Camp Watitoh's daily schedule provides a consistent, well-paced rhythm of camp life — from morning wake-up and meals through instructional and elective activity periods, rest hour, free swim, evening programs and bedtime. The structure gives campers ages 7–16 a full, balanced day with plenty of variety and time for friendships.
Community and belonging — everyone knows your name
Every summer our remarkable campers are living the dream of a place where everyone belongs and everyone knows each other's name. They are living the dream of lasting friendships and endless fun. They are living the dream of feeling included and secure with bunkmates, teammates, and campmates in a caring, coed community. They are living the dream of becoming more self-confident and reinventing themselves in new situations.
Hobby Elective hour — camper choice and specialization
Our Hobby Elective hour, when each camper chooses an activity he or she would like to specialize in for the week, includes our traditional sports, arts, waterfront, and adventure programs, alongside other innovative offerings like outdoor fitness, cooking, science, rocketry, Frisbee Golf, fashion design, synchronized swimming, and more!
Adventure program — Challenge by Choice, certified instructors
Watitoh Adventure follows the philosophy of 'Challenge by Choice,' where campers are made to feel that they will be successful regardless of how high they go or how quickly they complete an element. Encouraged by their friends, cabinmates, and counselors, Watitohans are constantly climbing to new heights, living their dream in a safe and secure environment led by certified instructors. Our adventure program includes: Archery, Canoeing, Low Ropes Course, High Rope Course / Climbing Wall, Zipline / Giant Swing, Nature, Overnight Camping, Hiking.
Program breadth — land sports, water, adventure, arts
Camp Watitoh offers a balanced program of land sports, water sports, adventure and creative and performing arts for boys and girls ages 7–16. Campers enjoy a mix of instruction, choice and all-camp activities, trying new things and developing their talents within a structured daily schedule, evening programs and signature special events in the Berkshires.
Camp history — founded 1937, family tradition, Berkshires
Since 1937, our warm, family-oriented, coed camp, nestled in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains on crystal-clear Center Lake, has provided a safe and supportive environment where each of our campers can live summer dreams and make them come true in their summer home.
The entire camp eats meals together, a great way of creating close community and family. Sitting with bunkmates and counselors, campers are served family-style by our camper waiters, our oldest boys — a special tradition at Watitoh. A meal does not go by without singing and cheering from the entire camp!
Our daughter has formed amazing friendships, a sense of independence and confidence and a connection to this camp that I don't think she would have found elsewhere. It's obvious, but we highly recommend Camp Watitoh.
Watitoh Waiter program — leadership tradition for oldest boys
The younger boys saw the waiters as the 'big brothers' of camp and aspired to someday be like them, and all campers formed a special bond with the waiter who was assigned to their table throughout the summer. The waiters found their names included in lyrics of repurposed camp songs and cheers proclaiming appreciation and gratitude. Waiters were the leaders of the boys' side of camp, leading the spirit and brotherhood on campus and setting the tone for other campers. It was clear the young men treated their role as an honor.
Setting — 90 acres on Center Lake in the Berkshires
Camp Watitoh is a traditional, family-oriented co-ed overnight summer camp set on 90 acres on crystal-clear Center Lake in Becket, Massachusetts, high in the Berkshire Mountains. Welcoming campers for full-season or 4-week sessions since 1937, Watitoh offers a wide variety of land sports, water sports, adventure and creative and performing arts that make a special summer for every camper in a safe, supportive and close-knit community.
Typical day — Center Lake waterfront, two periods daily
The centerpiece of Camp Watitoh is our Waterfront on Center Lake. Both girls camp and boys camp each spend at least two periods per day at the lake. During the morning period, the campers are grouped according to swimming ability and rotate daily between swimming, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing instruction, and, of course — our camp favorite — waterskiing! During the afternoon period is our free choice activity at the Lake. Every day, each camper gets to choose which water activities he or she wants to do.
