Clues to fit

Adventure — backpacking in Pisgah, rock climbing, ropes course over the lake

Camp Ton-A-Wandah offers beginning and advanced backpacking classes. Our advanced backpacking class gears up for a 3-day hike in Pisgah National Forest. Rock climbing is open to all ages and abilities — camp has a beginner wall, an intermediate wall, and an advanced wall. The High Ropes course is set beside the lake in the trees and ends by zipping across our 10-acre lake, with trained and certified staff walking each camper through 7 challenges.

TAW's setting — Blue Ridge Mountains, lake, and 365 acres

Nestled on the shores of its very own ten-acre lake in the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, Camp Ton-A-Wandah is a residential summer camp for girls. In historic Flat Rock, a few miles from Hendersonville, Ton-A-Wandah boasts 365 acres of mountainous terrain including streams, trails, and a cascading waterfall, where campers return to enjoy the refreshing summer climate year after year.

Traditions & shared moments

Cabins — traditional wooden, screened-in, on the lake

We have traditional wooden cabins here at Camp Ton-A-Wandah that are fully screened in. Living along the lake provides a nice cool that flows through camp and the cabins. Each houses around seven sets of bunk beds with two to three singular beds for the counselors. There are two toilets and sinks in each cabin. There are two shower houses for our campers with a separate shower house for our counselors.

Food — meal traditions and mealtimes

Meals are eaten family-style with their cabin during the first week, randomly during the second week, and with their teams during the third week. Meal times are filled with camp traditions, fun songs, and announcements, with the popular 'Hershey Bar' game played every morning after breakfast.

Independence, growth & leadership

No visitation during session — independence and growth

A camp experience provides an opportunity for campers to gain independence, self-reliance and self confidence, which are all essential to a young girl's development. Our experience has shown that visitation by parents and relatives during camp creates interruption of the camp program, and we appreciate support of this policy by parents. Visitation day is considered opening day of the camp session, at which time parents are encouraged to meet staff and enjoy the facility.

Programs & camp life

Facilities — dining hall over the waterfall, gym with stage, and more

The dining hall has the unique feature of sitting at eye level with the lake. The lake flows under the dining hall creating a pleasant cooling breeze and the continuous sound of the waterfall below. Additional facilities include an indoor gym with stage, arts and crafts building, a horse barn with three riding rings, high and low ropes courses, 40-foot rock climbing wall, professional all-weather tennis courts, indoor riflery range, playing fields, little recreation hall, infirmary and lodge.
