Lasting impact — goals around health, friendship, and learning

One of the great benefits of sleepaway camp is the opportunity to make friendships that last a lifetime. Every activity at Peconic Dunes strives to build caring relationships between every member of the camp community. Camp traditions also reinforce positive relationships and provide lasting memories. Healthy minds work best with healthy bodies! Peconic Dunes has partnered with Cornell University to create healthier NYS 4-H Camps. We continually work to create a healthy balance of activity, nutrition, and rest.

Setting — history and founding of camp on the dunes

Camp Dunes opened its cabin doors on June 30, 1924. Camp Dunes was located on over 26 acres on the Long Island Sound and included access to Great Pond Lake. "The maritime climate together with the unusual amount of sunshine peculiar to this locality make for an unusually healthful environment."
