About Camp Menominee

Daily life — a typical day at Menominee

Our boys will run around doing all-camp activities after dinner. Then we will have mandatory daily showers followed by canteen, followed by our evening program. This is where some of our boys really shine. We do skit nights, talent shows, song & cheer nights and a myriad of other events that let our goofy side come out on full display. During the summer, a camper will be able to pick sports to work on fundamentals during instructional activities, teamwork during league play and set up private lessons with our expert coaches.

Clues to fit

Community & belonging — Menominee's diverse, global family

This summer we will have campers from 65 cities in 15 states in 7 different countries around the world. Your son will interact with boys from all different backgrounds and leave camp with an international network of great friends that they will keep in touch with forever.

Community & belonging — The Menominee Way values system

Our system of values is called the Menominee Way. There are six core principles: Attitude — a boy who learns how to express himself can become a man who is resilient, optimistic and open. Leadership — a boy who learns how to step in front can become a man who guides others, well and for good. Heart — a boy who learns to understand and express emotion can become a man who knows empathy, shows caring and grows relationships. Spirit — a boy who learns what he has inside can become a man who finds and fulfills purpose. Determination — a boy who learns to persevere can become a man who reaches his own goals reliably. Sportsmanship — a boy who learns how to win with grace, be part of a team and lose with perspective can become a man who builds community even in the midst of competition.

Goal-setting — individual goals and recognition at Menominee

Before each summer, our directors make time to speak with each camp family about goals and areas of focus for their camper. In addition, each camper will have a goal setting session with our team on the first day of camp. Campers often share goals such as improving golf skills or getting up on water skis. We assign staff members who can help the camper accomplish his goals during the summer. When a camper does something for the first time at camp, we reward their effort. We announce it in front of the whole camp and award a trophy or keepsake.

Traditions & shared moments

Community & belonging — Sunday night Menominee Way ceremony

Each week we focus on one trait and The Menominee Family gathers around a bonfire on Sunday nights for a special ceremony. The entire camp learns why each individual is honored and the actions of the honorees inspire camp throughout the summer.

Daily life — special events throughout the summer

The flow of any given week at camp includes these unique days and activities like Camper-Counselor Switch, 4th of July Fireworks, Toga Party, Doc's Run (CM's annual road race), Swim the Lake Club (the guys swim the length of Sand Lake!), Town Day including the Minocqua Ski Show, Picture Days, Trip Days, Camp Fires, Skit Nights, Menominee Rock Band Concert, Plays and Skits, Horse Race Night, CM Casino, Bingo, the Decade Club, Five Year Night, the Awards Banquet.

Independence, growth & leadership

Cabin responsibility — cabin clean-up and Dairy Queen reward

Mondays–Saturdays the boys are responsible for Cabin Clean-Up which is inspected by our Camp Nurse. If your cabin does well they get to raise the flag the next morning, and if they do amazing they will get Dairy Queen! Yes, the boys are even required to make their beds with 'hospital corners'! There are all kinds of ways to teach young men respect and responsibility.

Programs & camp life

Daily life — Lazy Day Sunday cabin cookouts

On Sundays the boys go with their cabin to their campsites to cook their Sunday evening meal over the campfire. During free activity periods during the day, the younger boys, especially, love to don their sweatpants and set off into the woods. They might have a campsite down OCR (Old Counselors Road), or they might prefer to locate on the lakefront.

First-timer anxiety — pre-camp connection programs

We host new camper parties before camp and are happy to put new campers in touch with each other before they come to camp. In addition, we have a Big Brother/Little Brother program for all of our new campers. Finally, please contact us at anytime and we can connect you with local families for the boys to meet before the summer.
