Clues to fit

Testimonial — French first-timer 'best experience of her life' (Héloïse's parents)

It was for us surely a challenging decision to let her go — it was the very first time she was away from us and going alone to Camp Wekeela. She enjoyed EVERYTHING, she met with so many friends and it took her weeks after to touch base and get back to her 'normal' line. She couldn't stop talking and telling us all the friends, counsellors, activities and fun she met and had. You were right when we talked in Spring: it was the greatest gift to make her go to Wekeela.

Testimonial — safe haven, international first-timer (parent)

My Child (12 years old) travelled for the first time to the US alone. The first class service — airport pickup and drop-off — had us feel very comfortable for future summers. The camp itself was amazing and I have never seen my child so happy. Thank you very much for your support Lori and Ephram.

Cabin life — wood construction, private bathrooms, electricity

Every Wekeela cabin is of sturdy wood construction, completely weather resistant and in top condition. All cabins have electricity, sinks, showers and toilets as well as night lights, which are left on through the evening. All Wekeela cabins are arranged in villages to group campers of the same gender and approximately the same age. The average cabin accommodates 10 to 12 campers with 3 to 4 staff members. All of our counselors live with and supervise their campers in the bunk.

Outdoor Adventure — 21-element ropes course, climbing wall, zip wire

We have an outstanding Outdoor Adventure program on campus with a 21 element high and low ropes adventure zone, rock wall, state-of-the-art climbing wall tower, zip wire, backpacking, trailblazing, campfire cooking, orienteering, rappelling, camping and nature. In addition we have off campus daily hikes and overnight trips for our campers.

Traditions & shared moments

Traditions — College Weekend and Color War

We have a College Weekend competition in the first session and a Color War in our second session. In both of these traditions, the campers are split up into teams — either colleges or one of our colors — and participate in a variety of activities that are athletic, silly, and creative.

Independence, growth & leadership

Family-run leadership team — all three Caflun sons on staff

Jonathan is the full-time Assistant Director. Jonathan has a degree in Hospitality Administration from Boston University and has spent every year of his life at Wekeela as a former camper and counselor. Matthew oversees most of Wekeela's marketing and design and now oversees Wekeela's summer program as Program Director. Jenna Caflun, who has a degree in Social Justice from the University of Iowa, serves as our Girl's Head Counselor. The Cafluns have three sons who have spent every one of their summers as campers and staff at Wekeela. The entire family is committed to making each summer better than the last.

LIT program — leadership, community service, adventure for 10th graders

We set out to create a groundbreaking Leadership in Training (LIT) program to bridge the gap between our campers' senior summer and their junior counselor year. It is uniquely hand-crafted for teens currently in 10th grade. It features four core elements: Leadership, Community Service, Adventure, and Wekeela. LITs will be the liaison between campers and staff, learn skills to help them work with children, and get first opportunity to apply to be a Junior Counselor. The highlight of the first session is an overnight community service trip to Puerto Rico.

Programs & camp life

Daily schedule — A-B-C-D rotation with six activities

Each day at Wekeela is a custom-made ticket to fun and adventure. Campers establish individual schedules based on our daily activity schedule. We have a four-day rotation (A-B-C-D schedule) and there are 6 different activities each day. There are three meals with the bunk as a whole and a rest hour. One of the six periods is an elective period where each of the program areas create a fun choice activity.
