Brotherhood and belonging — returning camper's first-person account
Owego was different because of the love and friendship that I immediately felt when I came through the gates. No one questioned why I switched camps or made me feel that I did not belong. From that first day in Greeley, PA, I knew that this was where I belonged. All my bunkmates immediately became my brothers and still are to this day. It's given me a place where I know that I can be my true self at all times.
Camp motto and belonging — "Leave your Image at the Gate"
Camp Colors: Blue and White. Camp Motto: "Leave your Image at the Gate." When entering through the gates of Owego, we want every camper to know that camp is a special place where you can be your true self. Lake Owego Camp thrives on one major theme, brotherhood. The healthy relationships that the campers and counselors have are definitely contagious and spread to all aspects of camp.
Outdoor adventure — canoe trips and overnight campouts
Lake Owego boys are exposed to the excitement and energy of the outdoors no matter what age they are. From learning the basics of putting on a harness to a 100 mile canoe trip on the Delaware River, it all happens at camp. Through 6th grade, all campers will go on an overnight trip to one of our private campsites. All 7th graders will go on a half-day canoe trip on the Delaware River, and our older campers have a wide variety of adventure trips to choose from.
Setting — Pocono Mountains, private lake, EPA Energy Star winner
Every day at camp is a return to nature. You breathe in the fresh mountain air, smell the pines, hear the birds outside your cabin window. Dive into our natural lake, run on the fresh green fields, hike the trails that wander through towering pines. At night, look up at the incredible stars — you can see the Milky Way above your head, far from the lights and pollution of the cities. Lake Owego won the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) award for energy conservation — we're a proud Energy Star Award winner.
Traditions — Olympics, Frontier Week, SFA, and named camp places
Two big all-camp events: Olympics in the first session and Frontier Week in the second session. The camp is split into six teams — different countries for Olympics, different Native American Indian tribes for Frontier Week — both starting with an exciting, surprise 'breakout.' SFA (Supervised Free Activity), every night after dinner and on Thursday mornings, is a special time for campers to play freely. Fields and venues are named after the founding family: the Hughie Black Center, Robinson's Pool, Jacoby Field, Scotty's Stage.
We are proud to have an outstanding athletics program where campers are exposed to group instruction in all athletic areas. All campers have an opportunity to participate in their favorite sports on a daily basis and develop skills through one-on-one coaching. At Lake Owego, campers grow as individuals while learning the value of a team. Every camper makes the team. Anyone who wants to play in a game will play in a game.
Our bunks are spacious, comfortable, clean, and cheerful. Your bunk will quickly become your home away from home! Clean cabins with electricity, showers and toilets. New wooden beds with new comfortable mattresses. New, well-maintained bathroom and shower facilities updated each year. Knotty pine walls and large windows.
