Setting — 300 acres in the Poconos on a private 100-acre lake
Independent Lake Camp is located in the northern tip of the Pocono Mountains near the City of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The camp is set on 300 pristine acres and includes a beautiful waterfront on the 100-acre, private, Independent Lake. The camp sits amidst the clean Pocono mountain air, at 2,500 feet elevation, with very limited humidity, beautiful sunny days and cool nights that are perfect for sleeping. The average summer daytime temperatures range from 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and nighttime temperatures can range from 55 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are days each session where holidays are celebrated (4th of July, Bastille Day), Evening Activity competitions extend throughout the day (ILC Olympics, Battle of the Bunks), or we continue some fun camp traditions (Love Letter Day, Twin Day)!
CIT/LIT program — leadership training for 16-17 year olds
ILC's 'Counselors and Leaders In Training' (CIT/LIT) Program is an exciting opportunity for ILC's oldest campers to have the fun camper experience while also building their resume by taking on responsibilities and contributing to the camp community. CITs gain responsibility, practical experience in an activity area, leadership and teaching skills, service hours, and pride in their contributions. In addition to these experiential benefits, tuition for the CIT program comes at a discounted rate.
Circus — ILC's flagship department, two flying trapezes, full indoor program
ILC Circus is comprised of three program areas — the circus building, flying trapezes, and gymnastics pavilion. All offering a full spectrum of skill levels, where no one is turned away from the fun. In addition to two lake-side flying trapezes we have a full indoor circus program. ILC Circus fosters invaluable experiences in a structured learning environment, but we never forget the crazy, zany fun that embodies circus. The circus is a place for kids to build their self-confidence and get to show off their accomplishments by producing a crowd-favorite show — amazing parents every summer!
No lockout from activities — staffing adjusts to demand
Will my camper get locked out of taking an activity? No! We adjust our staffing and schedule to accommodate increased interest in an activity so that everyone gets a chance to participate if they want.
