Camp friendships — living and playing together 24 hours a day

Girls will often say, "My best friends are my camp friends". A lot of how girls get to know each other in such deep ways is simply by living and playing together 24 hours a day. They find common ground and learn about their differences. Camp friends learn to accept each other as they are and share that journey of self-discovery. They quickly learn to see and celebrate the best in each other. Camp friends share deep history and have moments together that live in their hearts forever — just ask any camp alum!

DEIB — belonging and authentic self at FDL

FDL is a place where all feel included, empowered, and that they belong. Differences are embraced, appreciated, and celebrated. Providing a safe environment for self-discovery, exploration, and development while modeling a broad and diverse representation of identities. Fleur de Lis strives to build, honor, and retain a diverse camp community with respect to race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, sexuality, gender identity & expression, ability, age, family structure, culture, faith, political beliefs, and other identities.

Setting — Laurel Lake in the Monadnock Region, NH

Fleur de Lis Camp has been located in the beautiful Monadnock Region of New Hampshire, since our founding in 1929. Girls live simply and find their second home at camp surrounded by the beauty of our forests, fields, and, of course, the lake.

Traditions & shared moments

Dining experience — meals as community tradition

Each week campers are assigned to a table where they sit with a counselor in a multiage setting. Good manners, shared conversation, nutritional meals, and traditional camp songs make the FdL dining experience something that is important to our camp community and culture. Campers and staff will tell you it is an opportunity to get to know the many members of our camp in a true family setting. Our chef, Heidi, has fine-tuned the menu according to campers' tastes throughout the years. In addition to the main entree and side dishes, the Dining Hall offers a salad bar for lunch and dinner, a yogurt/oatmeal bar for breakfast, a pasta bar for lunch, as well as dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

FDL community — belonging across decades of tradition

Fleur de Lis campers swim on the same waterfront, walk the same paths, and are part of the same traditions that campers have known and loved for over 90 years. Campers see the names of those who have come before them on the cabin walls and know that when they return, they will see their own names as well. The experience of Fleur de Lis Camp is like a beautiful, richly colored tapestry. When a girl comes here for a summer, she becomes part of that tapestry forever.

Independence, growth & leadership

Camper blog — building confidence through camp activities

Camp is a magical place, where trying something new doesn't have downsides; it can only end well. And when one person succeeds in something, the whole community is there to cheer them on. It makes it easy to feel confident. Although it's daunting, when you get up on stage, you will have your friends waiting to cheer you on. And when you finally stand up in ski, hit the bullseye for the first time, or perfect that piece you've been working on in ceramics, it's that much better to know that the new thing you tried has paid off. — Edie Roth, FDL Camper 2012–current (2nd Year CT)

Parent testimonial — confidence, simplicity, acceptance

"I wanted my daughter to have an escape from the tech-trappings, academic and peer pressure. She loved the simplicity that FDL offers. She returned home more confident, relaxed and refreshed from time with new friends, in the beautiful surroundings of FDL. Camp provided her with opportunities to try activities that normally aren't available to her. FDL is like a throw-back to summers from days-gone-bye. The emphasis is on acceptance, just being who you are. FDL is a special place that my daughter looks forward to returning to each summer." — Parent of a Senior Camper

Programs & camp life

Singing together — daily community tradition at FDL

Singing together evokes a magical experience of deep connection between people and requires true listening and deep attention to others. It builds a bond among a group by creating something special together. Singing together links those who have come before us to those who will come after us as we bring to life again and again the music that has been a part of camp for 90 years. — Lady MJ Parry, FDL Director
