Clues to fit

Braves & Pioneers — first-timers and youngest campers

Braves and Pioneers are breaking new ground. For some, Camp Winadu is their first time away from home, for others it's another exciting adventure. Either way, the Teepee House is a great place to start camp. From the bunks to the fields, we make sure campers are met with the perfect mix of structure and freedom that will make their camp experience unforgettable. Each camper in our two youngest groups is assigned an older camper as his big brother.

Parent testimonial — shy child finding belonging at Winadu

Last weekend, a group of boys got together. Believe it or not, [my son] is an extremely shy kid and watching him with this group is a real statement about the types of relationships you are all building at Winadu. We're very appreciative of all you've done for us and the boys.

Program breadth — sports plus arts and adventure

You get the instruction in terms of the sports with basketball or football or baseball, but he was also able to do rocket ship building, archery, and water sports, and that's the perfect blend you need for a great camp.

Ropes course, climbing wall, and outdoor adventure

Our ropes course and climbing wall allow campers to challenge themselves, set new goals, and work as a team. The climbing wall contains various levels from medium to hard and our ropes course includes various elements for 'team building' exercises and group challenges. Camp Winadu is located across the street from Pittsfield State Forest. This unique setting provides us with opportunities to guide campers on divisional nature hikes as part of their elective periods.

Traditions & shared moments

Big Brother / Little Brother tradition — detail from traditions page

From our youngest campers to our Seniors, at Winadu everyone knows each other. Each camper in our two youngest groups is assigned an older camper as his big brother. Big brothers mentor little brothers and establish a special friendship that begins in the spring and continues throughout camp.

Camp history — founded 1927, over 90 years of tradition

Winadu was founded in 1927 by camp pioneers, 'Doc' Winnick, Mac Nadelson and Irv Dube, hence the name 'Winadu.' Doc, Mac, and Irv ran the camp until it was purchased by Shelley and Arleen Weiner in 1974. Under their guidance, Winadu established itself as the premier, traditional boys sports camp in the nation. Over 90 Years of Traditional Camp History.

Independence, growth & leadership

Leadership team — husband and wife duos who are parents themselves

The Camp Winadu family is led by a unique leadership team comprised of husband and wife duos. Our leaders are parents, which gives them the unparalleled capacity to care for children as if they are their own.

Olympians and Seniors — leadership, community service, Montreal trip

Olympians and Seniors are an integral part of Camp Winadu. As our most seasoned campers, they choose their own path. Olympians and Seniors are expected to provide leadership and friendship to younger campers through the Big Brother program and hold the most coveted spots in our most sacred traditions like the Color War. Seniors have opportunity to participate in community service and a multi-day trip to Montreal with our sister camp.
