About Camp Waldemar

Activities — breadth of over 30 choices

First and Second term campers will register when they arrive for a customized schedule of 12 activities from the more than 30 offered. We encourage the girls to take a variety of classes in land sports and water sports, as well as theater and arts so they have a balanced schedule and are inspired to try new things. From horseback riding to journalism, trick-roping to culinary arts, soccer to golf, and synchronized swimming to ceramics, Waldemar teaches girls advancing curriculum during their four weeks of camp life.

Clues to fit

Former camper testimonial — formative years and lifelong friendships

Waldemar was an incredible gift in those formidable years of my life where I began camp as a young girl and left as a young woman; I am sincerely grateful for all the life lessons and friendships that I carry with me to this day.

Tribes — belonging and friendly competition

On the first night a girl attends Long Term, she draws for her camp tribe. Whether she draws Aztec, Comanche, or Tejas, she will continue to be a member of this tribe throughout her camping years and beyond. In everything she does — from her table manners and cleanliness in her cabin to how well she participates in her classes — she will experience the joy of helping her tribesmen by earning points.

Setting — the Texas Hill Country and the Guadalupe River

Nestled in the hills alongside the Guadalupe River, Waldemar is nothing short of magical. Our charming facilities, picturesque setting, and cherished traditions make Waldemar a home-away-from-home for both campers and staff. From the dew glistening on the athletic field just as the sun peaks over the ridge to the blankets of stars visible only in a Hill Country night, life at Waldemar is nothing short of idyllic.

Traditions & shared moments

Evening programs and camp traditions

At night, the girls participate in a variety of activities that include enjoying picnics and movies under the stars, climbing their sacred tribal hills, dancing with Camp Stewart boys, a Carnival, and participating in kampong skits and tribal competitions.

Independence, growth & leadership

Camper testimonial — independence, confidence, and friendship

Camp has taught me greater independence, responsibility, and self-confidence. I have also established great friendships and learned better teamwork skills. In these ways, my Camp Waldemar experience has helped shape me into who I am now.

Programs & camp life

Cuisine — family-style dining and dietary accommodations

From its earliest days, Waldemar has been known for its excellent camp cuisine. Meals are served family-style and are nutritionally balanced. It is traditional for Waldemar to have a gourmet chef who oversees the meal preparations. Menus may include chicken, shrimp, steak, fresh salads, vegetables, homemade breads and desserts. The goal is to expand the girls' palates while also teaching the finer points of dining. We provide plenty of alternatives to accommodate our campers and staff with restricted diets.

Daily schedule — activities, meals, and afternoon rest

Campers participate in six of their chosen activities each day with a set schedule. Three meals and two snacks are provided during the day. Just after lunch, campers spend quiet time in air-conditioned kampongs during the hottest part of the afternoon.
