tell us about changes they notice after camp. A little more confidence. More willingness to speak up. The pride that comes from trying something new or getting through a tough day. One parent shared that her son had proved to himself he could do hard things. Of course, boys also come home with camp songs stuck in their heads, stories that take a while to tell, and plans to see their friends. It means even more to hear how the summer stays with them.
Mah-Kee-Nac's menu provides a large variety of nutritious and well-prepared meal selections, and allergy alternatives are available at every meal. Breakfast always consists of a fruit and yogurt bar, assorted cereals and a hot meal which rotates daily. For Lunch, a full salad bar and a make-your-own sandwich/wrap bar always complement the main meal prepared daily by our chef. MKN is a "NUT AWARE" camp and does not use any tree nut/nut products in the kitchen, or allow any snacks on campus that contain tree nuts/nuts or were produced in a facility that contains tree nuts/nuts. We do not serve shellfish or sesame and have a separate side of the kitchen to accommodate a variety of allergies.
