About North Florida Fishing Camp

Program breadth — five kinds of water in one week

Across a week we try to fish every kind of water we have — the backwater creeks, the St. Johns River, the jetties, the beach and the bluewater offshore — and go looking for sharks along the way. Weather decides the order.

Setting — Jacksonville waters fished each week

Backwater creeks, skinny water and marsh grass — redfish tailing on the flood, trout on the edges. The St. Johns River: docks, pilings and bridge structure. The jetties: where the river meets the ocean, with bull reds along the channels. Offshore: out the inlet on the calm days, 5 to 10 miles — kingfish, cobia, barracuda, sharks — the biggest water of the week.

Mon–Thu 4 days, 7:00 AM–3:30/4:00 PM. Beach Marine. Two 6-hour and two 8-hour offshore charters. Campers keep their catch. $400 deposit holds the spot; balance due 30 days before camp. Capacity: 16 spots.

For parents & families

Safety — 4:1 ratio, USCG-licensed captains, background checks

Every boat is run by a working, Coast Guard licensed charter captain who fishes these waters year-round. About four campers to every counselor, so every kid is fishing, not waiting. Every staff member is Level 2 background-checked and registry-cleared, as Jacksonville University requires for anyone around campers (FL Statute 409.175).

Safety — life jackets and weather policy on every boat

Every boat carries the USCG-approved life jackets the Coast Guard requires, and we follow every Coast Guard life jacket rule. Lightning within 10 miles, wind or seas over the limit — we don't go, and you get a text.
